That arena is EMPTY
Yikes. Couldn’t they give away tickets to elementary school kids or something? All Star weekend is supposed to be special. What happened?
I looked at tickets for the game and the cheapest tickets with a discount were 600 dollars and that was in nose bleeds
They didn’t use dynamic pricing I guess
The “price dynamically” button looks like an up-arrow and there’s no other controls.
the prices are dynamically going up
Dynamic… like dynamite?
LIGHT THE FUSE
BRING THE BOOM
DYNAMITE
IT’S WEDNESDAY! YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!
IT’S AEW DYNAMITE, I’M EXCALIBUR. I’M WITH THE HUMAN SUPLEX MACHINE TAZ AND TONY SCHIAVONE!
Commentary team Jones over here - but I digress
Which is dumb from a revenue perspective because lowering prices due to low demand is a prudent business decision to sell all the seats.
Unsold seats bring $0 in revenue.
In the short term, sure. But if people think they’ll be able to get the tickets significantly cheaper by waiting they’ll be less likely to pay a higher face value next time.
Back like 10 years ago when the Yankees really sucked they set a price floor for third party tickets on their exchange because they didn’t want to season ticket holders to talk to the people next to them and realize their \(150 seats were selling for \)30.
That’s fair. There’s more complexity behind ticket pricing that I’m not accounting for.
But at the same time, the pricing model has clearly failed when the arena is empty.
Lol absolutely. If you set your price so higher no one will buy it, but you’re worried if you lower it, they won’t buy it at that price next time, then your model is completely broken. At a minimum give it away so you at least gain some value on write-offs, concessions, and perceptions of a packed house.
I miss going to those games though, I saw one of the most electric comebacks ever when they were down like 8-1 in the 8th. Only way I would have ever been able to afford em because they got good
Seems like the floor pricing was set far too high for this. I don’t know why they don’t run a reservation system to see how many people are even interested in the first place, it’s like they have absolutely zero people on the corporate team who know how to gauge market interest. And it shows with them fracturing the national TV and streaming deals between 10 different places
thats honestly really surprising compared to in san Francisco last year. i think the cheapest packages were \(1500-\)2000 per seat
People are utterly insane if they are paying prices like that to see all star shit. But hey, it’s their money.
Don’t underestimate how insignificant that amount is to 10% of the population.
Yeah but that 10% of the population aren’t the ones sitting in the nosebleeds.
Most of the % that it’s insignificant too probably have their own price packages I’d guess.
Top 10% household is still only $250k before taxes.
1%. Top 10% definitely still notices dropping a grand for a couple tickets to a shit event
It’s still a waste of time and a trash event regardless of how much it’s worth.
I’d rather go see my team on the road night two of a back to back where they sit half thier starters than the all-star game.
I swear to god I do not understand who the fuck is buying these tickets to anything. An event came to my town and I was thinking id like to go and would splurge at \(200 per ticket. The cheapest ticket was \)800 to sit in the back row of a 20,000 seat arena. How are all these people paying that much for this?
they aren’t. that’s why it was empty
Not sure how many of you all have been to the Chase Center, but the upper level seats are cramped, provide very little leg room, and it is steeper than a mofo up there. Holy hell…
I went to 1 all star game ever. I lived in a high rise looking at the magic arena so I went to that one. Got nosebleeds just for me, got to see Kobe in person and some moron kept yelling Kobe…BEAN..Bryant.
Anyways even back then it was a little over 300 with fees and shit
The game was trash and they tried hard for about 5 minutes at the end
Trying hard for 5 minutes at the end sounds like a good Saturday night to me.
Omg I got free tickets to the Friday night activities in Orlando and there was a dude that wouldn’t stop yelling RICKY every time Rubio got the ball. Wonder if it was the same guy.
Probably was lol
Why would anyone pay thousands of dollars for the ASG in 2026?
It is actively repulsive to watch at this point with how nobody can be bothered.
Like direct sales or scalpers?
I kinda hope it’s the latter because screw those guys
Direct sales. I looked for me and my gf, but I couldn’t justify it.
I saw them for under $200 an hour before the event started. Still didn’t seem worth it considering what the lineup was.
