Bobby Marks in 2018 and 2019: “Can we please get rid of the word “Tanking” in the NBA vocabulary. That word means that players/coaching staff are trying to lose on purpose. Now if you want to say management has put together an inferior roster with the focus of player development, that is fine.”
Marks: How about we replace the word tanking with: Cap flexibility, short-term contracts, player development (evaluation of young players) and minute restrictions for veteran players in the last 25 games. The T word is such a negative word.
Macmahon: That does kinda have a ring to it … but you gotta add, trying to get the highest possible pick. And then you might not be able to fit it all in a tweet.
Marks: You think that would fit on a t-shirt? Could maybe trademark it.

Marks: Or in the case of Golden State, injuries has decimated a roster that it now shifts gears to Player Development 101, that is fine. But the word tanking is such a demeaning word. Nobody chooses to lose. Sorry @tankathon
Tankathon: Organizations do choose to lose though, with the goal of winning later. Obviously Golden State wanted to win this year, but they’ve been dealt a horrible hand (ooh that is a pun) and “player development” and extended rests for injured stars for the future is a form of tanking.
Marks: We went 12-70 in 2009-10 and started the season 0-18. Nobody chose to lose, our roster just a stunk.
It feels unbelievably hypocritical to me that he is now choosing to stand on his high horse about Tanking. And maybe it’s a coincidence, but going after the team ran by the GM that fleeced you and your org out of multiple picks when they handed you a bunch of old guys, feels like it has something to do with it. Because he seems to have no issues with the other 7 teams doing the exact same thing
