Chris Paul finally speaks on his departure from the Clippers š³
āCP3 weāre going to retire your jersey but your services are no longer neededā š
They just retired the jersey with him in it.
They say Chris Paul himself is still hanging in the rafters to this day
up there with rocky…
Mt. Rushmore of NBA mascot clips
When I say top four I mean all four lmao
When did Donald Sterling buy the team back?
Hmm I don’t like this comment
Yeah, he probably shoulda waited until after Black History Month to make that comment
Donald Sterlingās final wish granted.
Chris Paul rollin’ over in his grave
“Chris, theres good news and theres bad news. Good news or bad news first?” “Good…” “Good News! Your jersey is being retired, effective immediately.”
Lmao
It was always going to end with him complaining. That was his greatest skill.
That’s exactly what Daryl Morey said when he cut Melo from the Rockets lmao
Saying he got ‘sent home’ was such a funny way to announce it
“Sending home future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul in a bizarre severing ties move” is such an incredible phrase. No one is doing it like NBA scoops guys
imagine having a job that consists entirely of writing single sentences meant to convey mundane information, maybe a few times a week, and that’s what you come up with.
I wish he got 1 game in as a raptor after being sent there, a Chris Paul raptors jersey plus maybe they sell some tickets for him
Chris Paulblehead Night!!
Without supper
The clippers are such a weird organization
Fucking tell me about it
That graphic edit where you put blake griffin next to MLK, Gandhi, Einstein, etc and put it in the tshirt was the weirdest
What is the lore to your name
I’m making the team
RemindMe! 28 months

Ballmer stole that from Steve Jobs: “Jesus, Ghandi, me!”
https://streamable.com/kpklsk
Yeah. But thereās still so much more to this story that obviously aināt coming out in a Carmelo CP3 interview lmao
Ya I’ve decided to side with CP3 though so I don’t need any of that shit that threatens my bias
Replace weird with ātrash, joke, embarrassingā and then you are on to something. Havenāt won shit. Last owner was a racist scumbag. New owner is a cheating scumbag. Last time they came close to sniffing a championship they blew a 3-1 lead in the bubble. That was 6 years ago. Itās just too bad Silver isnāt going to punish the Clippers for one of the biggest and most egregious violations of sports CBA in all major leagues, all backed by verified evidence. Itās been months lol. Clippers will always be a joke both on and off the court and this CP3 situation tells it all. Also Ty Lue is a bitch who is involved with gambling and betting shit and who is riding high off LeBron carrying him to his first and only title. And he doesnāt want to sit down? Probably because he was given legit advice and has his head too far up his ass to accept it (a problem Cavs assistants had with him suggesting things and being ignored). So if he is ignoring his assistants he doesnāt give a fuck about Chris
It seemed like they were turning the page, ushering in a new era when they got Kawhi and PG.
Then that never worked out and now they are back on their bullshit lol
āYouāre a legend, please leave.ā
Literally the ending of Fallout 1
Fallout 1/Fallout 3: “You saved the Vault! But now you must leave”.
He probably piss off the whole coaching staffs to not even get a meeting with Ty Lue.
Kinda seems weak from Lue to not even meet.
Lue seems like a immature dude.
He was the one who stole money from the whole Cavs roster and bragged about it on podcasts right?
wait what?
Yea I was right
Thanks, I hadn’t heard that story. BTW Lue stole that shit from Doc Rivers.
Also, Confirmed by KG
It’s crazy that Lue has to have seen that story about the Celtics’/Doc, and his take away from it was a way to motivate players, but then also pocket their money. WTF, man?
I was told by u/Merpninja that none of the people in the clippers were toxic tho
Damn LeBron is really cheap lol
He seems more giddy about the 4k he stole from the team than the actual championship.
Kyrie called him out once he left the cavs must be true
Heās a bitch so itās not even surprising to hear that.
Absolutely. With CP3’s BBIQ I’m sure his advice wasn’t even wrong necessarily, so your fundamental beef with him is he’s lacking in social grace and pissing people off. But he’s your franchise GOAT and you’re his coach! Meet him and tell him what’s up face to face.