I wanted to go, but prices were just too high. I went to Rising Stars yesterday for $250/ticket and it was really empty
Priced fans out of the event
Seems like all the big sports and entertainment options are going this route. Us regular folks will have to watch basically everything through one of the hundreds of streaming services out there or sail the high seas.
Bread and circuses…. except the bread is getting stale and the circuses are unaffordable
High-Fructose Corn Syrup and Youtube
McDonald’s and Netflix
Everclear and streameast
Mad Dog 20⁄20 and Rojadirecta
4Loco and watching your friend hop around clapping in front of 7⁄11
Yo ho, a pirates life for me 🏴☠️
Yarr matey type shit.
Yep, wwe is having trouble selling out wrestlemania in Vegas because private equity has taken over the company and vegas making both unaffordable for the lower middle class. Record profits is all they care about not people.
WWE is exactly who I had in mind when I said “entertainment options”. Shot has been outright disrespectful to the people who got the there.
I would love to go to both Vegas and WM but I can’t drop 3,500 for two days including flight, hotel, tickets to the show just to be in the nose bleeds.
27k for ring side is just crazy Pricing
I hope it hurts all these companies in the long run when they haven’t organically grown their fans because none of them grow up going to the games
Let these fuckets choke on their short term profits. Reality is going to hit them in the face later
No it’s not. For the employees working for these organizations who don’t really have any say in how things are run, sure. For the ceos and shareholders? Golden parachutes, guaranteed job spots and bailouts. Thats actually why so many things are getting worse. Shareholders and ceos have no personal involvement with a company and can ride it into the ground to make their money. Eventually they’ll run out of companies to suck dry, but by that time they’ll have a lifetimes supply of backup funds and a private island to retire on.
And if you live in the area they’ll black you out and go after some places for showing it (like WrestleMania in Vegas this year).
If you look at games from the 90’s and early 2000’s, sections 100 - 200 were full of fans wearing jerseys, standing and cheering. Now it’s a bunch of dudes in polos and down jackets on their phones the entire game with their trophy wives. Every seat has been bought through some corporate entity and the owners go to 80% of the games. Shits whack.
That’s why they have to play so much loud music on every possession or blast EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS, otherwise it would be dead quiet.
Worst part about the NBA product in-arena. In Europe, the fans lead the chants. They learned them as kids because working class people could afford to take the family. In the US, we priced out the real fans and make up for it with obnoxious recordings and GET LOUD graphics.
EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS
CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP
i miss when all the top star players would sit court side watching all the events now all we get is just giannis every year
The older the camera, the funnier
They (players, owners) literally don’t understand how the 50 million a year contracts happen.
Got greedy, shat in their own nests and the result is inevitable.
Makes no sense though, why wouldn’t they just lower the prices closer to the event when tickets weren’t selling? They’d rather have an empty arena than sell tickets for $50 each?
It seems weird, but I always assume the greedy bastards always know how to make the most money. And what I think is always happening now is that teams/venues/events do some kind of calculation where they’re happy to sell (for example) around half the tickets at, say, 3X the price. So if the arena would sell out at \(50 per ticket (like in your example), they charge \)150 — then when the arena is half-full, they still come out “ahead.” Dropping prices too much near game time means less people will splurge for $150 for the next one.
Teams that close the upper deck sections calculated that they would be more profitable because even though they would sell fewer seats, they would also lower costs by not having to pay additional personnel(security, ushers, vendors, cleaners, etc.).
Unironically, yes. We are past the point of a big company, business, or product such as sports needing to sell to as many customers as possible. Now they just need to sell to the “right” customers. The ones wealthy enough to pay a premium price.
You see this now in lots of things. Hell, look at video games. More and more games are tailored to whales and big spenders with micro transactions because a small percentage of paying customers make up the most revenue.
It’s 4 o’clock on Valentine’s Day and cheapest ticket is currently $150
Valentine’s day is not a notable holiday in terms of live sporting event attendance. It’s not going to drastically effect anything in either direction. It’s 4pm on a Saturday and nobody can be bothered.
Lmao there are so many other better things to do in SoCal than to pay to watch this dreck.
They could have hosted it in any city and there would still be better things to do than pay for that garbage
I’m convinced they should only have all star events in “boring cities” or some Non NBA cities bring the all star game to Rochester, hello Cincinnati, what it do St.Louis.
