All-Star Saturday Night
Skills challenge winner: Team Knicks
3 point contest winner: Damian Lillard
Dunk contest winner: Keshad Johnson
Why did it start and end so early?
winter olympics
Olympics schedule probably forced the early window and they did not want to compete for viewers
There’s currently some dudes playing ice cornhole with rocks on my screen
It would be understandable for live coverage (I.e Beijing 2022 or Nagano 1998)…but like, doing this just to show replays/highlights?
Olympics coverage pulls far bigger ratings than what All-Star Saturday Night would have gotten if it was held in primetime.
Olympic events which have already taken place & it’s replays essentially LMAO like the NBA is cooked for this to be happening
Makes sense but olympics aint even live rn
Yes, cause in Italy, all of the events start at 2AM (local time).
But if they started at 8est, it would be done around midnight no?
The Olympics day schedule starts at 3AM EST (9AM CET) and ends at 5PM EST (11PM CET), so if they cover it at 8PM EST (2AM CET) it’s a rerun.
Had to wrap it up for Winter Olympics coverage.
Wasn’t good planning for the league to give NBC the All Star Weekend during a Winter Olympic year.
That’s all I was trying to say.
Someone in the league office should have had the foresight to see the conflict coming and negotiate with NBC to begin airing their All Star Weekend coverage NEXT year.
You obviously don’t want to put this on Amazon or some other paywall. But this should have been on NBA TV (ESPN) frfr.
Adam Silver is scared of any completion, dude is a coward who doesn’t trust his product against the likes of other sports and of course Valentine’s Day
NBC told Adam silver get ya little weekend activities over with EARLY lmao
NBC: “You too Roger Good-…………….oh sorry nevermind sir, please have your games go past midnight!!”
What shouldn’t they
Atrocities, activities same thing.
3 point contest really should be the final act of the night rather than the dunk contest.
It would reflect the current state of the league better too (inflated scoring era, teams taking tons of 3s, the arguably the best rookie in the league atm is a 3 point shooter, etc.) more-so than the dunk contest which feels very much like a relic of the mid 2000s where the best players tended to be explosive high flying wings (LeBron, Kobe, Carter, Wade, McGrady, etc.). Mid-2000s also happened to be the peak of the dunk contest outside of the brief renaissance in 2016.
I Agree… Dunk contest not gonna be the same like 2016 year
Yeah. If it were a decade ago, sure, but three point shooting is more integral nowadays.
This post lays it out beautifully, yeah. 3pt as the closer shoulda started like 10 years ago really, based on that (sound) reasoning you laid out. And if the Dunk Contest is an earlier event (or even the earliest one) then swapping in pro dunkers and/or G-leaguers (or both, whatever) doesn’t sound so bad, because now it’s not THE main event. It’s the fun sideshow it probably should be going forward. And who knows, maybe you end up with a real hotshot dunker in the league actually WANTING to go in on that once it’s established, and then there’s some juice again.
Shooting Stars is honestly fine too, so long as you get rid of the “celebrity passer” bit. Hell, the 2nd most fun thing at this event was watching Corey Maggette and Allan Houston go off.
I said it once, i’ll say it again. Replace the dunk contest with an oiled up wrestling match, royal rumble style. We could do weight classes, one for guards, wings, and bigs. Last man in the ring gets a $5m cash prize and increased escalators in their next contract.
I promise you the ratings would be booming and the players would try their ass off
The Sean Combs NBA All Star Wrestling Classic
Finally an event appropriate for Druski
… let him cook
Guerschon Yabusele oiled up would be doing numbers and taking the crown from Prime Alexis Texas
Can’t be doing this
Will their be a locker room camera available on Onlyfans
The Malice in the Palace Brawl 4 All Challenge
Devin Booker and Carter Bryant were close
Both choked it as the last performers
My favorite part was the shooting stars when the uncs showed they still got it
Yeah I don’t get people saying this was the worst All Star Saturday ever. 3 point contest was a banger and the shooting stars was fun but probably should have gone on first.
In the original lineup for Saturday night many many years ago, Shooting Stars would have been the first event, then Skills Challenge, then 3 point contest, then dunk contest.