Ya i get the feeling he’s leaving stuff out lol. Like they told him several times to stop doing something and he kept doing it.Ā
Two things can be true. They shouldnāt have handled it the way they did and Chris Paul should have recognized he aināt got it like that anymore where he can be acting like he outranks the coach. Itās basically indisputable that Chris Paul has what you call a grating personality. If you watch watched him for 20 years, you know that he has a tendency to think heās the smartest person in the room. And honestly? Most of the time he probably is. But this is a league of egos and vibes. I do believe the hit pieces that his style got stale and started pissing people off. If Tom Brady with the Pats is chewing you out, you perk up and listen. If the losing QB of the Browns is putting you on blast, your first thought is this mofo cannot be serious. They built a team full of laid-back players and brought in somebody who is kind of notorious for being anything but that. It just didnāt work.
All of that said, anyone with a pulse could tell you that theyāre not gonna compete this year for anything real. They should have sucked it up and let him finish out the year. They look like clowns for how it all went down. But I aināt about to pretend that Chris Paul hasnāt pissed off people everywhere heās ever been other than maybe Oklahoma City. The dude wears on ya.
Weirdly, he seemed to be very well-liked in Golden State, even though he didnāt play all that well for them. Draymond has talked a lot about how much he came to like Chris after pretty much hating him for years.Ā
Heās very well liked in Golden State, OKC, Phoenix, Spurs..
I think the idea that āeveryone knows heās gratingā is ludicrous. He seems to be only grating to lazy players.
The only reason youād go get CP3 this season is his leadership. If you didnāt want it, there was no reason to sign him. But as always, the Clippers have shown themselves to be a loser organization.
He had some actual game in the tank left last season it wasnāt a given heās cashed until this season startedĀ
I mean if youāve followed his career he is known to be polarizing. Ppl on this sub always pointed out the āannoyingā stuff heād do on the court. At the same time heās been an incredible mentor and teammate according to like 95% of his teammates. Heās intense.
Which is hilarious because I donāt hear so much intensity in the podcast episode, I bet it just flips a switch when he is talking basketball
It is possible to be a good leader but not a good leader for the group you’re leading at the moment.
He was pretty well liked in Phoenix too, minus Ayton.
So no one who mattered had an issue then.
Exactly. Portland got some of the Ayton experience and Lakers fans will see it and be done with it soon enough haha.
Many of us are fed up with Ayton. He’ll have the odd monster 20-15 type of game where his fans will come out and ask for an apology, but his lack of motor really pisses a lot of us off. JJ has benched him down the stretch of games the last month or so when he’s having a bad game, so at least the staff is seeing how detrimental he can be when he’s not locked in
That LeBron meme of staring Ayton down is from just like two months ago right?
Ehh he’s what we pay for. It’s disappointing but we got a great deal.
guessing he toned it down there. you’re going to come in and tell 4 time champs how it needs to be?
4 time champs probably have better habits than the Clippers tbf
Yeah, Id imagine whatever ship Kerr sailed, sailed much tighter and disciplined than whatever Lue had going on.
Steve Kerr does not run a loose ship except for letting a vet sucker punch a young player and doing nothing about it
I think he probably lets Steph do whatever the hell he wants too.. deservedly so.
only after kd called out Steph!!!
or they’re like-minded about winning. All the teams that liked him had success
he didnāt stay long enough for the honeymoon to end.
half that season we were still pinching ourselves to make sure it was real
I think Chris Paul is the prototypical feast-or-famine kind of teammate that makes winning great and losing suck.
A lot more feasting through his career, he is one of the winningest players of all time
Totally. Just meant that heās one of those guys that everyone has played with: a hyper-motivated athlete who never stops wanting that from everyone else.
100% and even the winning is good only for long
I thought he was perfect in San Antonio.
They share the same hobby of hitting dudes in the dick, so that at least makes a little sense.
Itās not like they didnāt know who CP3 was tho. Heās literally a franchise great lol. This is a way worse look on the Clips than him. By orders of magnitude. I also find it funny how people on here will go to bat for Kuminga but willingly throw CP3 under the bus. You canāt have it both ways fam. You are either pro players or you arenāt. One of these dudes is a legend 1st ballot HoFer and the other is some pine riding bum who hasnāt done shit. The double standard is cray cray.
They talked prior to him joining and how his role would be different. You shouldnāt be having multiple team meetings due to a guy on a minimum contract.
It doesnāt matter if heās on a minimum contract. Heās the franchise goat, and one of the best minds in the game. You think the Cavs wouldāve done this to LeBron? Or if the Bulls had MJ again instead of him playing with the Wizards?
You are naming champions within a franchise lol. Who were still great players. Cp3 isnāt good anymore, their best player is a two time finals mvp. Cp3 doesnāt need to be causing multiple team meetings when heās not even contributing on the floor. Would LeBron or MJ ever be on a minimum with bulls or Cavs? lolĀ
Yeah which would be true except for the fact he isnt “just a guy”
I donāt think I said anything about Kuminga.