That’s my point
Fans who would’ve gone to the game just might be doing stuff with their partners.
Meanwhile on Valentines Day in Australia 58,000 people in Perth went to watch a pre-season game…
Aussies confirmed sportscels
It’s also 1pm pacific time where they are playing. Inconvenient as hell
It’s 4 o’clock in California right now. Source: Me in California
I’m talking about when the event started
Ah, I’m an idiot. I apologize.
Source?
Why did this shit start so early
NBC is showing Olympics after this during prime time hours
Next year’s Super Bowl is on Valentine’s Day, so it’s gonna be interesting to see how that affects the viewership
It won’t. NBA All Star weekend is just a shitshow lmao
Except for one man. Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
HE’S GOING THE DISTANCE
He’s going for speed
He’s all alone
(All alone)
All alone at the ASG
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course
Jokic is on his horse
He’s going the distance.
He’s fighting and biting and riding Joker’s horse
RIP Greg Brown
Yo wtf this is how I find out 😢
Fashion Nugget is one of my favorite albums of all time =(
Counterpoint: Comfort Eagle goes way harder.
You’re both wrong. Prolonging The Magic is their best record.
This is why Cake is so fucking awesome. All albums mentioned could be argued as their best.
Wtf I didn’t see the news at all
man that sucks, RIP :(
Wait, this game is at Arco Arena??
This is the best cake joke in this thread and it’s genuinely insane to me it isn’t getting more love
Cause sad songs and references to defunct stadiums aren’t selling this year.
CHURNING, AND BURNING, They yearn for the CUP!
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns
what a pull
This is why I search before I comment. Top notch work. 🫡
I’m in the area. Not paying those prices
I didn’t even realize the all-star break was this weekend until now. Thought it was still coming up.
Didn’t know until I saw a post that Dame won the 3pt contest.
I have not been following this all star weekend at all. I didn’t even know Dame won the 3pt contest let alone participated in it.
I’m such a casual I forgot he went back to Portland lmao
*participated let alone won it
Funnily enough I also thought it was next week
I wanted to watch the dunk contest. I didn’t check the time figured it would be around 8pm est. turned it on at 7:55. It’s done. Of course went to the terrible coverage of the Olympics.
This is what happened to me. Been on at 8 on tnt for years. I turned it on at 7:56 and it was over. I don’t give a shit about the game but I loved skills night and they ruined it.
I got suspicious when there were like 14 games on Wednesday
Same, it’s less than an hour away for me, didn’t even consider going
The sad reality is that people need to stop expecting anything special out all star weekend now. The product has been incredibly watered down.
We’re probably not far off from just eliminating all star weekend.
flag basketball with Shedeur then??
I want Shadeur Sanders in every sport’s all star game. Fuck it, put him in the home run derby.
Well, people still try in that one, so it might be a while
Your 2026 Ms. America IS! …Shedeur Sanders!
I’ve been saying for years an all star one on one contest like the ladies are doing in unrivaled would be blockbuster. Imagine the ratings for LeBron vs KD or ant vs Wemby lol I just never think the players will put their ego to the side to actually do it. No one wants to be the one who loses.
I’ll be curious to see what the viewership numbers are like
NBA in general needs a major overhaul. It’s the all star break and with the tanking they might as well just start the playoffs tomorrow.
Adam Silver is ruining the NBA. I have never seen so many comments about the product being bad in the two decades I have been watching the NBA, which is a major indictment on the league itself. Really hope the All-Star weekend being so empty would put the owners on notice.
He’s just following the corporate profit playbook. They all ask customers and hold workshops to figure out why viewership is down and they hear the same thing every single time. It’s WAY too fucking expensive, watching from home is frustrating and hard to navigate since it’s on 3+ subscriptions to watch all the games, you can’t catch a game in your home market without subbing to likely incredibly shitty and incredibly overpriced app, officiating is schizophrenic, many of the trades are bonkers, the gambling shit is bleeding off of every surface, and did I say it’s too fucking expensive? Silver hears this, turns around and says “got it, I hear you! So moving forward we’re gonna go ahead and raise prices, add more games to various platforms, do nothing about officiating, push gambling more, and raise the prices a little more. The fans are going to LOVE THIS!”.
