When you get to that level competitiveness, most will see an ugly win is better than a pretty loss. You can’t expect to players to not do everything they can win because of your notion of what counts as self respect. When Wilt abused offensive goaltending they made a rule against it. When Charles Barkley would just back guys up for 20 seconds they made a 5 second back to basket rule. When Reggie Miller would kick people to get free throws they made rule against unnatural kicking motions. Teams not that long ago use to foul to stop fast breaks now that’s a whole ass technical. All they have to do is make a rule and enforce it, the problem lies entirely on the NBA and refs. You don’t necessarily have to penalize flopping just don’t call the foul.

For example, when SGA and Luka throw their heads back while driving they’re usually just being a bitch and the defender is in legal guarding position. In fact, they only pull that shit when the defender is playing well and actually beats them to the spot, so it’s turning what could be turnovers or tough plays that lose rhythm into free throws or at least a fresh possession.

People want to say basketball is a non-contact sport but it’s simply not true. There needs to be a better balance between finesse and physicality. Right now we’ve swung too far the other way and players will use that to their advantage to get the whistle.

Yes, I’ve watched the pistons over the last few years, my wife went to school at UMich, she makes me watch them even when shes on her phone the whole time. Both Cade and Brunson are the real deal in terms of talent. I personally feel that brunson isn’t getting anywhere near the calls he used to, partly because thats probably the narrative the NBA wants due to his history. Cade is getting a pretty good whistle actually. The pistons are a very physical team so the opposite teams have to play physical too, which is why I think you guys don’t see that cade actually is getting a good whistle for their play style. Here is another stat of the FTA/FGA ratio where Cade has 0.369 (ranked 43) ratio and brunson with 0.278 isnt even in the top 100. Not only does brunson take more FGA but also gets less FTA.

I’m absolutely positive refs will call more for guys that have been getting more calls in other games too (which confounds the issue). Flopping is when you exaggerate or make up contact and ‘flop’ your body/head to make it look worse than it is.

Foul baiting is when you yourself jump into the defender, baiting the foul.

Brown annoys me because he doesn’t flop, but he absolutely goes out of his way to initiate contact for whistles. It’s way better to watch than seeing the guys who draw contact and flop like cowards, but it’s still frustrating because he’s not initiating contact with the idea of scoring…he’s doing it specifically to draw a whistle. But at least he does it with physicality rather than fragility like the SGA/Brunson types.