Every year they say that, wasn’t great but wouldn’t say its the worst,
They said these uncs wouldn’t be able to play in today’s league
Lol. “The league has way better talent nowadays” people in shambles
Allan houston would be a monster in today’s league. He was shooting 40% from 3 on over 5 attempts per game back when they didn’t even value the 3 pointer. Look how beautiful his shot still is in his mid 50s. Maggette and rip hamilton were money from mid range. You don’t think they could average 25-30 points if they were trained at a young age to move back a few feet and turn a lot of those long 2s into 3s? Idk what ron harper was doing though that wasn’t a good look 🤣
Maggette went nuclear! Still hate him for ending Oden’s career tho
Yeah watching Allan Houston shoot was quite fun
3 point contest was, as it has been for a decade, the highlight of the night. They refuse to move it to being the main event out of tradition, but people’s takeaways of All Star Saturday Night would be so much better if they did.
I thought the Shooting Stars challenge was pretty good. Would be nice if the other teams had stars too like Team Knicks and the 3 point contest, but I thought they played well. Don’t know why it got swapped to go on second when this (or the Skills Challenge) always goes on first given it’s inherently a slower event.
I liked Johnson’s energy and Carter Bryant was nice before unfortunately whiffing his last dunk. But this was a list of nobody contestants and it felt that way. Like Dame said, the stars gotta compete.
At this point, they can damn near expand the 3 point contest.
Have 1 for “Legends”.
Have 1 for current stars.
Have 1 for rookies/rising stars.
The smack-talk for bragging rights among the Legends would be gold. GP and Reggie for instance. Lol
Lillard is goated at 3 point contests at this point
We are all losers today in more than one way
true we’re posting on r/nba on V day
Speak for yourself, won my 3pt contest bet with Dame im very pleased with tonight 😅
dunk contest wasn’t that bad for me?
The only truly garbage contestant was Hayes.
coming in i thought he had the advantage but he sold. glad he lost tbh
Could have been worse. The kids had some spirit at least
Carter Bryant managed to screw up even though he has a perfect 50 dunk
Worst dunk contest in recent memory.
I grew up with Dominique vs Jordan.
This is embarrassing.
damn unc
How was it watching Bob Cousy and Bob Pettit play live?
He was in the room with Neismith when he drew up the rules
Hell no bro, I watched every minute of 2 separate chris anderson dunk contests. At least this was short and sweet. Could have been way worse.
I didn’t watch but to say that was the “worst dunk contest in recent memory” really means that must have sucked balls
Or VC, or J-Rich vs Mase, or Blake/Dwight/Nate Rob/Greald Green, or Lavine vs Gordon…
The dunks weren’t bad, but they weren’t anything special.
Hot take: I was decently entertained. Y’all are just pessimists.
U know J-Richs son will hear about this every xmas dinner forever
Good dunker, but not like his father
I honestly hope he’s checked for a concussion
I need a cigarette. I don’t smoke.
I don’t even know if the dunk contests are just bad now, or if the dunks just don’t impress me anymore because it”s basically impossible to really create new stuff.
Like it feels worse then the Mac McClung ones, but it”s not like I’ve enjoyed any dunk contest since Lavine/Gordon, I’m not even bothering to watch them live nowadays
Realistically, I think we’ve just physically seen all the dunks nba players could pull off without injury risk lol we’ve reached the natural conclusion of dunking for people who don’t train every day for dunks
Dunks are more impressive when the players are short like Mac McClung.
kon winning 3pt next year beware
I personally thought Knueppel might do bad due to nerves, but he exceeded my expectations
replace all this shit with a 1v1 or 3v3 tournament
i don’t care if no nba players are in it, im sure g league guys would do it for prize plus name for themselves. would be way more entertaining than this dunk contest or the skills challenge
NBC delivered a super mid Saturday event. Why did they want it if they just wanted to sandwich it between Olympics coverage. As usual they need to revamp the skill contest. Maybe bring a theme for the dunk contest since it’s kind of always the same.
It was whack lol
Just cancel the entire weekend, no one wants this anymore
Entire weekend is crazy. The 3-point contest is still easily the best event so I doubt they’d scrap that, but I do agree about the rest of the weekend needing to go
It is incredibly frustrating and honestly pathetic that the NBA Players absolutely do not care one bit at all about upholding NBA All Star Weekend to a decent standard. Genuinely. If there’s no money or some sort of playoff related incentive thrown at them, they show zero interest in making the NBA a decent product for the fans and their respective cities. It’s even more frustrating/annoying when you look at the NFL or MLB and see how much the players care about maintaining traditions throughout their seasons and making their respective All Star Weekends a fun time, not only for themselves but their fans as well.
When you look at NFL???? Did you just say NFL?!? They’re really “maintaining traditions”!! They don’t even PLAY TACKLE FOOTBALL ANYMORE at the “PRO BOWL”!!!! They play two hand touch and fucking DODGEBALL and they’re not in Hawaii at all lmao. Some of you are so quick to bash the NBA for internet points that you don’t even make rational points lmao.