Same story in every industry in this late stage capitalism nightmare we inhabit. Rampant greed, grift, corruption, and businesses that at this point seem pissed off they have to go through the customer to get to their wallet.
The NBA as a product has gotten so watered down. They keep trying to come up with stupid gimmicks instead of addressing the bigger issues.
They need to fix the way the refs are calling these games. They need to revamp the whole media distribution deals (unlikely since they get more money this way though), so that I can actually see the team I root for without having to pay for 3-4 different services.
NBA as a product has nose dived over the last 5 years. Pretty crazy to watch.
lot of stuff in “entertainment” has gone down. movies, TV, music, award shows, pro wrestling, video games, NBA, Pro Bowl
Idk man, MLB and NFL have been pretty amazing the last 3 years. In terms of sports, the downslide is pretty uniquely an NBA problem.
Agreed, MLB and NFL have been great. The NBA’s product is just crap nowadays and starts with they way they’re calling the games
The chasing of virality and a quick buck which is largely superficial and doesnt create lasting bonds.
I don’t know anyone who watches it. Nobody tries on the court and it’s boring half court three chucking
the Fans took a Load Management Day
Fine them.
All Star Weekend is a punishment in and of itself
Clearly the Jazz and Wizards fault.
But really, Adam Silver is a dogshit commissioner. Whole league is falling apart.
He is the worst. It’s shocking that NBA owners put up with him. Can you imagine what Jerry Jones would say about Silver?
Jerry would say wee making a shit ton of money and my franchise is worth a billion dollars. Carry on.
Owners dont care, franchise values keep increasing.
Well NBA players also love him and it’s a player centric league. Arguably too much so
Owners don’t GAF as long as the $$$ keeps rolling
He put the league in bed with gambling and likely other seedy groups that control gambling. He’s making them money, they are cool with it. It hurts the long term product, but we are in the instant gratification era so fuck it.
Can’t wait for Adam silver to introduce two new franchises to the NBA. Not like there’s a tanking epidemic going on. Don’t ask questions about how they’re going to come up with like 30+ new NBA players for these teams.
“Introducing the Monaco BaccaRats and the Macau Multipliers. Sponsored by Kalshi, FanDuel, and a couple nice guys from Sicily…”
Social media has ruined the dunk contest. You can see people doing seemingly impossible dunks all over instagram so these dunks seem rather tame and played out.
It will never, ever be like it was 20 years ago
I mean there’s only so many ways you can dunk a basketball. We’re going to get to a point where everything that can be done has already been done if we’re not there already.
If you look through Jordan Kilgannon’s YouTube you can find probably 100+ dunks that have never been done in the nba dunk contest and would all easily be 50’s. Issue is they all require a level of skill that you can’t just give an nba player 2 practices and expect them to be able to do them.
Not only that, but he isn’t on a timer. Even if he can do it 1 out of every 10 times, that is enough for the clip
I mean he’s still done a ton of dunks in dunk contests that nba players can not do. Anyone who specializes their whole life to one niche part of a game are gonna be better than guys who play the whole sport.
I say fuck it just invite the best dunkers from YouTube. Make it a celebration of basketball in general.
Nah man, 25 years ago was literally the best contest ever arguably. The 2001 contest with Vince, McGrady, and Francis. And then a couple years after that were great. 2003 was sick. Jason Richardson and Desmond Mason were insane.
The dunk contest was still really awesome in the early 2000s. It was always inconsistent, some years even in the 90s sucked.
10 years ago we had Lavine vs Gordon
Agreed. To be clear, I love the dunk contest in general and know it ebbs and flows in terms of quality. I was pointing out that saying it was only good 35 years ago is insane
As a 90’s kid, it’s so fucked up to watch this influencer-flavored social media circus event.
I went to an all-star weekend in the 90s and won a couple cases of cards at an event and a pair of Jordans at an event. Shit was peak.
I get that NBC’s got the Olympics, but it’s pretty shameful to have All Star Saturday Night and the ASG start at 2.
