Empty Seats at Rising Stars
I hope all the resellers are happy. Tickets were $1k+ for nosebleeds and now the stadium is empty af. Guess I’ll watch on Peacock.
Mods ain’t make a thread for us diehards actually watching lol
Man this is honestly my favorite event of the weekend. Deserves way more screen time than the celebrity game at least.
100%. They actually give decent effort
The target score concept is actually kind of fire. That would eliminate intentional fouling. Ijs
I just wish they made the target score higher.
Resuscitation in the third game. Like first 2 go to 30, 3rd game to 50
Elam scoring, named for and buy the guy who invented it. Eliminates intentional fouling bullshit, every game ends on a buzzer beater, it’s tops.
Should be implemented into real games. My idea is to make cup games ELAM ending; would make them stand out.
I’m watching it and enjoying it
maybe i’m just old but outside of the athletes on the roster I only recognized 6 celebrities.
Naw it’s the way our media consumption is fractured now. Instead of us all watching roughly the same channels and seeing the same commercials, we are all watching different shit at different times.
Not to mention anyone with some views who went “viral” is also a celeb now.
There are so many movies that release nowadays that I have no idea even came out 😂 Did you know there was a Nuremberg movie released last year? It’s pretty good too.
The last thing I remember that really permeated throughout the culture was Barbie and Oppenheimer coming out at the same time. They had to spend so much on marketing lol.
Literally only ASW event I can tolerate, even the 3-point contest is a meth-addled fiend compared to its former self.
I haven’t watched rising stars in a minute. Do they usually play this much defense?
Rising Stars actually typically play pretty hard (for an exhibition)
It’s just by pure coincidence that there’s many positive defenders on the court at once lmao
The G league team usually care than other 3 teams
Yeah that sucks, can’t see a thread
They be hoopin
*us degenerates
Yeah I’m a sicko
Don’t worry, they made a thread for themselves.
Holy shit there is no one there.
Thats why they got no lighting on the crowd lol
They had bigger crowds at the bubble
Bigger crowds bullied me in high school
Unfortunately, user name checks out
Me too. It was because I transferred to a different school after my Freshman year. Came back my Senior year & got em. I had 28 w/ 6 3’s. It was a highlight of life. Felt so good to go off in that environment!
Damn near choked on my Honey Nut Chex 😂😂😂
Same strategy for Cup games
What happens when the NBA markets the weekend to TikTok/YouTuber influencers, streamers, and other hipsters.
Hipsters don’t have TikTok and hate influencers. Well, meaning the Portland type of hipsters. I’m not sure what Bugles meant by “hipsters” exactly, but if you call someone a hipster in Portland, SF, LA, Seattle, Chicago, Austin, Nashville, or NYC- they’re going to take that as a compliment.
Hipster is a dead word doesn’t make any sense anymore
That’s mostly true, but it certainly doesn’t mean someone obsessed with social media. The aging hipsters don’t even have social media accounts anymore. I, for one, would welcome a hipster resurgence. I’d replace the mom/dad jeans look and the music that puts too much importance on lyrics…then the indie look and indie rock any day…
Hipsters here in LA are all baseball fans
That’s partly because Dodger Stadium is next to Echo Park/Silver Lake/Los Feliz. That will always be hipster central.
Tell me why I paid $150 for these seats brother
Cling Kong and bang bang yang gang baby. Priceless
You make bad financial decisions. Btw, can I borrow a couple hundred bucks?
bruh
Yikes
Honestly was the same for SF last year. Celebrity game and all star practice gets more attention as local team season ticket holders get priority for practice
I bet tickets were massively overpriced
Last year for SF, all star practice took place at the old Oakland arena, Oracle, & sold for $60 by Ticketmaster. It was first come, first serve seating and easy to get.
The camera angles are fucking insane. Unpaid intern majoring in cinematography for sure.
The underexposed camera shots 🤮
Is the dark lighting an attempt to cover up how many empty seats there are?
yes….
I find that light helps me to see things
I believe the Lakers does this even on home games. The only team I know who does
Knicks.
Doesn’t Brooklyn as well, I might be wrong, but I feel like that was/is a thing.
I need a screenshot
I got a text two days ago from the “NBA Experience” sales rep selling $349 nose bleed. Told them no.
No one is sitting in LA traffic for a rising stars game unless there are big names. They turned off the lights on the entire crowd to hide it lol
everytime a camera flashes and you just see empty seats staring back at you
People would go if he didn’t cost an arm.
Not really lol I went to plenty of All-Star related events today that were dope. Why tf would I go to a Rising Stars game? Flagg aint even playing lol
I would’ve gone if tickets were affordable. But they ain’t.