I didnāt say you did!
Fair!
Speaking from a biased okc perspective… yes it can be true that cp3 has a large personality that could be uncomfortable for a locker room but that’s where your organization should have had a more macro long term view when you sign or trade for players… its either they signed cp3 for a farewell tour or not, there shouldnt have been that level of indecisiveness at the management level… and no matter what the explanation is, the management shouldve known how disrespectful it wouldve been to a franchise legend..
As an aside, sam presti even publically apologised for a much less significant gordon hayward trade… thats the kind of accountability that makes me proud to be an okc fan
That seems logical mostly except for the fact that old CP3 still has credibility when talking to other players regardless of if he’s currently a good player. 60 y/o Tom Brady’s football opinions would still have credibility.
But yeah, he had to have been too much in the locker room for them to willingly take the PR hit on this.
How is giving advice acting like you outrank a coach? Thatās everyone on a team
Iāve always hated Chris Paul since he nut punched Julius Hodge heās just a smug bum
We were riding for some Jules from Harlem back in the day. CP3 earned forever haters that day
I feel like the clips one more bad season away from CP3 being able to just ask for the head coaching job himself and fire his hatersĀ
God damnit I canāt even read r/nba without the Browns catching strays
We really throwing “QB of the Browns” as a comparison to Paul? Mans never won a ring but to throw him in with the Browns is certainly something
Man CP3 laughing it off but he def hurt by that. Did him so wrong. Fuck the clippers
Sounded like he was trying not to break down at the beginning of the video
His voice was a little shakey and he put his head down looked like he was trying to not cry
Cp3 always has a shaky voice, check any interview
Not like this, though. This sounds like the wavering you get when you have a lump in your throat. You can really hear it when he says “Kawhi”
Thereās a noise gate on the mic that makes the audio cut in and out. Super noticable when he has the mic away from his mouth.
Not saying heās not hurt by this though but I think itās a mic issue thatās making his voice sound like that.
Obligatory goated GIF
Even if CP3 was cooked this season, he still one of greatest basketball minds ever
Also it’s not like the clippers were winning shit by benching him anyways.
The league is lucky the wemby cp3 connection happen a few yrs later in CP3’S Career
Clippers got that loser mentality
Something about this just doesnāt add up to me
Well, Clippers organization knew what they were getting when they resigned Chris Paul. CP3 was at his prime when he first signed with Clippers. It’s like getting back with your ex even though you know they haven’t changed at all.
Except he did change… he is older.
I mean its really not that hard to piece together. CP while a legend is known to be very grating even to his own teammates and staff. In his prime it was overlooked and even praised, but since he was no longer in his prime people, both teammates and coaching staff, didn’t respond to it as well especially when the team was playing poorly. So they told him to go. Just a clash of egos all around, and unfortunately for CP he just didn’t have any leverage with the org that would have protected him from getting cut
well CP is obviously going to sugarcoat what happened.
Can you imagine what a pain in the ass he was that clippers literally sent him home
Exactly. Look at all the hate against the franchise this is generating. They sent him home KNOWING this was coming. I love CP3 but shit mustāve been really bad for them to send him packing expecting this backlash.
I mean by this logic Luka must really suck since the Mavs traded him away knowing that they were going to get backlash for it
lol this means nothing, clippers donāt give a shit about backlash they knowingly bypassed cap and salary rules in front of the entire nba.
I think cp3 is basically a coach and probably more respected than Ty lue, even with the rockets, okc and suns he was past his prime but got the most out of all of those teams. Ty lue didnāt want someone in the building actively taking his job. Chris Paul will be an amazing coach when he wants to be, would you listen to cp3 or Lue?
Lol clippers a poverty franchise, their only history is being under the hands of that pos sterling.
Joke ass franchise and always will be with stupid shit like this
It could also be nothing. Maybe Kawhi has dirt on BalmerĀ
Imagine your bosses in basketball being two PGās you would cook easily in their prime.
I mean, good players rarely make good execs lol
I would hope every PG on an NBA roster would cook their coach. It would be a problem if they couldnāt
Many here really riding the argument that CP’s departure coincides with the Clippers’ turnaround so he is the cause of the problem. But then Clippers trade away Harden who was playing at a high level and longest-tenured Zubac after that successful turnaround, which to me suggests that there is a deeper internal problem within the organization on what direction they really want the team to take and that is more likely to explain the swings in their performance.