I’m shocked the league is okay with this. Letting one of their supposed marquee products be an afternoon afterthought??! I get that nbc has the tnt package and tnt hosted the all star every year but surely the league could’ve made it where nbc lets Prime or ESPN have the all star events every 4 years when they’ll be busy with the Olympics
they’re ok with it because they know it’s no longer a marquee event. Shit is trash
I literally missed the 3pt contest because I didn’t know it started that early. Was just planning to tune in like 6:30-7 on twitter it was just over
All Star Weekend 2026: Youuuuuuu light my fire
All Star been washed for a few years now
I stopped caring when they first removed the East vs West concept for the ASG
Product is bad + valentines + olympics
They couldn’t even bother to turn on Ludacris’ mic during his 10 minute concert
All the AS weekend is is for the NBA sponsors. I’ll never forget back in the early 2000’s when the AS weekend was in Phoenix, man that was a great experience for me as a kid. Still have my Lebron East jersey in my closet
Last time we had a good All Star game was Chicago, 3pt contest does well most years but Dunk contest & constant skills contest changes each year suck.
Weekend is a mess.
We need the NBA v WNBA shooting contest back btw that shit was FUN
Never should’ve gotten rid of that. These dunk contests are terrible too. Who are these players? Why are we giving out 45s for shitty dunks that get done every year?
To me that’s the biggest problem with the dunk contest and why guys don’t want to do it. What got you a 50 20 years ago would yet you a 40 now. There’s only so far they can stretch the athleticism of a dunk contest and continue to do new things lol
It’s LA and Valentine’s Day. Too much to compete with for locals and too expensive for most fans to travel to. Attendance is always better with smaller cities where allstar weekend is the only event in town.
Speaking as someone who lives in LA, you’re spot on. All my friends are with their significant others today. Also, not only are the tickets for this event expensive, so is parking our vehicles.
It ain’t worth it.
Why the fuck is this starting at 7?? What are they competing with in prime time tonight??
Girlfriends
What’s that?
They bring you lasagna at work.
I just checked to see what time it came on. It’s fucking over.
I hate the NBA so much. They actively hate their fans and I’m tired of being a mark.
Lol I did the same shit, turned it on expecting the pregame and it was the dunk contest finals. Even the NBA doesn’t want people to see this trash but it was probably moved earlier due to primetime Olympics having priority.
apparently a tv clash with the winter olympics
Weird night for the olympics too; curling, biathalon, speed skating, and big air. I’d rather watch biathalon than whatever the fuck the NBA all star game is but I would also rather watch just about anything.
If the players don’t care, why should we?
I ain’t paying $600 for this bullshit
There’s actually shit to do in LA this time of year, there’s a reason this shit does way better in the midwest
True
People were hating on Indiana but it was popping there last time
They’ve also been to LA like 5 times in 22 years
But Ballmer needs to show off his palace of privacy invasion
Would you pay to go see a bunch of professionals half-ass a day of competition? I wouldn’t.
I turned that shit off the second I saw Druski
Lol no one has done more with less. The guy is everywhere and nobody ever wants to see him
Typical clipper games attendance
Burn capitalism to ground. Greedy fucks
Right. We have poverty not because we can’t feed the poor but because we can’t satisfy the rich.
I was an Uber driver when All-Star weekend came to Utah a few years ago. I was shocked at how many people that came were from outside the United States.
International tourism is way down. I’m sure it’s at least part of what’s hurting ticket sales.
I’m watching this at work and I feel like I should be working instead. It’s that bad.
On a nice beautiful day in Los Angeles why would I pay hundreds of dollars to watch bad basketball?
Too expensive, it’s not even 5 pm yet in LA, Valentine’s Day, the all star game and events aren’t exciting to the general public anymore
I watch all star Saturday every year and I’m just finding out now (mid dunk contest) that the event started at 5est. What is the league thinking putting on mid day on a Saturday? How can that be a good decision for fans. Makes the event look so minor leagues not doing it at night
I just bike along the beach earlier today… everyone was outside
I am glad to see this trend continue from the NFL pro bowl to hopefully all future sporting events. They have priced out the middle class with these ridiculous prices and the rich people arent gonna spend money or attend these second hand events. Lets keep voting with our wallets!
They will blame the Olympics
It isn’t about the Olympics, it just isn’t a good product worth anyone’s time
Gambling is all the NBA has right now and that won’t last either
Nothing more romantic than taking your girl to this dunk contest on Valentine’s Day