Back in the day if tickets weren’t selling they’d have these things called “sales”
Even if the tickets were free there’s no way I’d drive out there on a Friday
I mean that’s how the Lakers actually have the lights. When the Clippers played there they weren’t allowed to have the crowd lights off. They call it the Black Out or something like that.
The NBA should trade out the all star game and weekend of mid/random celebrity games for a comic con like convention where they have players sign autographs and take pictures for like 500 bucks a ticket. The current all star game format now feels like we are watching a LA fitness pick up game between rich people. I don’t even think there is a novelty to it at this point.
They should just cancel it all together and just have the week off. The all star game has sucked for the past 20+ years.
My radical regular season structure would be two round robins for 58 games, with a big break between round robins. During the break you do nba cup with the best teams in the first half of the season and turn the final into the centerpiece of an all star weekend type event. Instead of all star team you can just do a mid-season team akin to all-nba.
In fairness the Rising Stars at least actually are playing like they give a shit.
I don’t think this will ever happen, but I would love a four-nations faceoff-style week. Team USA basketball would definitely sell out imho.
Blud we dont even have enough players to form a team outside Canada and USA
Yeah this idea is overrated af
I mean you can use the actual national teams and just get rid of the All-Star game altogether.
Would not be an “NBA” All Star game wouldt it?
That’s the whole point. Get rid of the all-star concept for something else
Why would the Nba prioritise non NBA players and their competitors
Holy shit if were brainstorming ideas can we atleast make it make sense
Where is the match thread
44 mods on r/nba and we can’t even get a game thread.
Too bad the sub isn’t locked down in protest, otherwise there would be one
Man, how much i wish the admins wouldve actually enacted voting mods out
It wouldve been hilarious to see the mods meltdown and them bending over just to keep being a hall monitor
Reddit mods are the funniest thing to me. Literally glorified hall monitors
What’s funny about being a ******* ***** *****? (not getting banned for talking shit about mods again)
lol I forgot about this. That was nuts.
And watch the games? Never.
They must’ve though this was an AEW show and skipped out
r/squaredcircle creeping over!
Trillions are watching on peacock.
Can’t talk ratings on squarecircle so the dented heads are talking shit on r/nba
I can’t talk anything on Squaredcircle after I mocked Meltzer in late 2022 and got a ban from there
I got banned years ago from there for saying that Wardlow would be booked better in WWE.. lol..
Break the tarps out!
Heading to Grand Slam Sydney in two hours and I read this
Yeah but how many watched on Max
Its just basic math, if you take the 600k viewers and multiply it by 10, because i said so, then its 6m viewers. So they beat both raw and smackdown!
How dare you sir?
I’ve lost interest in AEW in the last couple of years, but their tickets are reasonably priced and they give you your money’s worth. So lets not shit on AEW. They treat their fans well and deserve respect for that, unlike the NBA.
They are cheaper because no one wants to go to them..
WWE charges more cause they have to make their shareholders money,,, & cause supply & demand.. more people want to go to WWE events than AEW.. lol…
Yeah, I was hoping to check this game out thinking the prices might be somewhat reasonable, but nope
Which is weird as they weren’t too bad the last couple years. I wonder if location being in LA is a factor
There are so many all star events going on around the city. There was a dope event with Nike in Crenshaw and something else going on right outside Staples.
Those were a lot more fun than paying for a Rising Stars game. Who is even in it? No Flagg? I’m good
My friend got 4 tickets today for $35 each to sit lower level
I doubt people in LA will go out of their way to care about this lol. Bring it to one of the small market cities
I live in SoCal. Nobody is driving on a Friday night in traffic for this game
Even big markets that aren’t LA are fine, Toronto was one of the best because they genuinely wanted it
Can’t speak for Salt Lake City or Cleveland bc I wasn’t there, but there were better things to do when the Rising Star Game was in Indianapolis.
I went to the rising stars game when it was in Indy and had a great time. Cheaper than the all star game itself and a better event imo. They had fun stuff to do down at the convention center all day too. Tons of merch, fun little basketball games and challenges, pop a shots galore. Got to meet Roy Hibbert, Bill Walton, etc. It’s pretty fun in person even if the tv product is only so so. I don’t get the hate.
I met Roy Hibbert that weekend too! It was outside of Gainbridge but at a free secondary event. I noticed him before anybody else and said my piece. Then a few others noticed him & he was nice to them, but he was with his girl & they dipped before long.
There was a lot going on that weekend. It was hard to justify any of the paid stadium events IMO.
you could also easily walk between Gainbridge, Convetion center, Lucas Oil and most of the hotels, easily on foot despite the cold.
