Wemby is the most inconsistent 25 points per game scorer with DPOY level defense that we’ve ever seen!!!!

I don’t think he’s MVP level yet either. The Spurs record is more of a reflection of the overall team effort than it is about Wemby alone.

But he is top 5. Him and Ant are kinda taking turns on that spot because they have dud games more often compared to the top 4 players, but at worst he’s the 6th best player in the league. It would be probably more accurate to say that Wemby is top 5, it’s just that the gap from 5 to 4 is a bit wider than it is from 4 to 3. The game deems MVP offense more important than DPOY defense. I will say him and Ant are definitely closing in on Luka. He’s not been as stellar this season although he has been hurt so that factors into that.

Wemby being so unique is getting people to rush anointing him as something he’s not - yet. If you only watch the Spurs everyone once in a while or just see Wemby clips, you’d think he’s the best player right now. But watching him minute to minute, game by game, you will see the flaws of Wemby’s game, particularly on offense.

Wemby is inconsistent offensively but his defensive impact combined with his offense is 100% MVP level, MVP is never just about the season a player is having but the team and others too

Jokic, SGA, Luka. Then who are the other 2 you could arguably put over Wemby this year? Jaylen Brown? Cade? Brunson?

If Wemby’s mere presence consistently destroys the opponent on defense and it leads to winning, then there’s a legitimate case.

A lot of the things Bob said in a vacuum are either true or valid opinions. Then you listen to the clip and you can tell its hate, capped off with “he should be averaging 6 blocks” which is pure hate.

He is right in that Wemby is being anointed a bit too early imo. He’s already pretty comfortably in top 5 convos and I think people overrate his defense just a bit. I feel like previously we had to wait for guys to make noise in the playoffs before putting them into the super-super star tier. Wemby will probably do that in a few months lol, but it does feel like everyone kinda skipped that step with him. And maybe it’s for the best we don’t have that mindset, but it felt like it’s applied to every player besides Wemby

When the argument was “he’s averaging 24 points 11 reb and 3 blocks”, I think Horry has a point. That’s barely top 20 in scoring and he’s 5th in rebounds despite being the tallest player in the league. Blocks-wise yes he’s leading by a fair bit but again he’s the tallest dude. I’m more impressed with Beef Stew and Scottie Barnes both in the top 10 blocks and both under 6’9.

Plus the Spurs are something like 10-4 without him in the lineup. I have no doubt Wemby can do a lot more than this and it’s coming soon, but not he’s not there yet.
