People seem to forget that the west usually dominates which is why they tried to change it over the years. People complained so much that they try something new and then people act like they liked the first product.
The game has always sucked when it wasn’t close in the 4th, and every recent game that was close was a barnburner with serious effort. The problem is owners and the league’s other money people trying to legislate shooting luck out of their revenue stream even though it’s literally fundamental to the game.

They keep trying everything to spice it up instead of just going for a traditional East vs West.
They’ve done enough experimenting to where people would actually be interested in going back to the old format.
I would argue that USA vs World is actually a very logical and fan-servicey shake up as a one-time thing to coincide with the olympics (the literal exact reason they did it).
The problem is that the international all-stars absolutely crush the current US all-stars, and there’s also been a shit ton of injuries that have lined up poorly with all-star weekend, so now it’s become evident that team world is gonna put BTA on a half-hearted and aging team USA and then everyone is gonna forget about it in 2 days.
This isn’t even the first time they’ve done this format (USA vs World). Its not new or novel. Just make it a 3x3 tournament and call it a day.

Obviously needs East v West back so teammates can’t be on opposite teams but I think it would be cool if, for example, Cade won the whole Detroit team gets a small-bonus. Puts a bit of pressure to represent your franchise especially for the end of the bench guys.

250k more to who? If we’re talking about each teammate for each winning All-Star player that wins, in an East vs West format that would be 250k × 12 × 15 (excluding two-ways) = 45 million dollars. Even assuming there might be multiple players from the same team, that would still be in the 35M+ ballpark. That’s not gonna bankrupt the league but it would realistically be a very large chunk of what they’d profit from the ASG

These players do those routines because they prepare them physically and mentally to compete at such a high level. If you want them to play something that resembles nba basketball, you can’t have them standing around for 30 minutes before the game watching concerts and then having another concert at half time, etc.
The all star weekend can have those spectacles, but if the point of the weekend is basketball, they need to prioritize building around what the players need.

They would actually play basketball in the 4th quarter. We had some great moments, mostly in the early-mid 2000s. It wasn’t the shit show it has been recently with guys pulling 3s left and right.
We had Kobe vs LeBron, DWade breaking noses, and legit takeovers. It was fun as shit and exciting basketball watching the best of the best actually play real basketball for even 10 minutes.