Same with Toronto and Charlotte.
Yeah. To be clear, I participated in some free secondary & tertiary events that weekend. Met Roy Hibbert, saw Tyrese Haliburton, etc. But when it came time to spend money, I went to see a comedy show a couple blocks from the convention center.
Indianapolis seens to me that its not big enough for people to have a “meh, another so called big event, ill check it out if its convenient” but not small enough to worry about not selling out the venues
We punch above our weight when it comes to attracting big conventions & sporting events.
NBA All Star weekend was a little bigger than normal, but it was definitely still a “I’ll sus the area out by foot & maybe buy a ticket if it looks worth it” type of thing.
Lmao good for you for thinking that you have actually going on in your cemetary city lmao.
Indy isn’t LA, but there are at least a half dozen shows/events tonight that I’d rather spend money on than the Rising Stars Game.
So out of a city of like 10 million people there wasn’t 15,000 that wanted to go?
Not when tickets are $300+.
Oh dang that’s fair
Nosebleed was $40……
Looks like the typical Clippers game attendance wdym
Is it THIS bad usually?
I don’t have current (Intuit Dome) knowledge, but pre-covid I had season tix. Attendance was pretty good, but for most games it was like 75%+ away fans lol
Even with Kawhi/PG the tickets didn’t sell for shit and it was a crazy amount of non-Clips fans (including me whoops)
Doesn’t Intuit Dome require an app? That plus prices and face scanning or whatever is a major turnoff and probably why people don’t attend Clipper games. Plus the drive to Inglewood is twice as long as to downtown LA where Crypto is. I hope the resellers eat their losses. The game is probably more competitive than the All Star game, though.
is the face scan thing actually a big deal for the people interested in and living in the us ? the second I saw that when they inaugurated the stadium I knew I’d never go there for that reason, but idk if most “casuals” care about it
I’ve been about 3 times. There’s always hiccups/ issues/ technical difficulty. And you have to scan everywhere you go in the arena. Can’t just walk in to a shop without pausing and checking in. It makes the experience so much more annoying. Beyond terrible fan experience. Just so they can harvest our data. Under the guise of “convenience.” I really hope this trend doesn’t continue in the future.
I’ve been about 3 times. I really hope this trend doesn’t continue in the future.
I’ve been about 3 times.
I really hope this trend doesn’t continue in the future.
Lol. Lmao, even
That sounds awful, I would much rather just provide my ticket on my phone and ID if I want to buy alcohol. It’s always really easy to get into and around the Pacers stadium, I always enjoy going there.
Plus the drive to Inglewood is twice as long
I mean that clearly depends on where you live in LA…
I thought about going but going to intuit at rush hour was like what’s the point of subjecting myself to that, if courtside was around $150 I’d consider it
Just make it super dark and add these weird leds that shouldn’t be as bright as they are if people were actually in the venue lol
Use the Covid cardboard audience
Add some fake crowd noise and we’re set!
Looks awful on tv. All that’s being picked up on the mic is the Wall.
Amateur hour for a billion dollar league. Awesome
the prices are crazy for an event with no hype and most of the stars out. All 3 days are priced at premium + prices lol.
The audio on Peacock is completely fucked. This is worse than having the game on YouTube or twitch
Scalpers ruin everything
lol I wouldn’t go for free
It started at about 6 on a Friday in Cali. I don’t think anyone is going to care about the rising stars game. People (barely now) care about the skills comp and all star game but those will be sold out
It’s LA. So many better things to do tbh.
Like sitting in traffic
its 6:15pm PST, people are in their cars.
“It’s 6PM. Do you know where your cars are?”
“I told you last night NO!”
Or looking at crippling depression.
Tickets to these events should be practically free for fans.
Just raise the prices on food and drinks to make up the difference
I guess that’s why they’ve completely darkened the seats
All star is always like this. The corporate sponsors get all the tickets and don’t end up going to most of the events cuz they are out drinking and going to random parties.
Also clippers stadium isn’t near anything, so people aren’t even gonna just pop in for a bit and leave. They just won’t go.
The Forum was/is in the exact same area. People were flocking there
I kinda feel bad at this point, but doesn’t matter what the Clippers build, they’ll always be little bro. It sucks cause Intuit is a dope ass arena, 1000x better than Staples
I get showing the players team once at introduction but why can’t they show it when they score as a basic overlay once in awhile?
For the common fan, why watch??
[deleted]
I’m jerking off to him as we speak
Tickets were \(40 bucks, not \)1k
Nobody cares about these
I would go to one of the 3 days if prices weren’t out of control.