They thought they cooked this offseason and made a contender, and it became clear that even at their best, they were nowhere near that. So when Harden long term convos came up, they were non committal and Harden asked to go to a better situation.
Then after they traded him with a new approach of going young (instead of having like an ungodly amount of cap space in 2027), the Pacers ramped up their pursuit of Zu and offered an insanely good offer. They legitimately have a shot at a 5-9 pick in a super loaded drafted, and have a far away pick after Siakam + Zuās contracts end.
Itās less of an internal problem and more of a reasonable change of plans as things evolved.
Harden has nothing to do with this. He wanted to get paid, the org said they canāt do the deal he wants, so they split amicably. Harden literally said as much when asked about it. He said absolutely no hard feelings and both sides went about it the right way.
I love pretending this dude wasnāt one of the douchiest players on the court in the last 20 years just like the rest of you fellow Redditors that think he got done dirty for some reason.
I also donāt believe two things can ever be true at the same time
Chris Paul is still an amazing basketball mind, after his prime he made the rockets, okc and the suns way overachievers. Youāre an idiot if you wouldnāt want him as a player/coach heāll be an amazing coach if he wants to be, a lot better than Ty Lue
That’s weak from Lue, can’t even meet with a player before sending him away? That sucks
In these kinds of situations, I always expect the parties involved to be completely unbiased in re-telling how things went down. Iām glad I more know the complete truth of what happened. /s
CP voice trembling with emotion š„ŗ
Gunned down beyond his prime. I’m gonna miss him when he dies.
Lue sounds like an embarrassing head coach. That 2016 ring really backpacking him
He took some really weak rosters to the playoffs as clippers HC. Hard to accomplish much when you got two supermax/max players always injured.
CP3 is an asshole never been disputed but treating your only franchise player like that is truly nasty work.
Damn, did him dirty. Miss you, CP3.
Wish he had just retired at the end of the year with the Spurs. I really enjoyed his season in San Antonio. He was healthy, there was no real pressure and I loved having my favorite player finally on my favorite team.
What he did with okc and the suns past his prime is why everyone should try and hire him as a coach tomorrow. Dude will get the most out of everyone and every player will listen to him heās a legend
This is the same energy as the dude after a breakup whoās like āmy ex was crazyā and somehow he did nothing wrong. Like yeah, maybe he was treated unfairly ā but if you canāt name a single thing you couldāve done better, it starts sounding like ego-protection or trying to āwinā the narrative. Accountability isnāt self-blame, itās just owning your part.
isnāt that what he was attempting to do by requesting a meeting with Ty Lue?
“So you said you were gonna get me a meeting with T Lue, Right?
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t do that. Go Home.”
lmfaoooo
If Paul didnāt speak on it, Iād give him the benefit of the doubt about the Clippers drama.
But now that heās speaking on it, I think, yeah he knew what he was doing was pissing people off and he dared them to kick him.
He didnt deserve that but if karma real, he didnt deserve a fairy tail ending either
Bet Harden had a big role in giving CP3 the boot.
100%. It was absurd for him to even join any team with Harden on it.
So he didnāt reveal anything substantial about why he got axed, but everyone in here is acting like he was so wronged. Lmao of course heās going to make himself out to be the victim. Itās only his side, why wouldnāt he paint himself in the best light?
Canāt believe so many people are going to bat for this asshole.
Lawrence Frank a stand up G, at least he had that conversation face to face. Shit runs its course. The more CP talks, itās obvious that Ty Lue felt threatened with CPs influence. Damn shame
Sounds like a two-sided story situation tbh. doubt we get the other side though
KD’s Burner: “Chris Paul doesn’t know sh*t.”
I still remember when CP3 punched future Nuggets draft pick Julius Hodge in the nards
As a Dubs fan who watched the Warriors-Clips rivalry back in the day I always hated CP3 on principle, but it was always a hate-respect thing because the guy was a baller and clutch as fuck he was terrifying in the 4th
People forget when Curry/Klay/Dray were young, Paulās Clips knocked us out of the playoffs
He did get caught on camera punching guys in the balls multiple times, so yknow safe to say CP3 is a complicated guy
I think what’s being left out is what did Cp3 tell the players to do?
Cp3 is the type of the player that will tell players to ignore what the coaches are saying and follow what he’s saying. And players will listen.
If he’s teaching a player how to look for an open man or use a pnr to their advantage, ways to not turnover the ball, etc I feel like most staff won’t have a problem with that. But, if he was telling players, “no don’t run that play, run this instead”.
