That’s not what Ayn Rand or Libertarianism advocates for. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an absolutely stupid ideology that requires you to live in a fantasy reality, but it’s not about enriching yourself at the expense of others. It’s instead the idea that everybody should focus on RATIONAL self-interest. The crux here is that rational isn’t relative. There is no your rationale and my rationale. There is the “real” rationale that is defined by sound logic. And sound logic doesn’t just mean, ‘it is logical to me’. It means supported by sound logical argument.
Again, don’t get me wrong, you’d have to be a fool to be a libertarian. But the real problem is the lack of moral development of people in general. Too many people who are stuck in the conventional moral stage where they allow perceived authority figures to dictate right and wrong instead of using the logic that Ayn Rand or Immanuel Kant or Jeremy Bentham or Aristotle would have suggested leads to truth.
If you want a figure to blame for the current state of the world blame Milton Friedman and the sycophants who adopted his works and made them mainstream. Ayn Rand is misrepresented. Milton Friedman invented the idea that the only thing that matters are shareholders. Not stakeholders, ONLY shareholders. He pioneered the philosophy that when you work for a business, as any level employee, that your responsibility is to abandon your personal morality and be an agent beholden to the shareholders of the company. Explicitly, your personal morals have no business in business. Compared to the hubris of Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand was an amateur.

I feel stupid now, I just thought it was weird how Wemby was pissed at Chet for a media narrative but combine that with these stats and yeah, I get how that might get under his skin as a highly competitive player.
He’s somewhere on the “basketball psychopath” scale between MJ/Kobe and Lebron. And this year, he’s inching a little bit closer to the MJ/Kobe side of that scale. I don’t think he ever reaches their level of madness, though.

There is a real earnestness to both Wemby and Ant (expressed totally differently) that I really enjoy. Both their competitiveness feels like a love of the game and loving competition for the sake of competing.
Almost like the highest form of respect they could give this thing they love is the respect of actual effort and genuine trying. As a tryhard who tried really hard at the things i loved (like history and literature and stuff) the earnest, trying really hard at a thing i genuinely love/enjoy really speaks to me.
This is why youth is important changing of the guard properly. I hope Wemby is ready to be the face of the league and what that comes with both good and bad

Wemby set an excellent tone right out of the gate and the players played hard start to finish. This short multi-game format really delivered. Players didn’t have to worry about conserving energy, didn’t have time to coast, and competed with real basketball rather than tons of easy jumpers. I hope they keep this round robin format going forward, because this year’s game was excellent.
And maybe bring Wemby back each year, just in case.

2010 was the last all-star game I saw with defense. When Wade fouled Kobe in 2012 AS game, they called him dirty instead of him being “competitive”. Everybody was afraid of being a “try hard” after that.