I actually think the NBA All Star events, for all its faults (and there are plenty), is better than the NFL. The NFL is the best American sport in my opinion but they easily have the worst All-Star events.
MLB and NHL beat both on the All-Star front, even though in all honesty I don’t care about All-Star-related stuff since I was a kid.
The NFL has the best schedule the games mean more in the regular season and Sundays in fall/winter are like Church. I still think the NBA is the best sport and most exciting especially playoffs. That being said yeah the NFL has the worse all star game
The only thing the stars like to do is the 3 pt contest.
this is by far the worst marketing i’ve ever seen for all star saturday. It’s always been known as all star “saturday night” , so I turn my tv on at 8pm hoping to catch the events and my screen is showing keshad johnson vs brandon carter going at it in the final rd of the dunk contest. just terrible. and the viewership numbers are gonna be complete shit.
The should pair each NBA dunk contest contestant with a professional dunker and have them compete as a team.
A few comments about tonight:
Every year, the Saturday nights event start at 7pm. This year, it started at 5pm, which is nonsense. Many people, include in this sub, got screwed over because of this, and tuned in late.
Usually the 3-point shootout is the second to last event. This year, it was the first event, which is different but fine. As in recent years, it was spectacular, Lillard and Booker put on an absolute show. 10⁄10.
They removed the Skills Challenge after f’ing up the original format (which worked) by changing the format every single year, which it made hard to understand every year. They need to bring this back, and return to the original format back in the 2000s and 2010s. 0/10.
I am very glad that they brought back the Shooting Stars challenge, after removing it for many years. It was part of the original Saturday night events lineup. Even though they adjusted the format (old format was better), it was still entertaining to watch. 8⁄10.
The dunk contest. Where to begin? Mac McClung really saved this dunk contest. His absence is felt. Every year we hope it will be a good one, and every year (with no McClung) it disappoints. The highflying stars of today don’t want to participate, to their own shame. 0/10.
The league f’ed up the dunk contest scoring system. The old system (0-50, 5 judges score between 0-10) worked perfectly, but they f’ed it up by limiting scores from 40-50, which is idiotic. Jaxson Hayes had one of the worst dunks in dunk contest history, and was scored better than Jace Richardson’s second dunk, which is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
No Kenny Smith on dunk contest commentary was very noticeable. It’s just not the same when he’s absent. Although Reggie Miller was pretty good tonight.
It feels weird that it’s 8pm, and the Saturday night events are already done. NBA All-Star Saturday night used to be THE EVENT OF THE YEAR, and I used to look so forward to this! But now, it’s just…meh.
Shooting Stars needs to go back to the old format
100%
Some shots from people that attended. Half capacity…if that. Wouldn’t pe surprised with a similar attendance for the ASG. All star weekend is beyond repair
Only thing I’m happy about is that Damien lillard 2, he’s gotta be one of the funniest people in the league
It’s amazing to me people care so much about nba all star weekend. The nfl practically ditched the pro bowl because they know people actually care about regular season football.
Maybe if u made the regular szn relevant and appointment viewing u wouldn’t have to depend on all star weekend to draw eyeballs.
Saturday night afternoon was so early. Was it because of the Winter Olympics? It’s my favorite part of All Star weekend
Bruh, it’s not even Saturday night yet in Cali and this shit is over.
Didn’t even know they were starting so early
Damn had no idea it was going on this early today, was ready to lounge and watch it
Dont know about yall but they should make the 3 point contest last, and move the dunk contest first.
nah bro we need to cancel the dunk contest this is embarrassing
There are reports from people who say they saw it happen
It’s over?
its already over wtf lol
Where is the skills competition and 3 point competition needs to be the last one. Start off with the dunk contest no one cares
Shooting challenge was fun. Corey Maggette and Allen Houston still got it.
Slam dunk contest was a snooze as expected.
3 point shooting contest continues to be the highlight of the evening. Some shooters out there.
For some reason the replay on Peacock only shows the slam dunk contest. I’m glad I recordeded it on YouTubeTV. Dumb having the event start at 2 PM PST.
Im less interested in the nba now
It’s good that they turned off the lighting over the crowd cause there were probably dozens of people there
“Close your eyes. Think about Magic Johnson. You can see the smile. Think about Michael (Jordan). You can see that cocky grin. Think about LeBron (James). You can see the imagery. Pregame chalk. You can close your eyes and there are images with stars,”
“Close your eyes now and do it with the 2026 NBA All Star Weekend, I don’t see anything.”