That’s undermining the staff instead of working with them, creating mixed messages and now players are wondering “do I listen to my vet or my coach?” and that is a locker room problem.
Whether it was purposeful or not, staff likely told him to stop or change. He didn’t and he continued. Cp3 wanted to talk to Lu, but if Cp3 won’t listen to assistant coaches then what’s the point?
It’s like at your job if your boss tells you to do something, your colleague who’s been there for 20 years comes over and says, “no do it this instead”. The boss is going to feel some kind of way, even if the boss is wrong, egos come into play and it’s going to.be an uncomfortable environment
Trash organization to do that to their possible franchise goat. They deserve all their failure
Such a cowardly way of sending him home. The greatest Clipper of all time and you can’t even talk to him T Lue? No matter how bad it got, that’s just sad.
This doesn’t explain anything.
So either they literally told him nothing or this clip is useless.
And that’s why the Clippers are the Clippers.
Clippers disrespecting their franchise GOAT on the way out the door is the most Clippers thing of all time
Ok Clips are wack but heās also not being completely truthful
Chris Paul really didnāt know how bad it got also shows some delusion . Not saying he was wrong but come on.
This CP3 farewell tour felt like when Magic came back the 95-96 season
At least he’s in good spirits about it. I hate that this is how his career ends.
The last year CP was a nightmare
Everybody talking about the org & coaching staff but going all the way back to when it was announced he was going back to the Clippers, I was surprised he was willing to play with Harden again.
Iām sure those 2 reuniting werenāt great for the locker room either.
Clips went 15-3 after getting rid of CP3 lmao fuck boi
Problem with CP is he didnāt know when to shut up.
Think we’ll only get the full story when other players start talking about it. It must have been pretty bad if Ty Lue didn’t even want to talk to him when Frank gave him the news. Lue is well liked
this got teague pod kinda vibes
Everyone’s the hero in their own story. It’s no coincidence that the Clippers got way better when they let CP3 go.
Trueā¦Thats why you gotta hear both sides of the story AND the stories rarely ever mirror each other
Itās crazy I mean clearly clippers coaching staff was threatened by him. He was only with the rockets for a couple of years but Iād love to bring him back as a coach, dude should be hired tomorrow on someoneās staff. Chris Paul will be the next best coach in the league if he wants to be
Why would any star want to play for the clippers Blake and CP3 done dirty
“We don’t want you giving players advice”
T.Lue don’t want to meet with you.
Yeah, you’re the problem bro.
āSorry I couldnāt do that. Go home.ā
Please get this man whatever tv deal he wants.
I know nothing about the clippers but it just seems like it would be so easy to pay him that last year and lean into it. If itās all about money they could have absolutely profited off it. Dumb shit.
Mavs Fan For Life questions my existenceā¦..fuck
Now that’s a organization that doesn’t want to win
Clippers did him dirty but Paul never struck me as a good leader.
None of his teammates seemed to really enjoy his company or it inevitably soured. It reminds me of that Movie Draft Day when Costner asked the #1 prospect why none of his teammates attended his birthday party and then chose not to draft him.
Jersey retirement ceremony going to be funny . Cp not going to show up for it . Hahaha. Or maybe they’ll invite him and cancel it right before …
They told him they were resigning him, not re-signing him.
Bring back getting your jersey retired for actually contributing to winning championships
Deserved better
definitely think Adam Silver shouldāve at least done something for him at the ASG given that it was in LA. unfortunate way to end but what a career
Iām going to guess Harden did not want him around.
CP3 still follows Harden on Twitter, doubt he wouldāve done that if he was the cause; most likely beef with Ty Lue and Van Gundy since CP3 been actively undermining their decisions (Van Gundy is their defensive assistant coach).
Pelicans or OKC should give him a retirement ceremony this season
Buddy should have played with the Raptors and had a farewell tour.Ā
Chad why the most NBA players today remind me of Puff Daddy
Look the team was scuffling at that time, they needed the roster spot. If they had played better he would have stayed.
Heās gonna coach a team to a chip before the clippers isnāt he ?Ā
Maybe if he put up decent stats and led by example people would care to listen to him.
Brother, you is an asshole
Just unlucky for CP, Frank and Lue knows some stuff Ballmer don’t want to get leaked..
If you don’t want that leadership from CP3, should’ve informed him before signing him?
Melo lookin like black salt bae
Bro did not deserve that departure smh
Shouldāve played out the year with the Raps like his boy kawhi !!!
