Spurs did the same with Fox last season. He could have played through his finger injury like had been doing before on the Kings. They opted to just let him get finger surgery shortly after the Rodeo Road Trip ended. I think they just wanted him to play some home games before they shut him down. Also helped them get a higher lottery pick in the process. They lost a lot of winnable games in March and April. The surgery was definitely necessary, though.

PVNS is extremely rare, and you almost never hear about it in top-level athletes. That said, it’s a benign growth and surgery is usually effective. The real question is recurrence risk and how much joint damage was already present. Hope the best for JJ Jr.
