Bingo, I used to love the ASW but I’ve not been bothered for years now. It is a stale formula that doesn’t excite anybody. Or, as the cynic in me sees it, it’s a blatant money grab that doesn’t add anything to the game.

This weekend is the first weekend I’m not watching any all star activities. I feel so free and don’t regret it at all. I was thinking of everything I got done this weekend that I couldn’t have if I wasted my time on the all star events

Last years nhl all star games were crazy. The four nations cup where you had players repping four countries was so intense and dramatic
The wnba had that Olympic team Vs everyone else game. That was a legit basketball team after a certain point. I get that the nba can’t really do that. But it is possible to have a good all star game

These guys are ripped and are taking shots from the same spots they do today, it’s just not 3 points.
At this point just cancel All Star weekend. The players don’t want to be there and that makes the fans not want to watch it.

I didn’t realize until now that it’s not east vs west
NBA needs to try to cash in on the popularity of the NHL’s four nations tournament last year. But they failed to realize that a team “world” isn’t a real replacement for a pseudo international mini tournament.
Too complicated to try to make it nations based. There aren’t enough all stars from one nation outside of US to make a 5 man roster let alone 7 or 8 man roster.
Which is why a four nations rip off was never going to work. Silver is trying anyways.

Wasn’t the 4 Nations tournament sort of a warm-up for this year’s Winter Olympics? It was cool for an occasional event instead. Not sure if it would have staying power as a yearly event for the NBA.

For me, the Olympics have replaced the all-star game. That’s where I see the best players on one team, and players really care about the results. That’s team USA. Not this silliness.

The current batch of players killed the game that I love, the game that I grew up watching.
One way to save the ASW it letting it revolve around basketball and not around famous people who are famous for anything but basketball. The B in NBA should be the core of its ASW.
East West was great and most logical since you have league already divided on East and West.