You genuinely would have to pay me to go to this
I live in LA and checked last minute. Seats cost around 100 bucks still available at noon today. Still didn’t go though because parking is 50 bucks and up
Ngl I didn’t even know this was today
Much better things to do in LA on a Friday night
The entire NBA All-Star weekend is total cringe at this point
Right? I have zero intention of turning any of it on except maybe watching the 3 point contest
Yeah, I’d like to watch Dame Lillard shoot three-pointers and three-point contest but other than that, I really don’t care
At lest these guys try a bit. Reminds me of the all-star games of the past people of my age now wax nostalgically about.
Is the ASG always the President’s Day weekend?
No one’s there because you’re all watching the Olympics
OP obviously doesn’t know how All Star Weekend tickets work.
The vast majority of tickets are given to the NBA’s corporate partners and whomever else they’re schmoozing.
There’s not a lot of tickets that are left for everyone and that then make it to the resale market.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what’s happening.
ETA: since everyone is a fucking moron:
https://www.ibj.com/articles/all-star-game-tickets-hard-to-come-by-nba-partners-inviting-corporate-clients
No, you do.
I’ve been to 3 different all star weekends. The secondary market is alive and well. There are 20k-30k tickets to these events.
Yea, with the few tickets that are leftover.
Also I’d love to see these 30k person arenas.
I used a range, let’s relax and not move goal posts.
There are no goal posts being moved. There’s almost no tickets available to the public. You have no idea how this works.
Rising stars isn’t the celebrity game. Do your research before commenting. Two different stadiums, dumbo.
Federal government needs to implement a reseller tax for these ticket whores. Something like taxing them 100x the ticket price daily until its sold
LA resident here and I’m sure even the most die hard bball fans arent going to sit in traffic, and people are tired from ICE shit and expensive groceries, plus there’s probably a ton of other things going on around town today
Other things such as?
they never answer this, and if they do it’s always some generic answer like party or go to the beach as if they can’t just do that another time within the day.
edit: comment below proved my point. no other city in the world beside LA have live shows or restaurants, nor does said places have multiple time slots for people who aren’t available at one specific time.
Concerts, film screenings, comedy shows, art shows, restaurants
Bro there is literally SO much to do on a given weekend in LA. One of my favorite artists had a concert in Hollywood, I missed a screening I wanted to check out that was by USC, Nike had a massive event at my high school (Crenshaw) that Devin Booker and other NBA players were at, and thats just what I had on my own personal radar.
This stuff doesn’t happen in other cities like that. Going to a Rising Stars event with no big names (no Flagg) is so far down my list
Bro what lmao. You need to log off if you think immigration is effecting All-Star weekend. Respectfully, if you know the culture, ICE aint going through black neighborhoods in South Central like that. That’s the core demo here.
interesting, my friend got tickets and they weren’t crazy expensive from what he said
How can I watch if I don’t have peacock? Or is this free on peacock ?
Get an antenna and watch on NBC free on your television
am I dumb to refuse to watch Peacock NBA? I already have League Pass and Prime. WTF?
Bruh i dead ass forgot about all-star weekend unironically af
And when it is all over you’ll wish you really did forget it.
This is by design by the nba. Oh well
Or you could simply not care about sports ball and just put your money in an envelope then mail it to Israel. Same difference.
Anybody else forget where this was taking place until you sought out the Los Angeles script on the court? It seems like I take notice more when it’s in less obvious market or there’s like…I don’t know, a certain compelling facet of it when it’s not in LA or some other metropolis.
I noticed that
Might be I’m dumb but what channel was this even on? I did the basic cable networks and nothing.
Also tho, I live in Los Angeles and honestly had no idea it was even here lol
Its LA. Anything earlier than 7:30 is going to be empty, once it gets around 8 it starts filling up.
My man, nobody here even knows or cares. I’m telling you there was absolutely no marketing for all star weekend like previous years
It’s LA we’re stuck in traffic
Why the heck is Hansen Yang playing
I happen to have peacock so I tuned in and I gotta say I enjoyed it. The NBA hasn’t been watchable in a decade for me but I liked this. The hard play and the extra tension of getting to the game point instead of playing the clock had me invested.
Yeah I’m ragging on it, but honestly the final was pretty good.
I’m not sure if OP was being sarcastic and was throwing Peacock under the bus when they said they were just going to watch the event on Peacock…or if they were just being matter of fact about it, but I hope it was the former.
K
Get a life. Especially u/1337speak who is all over the comments. The NBA product sucks. Period. If you’re watching the all star break and commenting anything about it play , you need friends. Or someone. Anyone. Get a job as a cashier or whatever but damn
It’s LA on a Friday night. What would you expect?
