I’ve heard a lot of plans to fix tanking, I would just say a combination of a lot of ideas should be implemented. Every team that misses the playoffs (play-in included) gets flattened odds of 10%. You can’t get the number 1 draft pick in back to back years. And I would also say you can’t get the first draft pick more than 2 times in a 5 year span. Limit draft pick protections top 4-5 only. If a team falls outside of the playoffs, they are on “probation” meaning if they miss the playoffs again they lose 1 million off the cap per win below the 10-seed, as well as give an automatic discount to season ticket holders valued at 2% for each win under the 10th seed. When making the playoffs more than two years in a row, a team is allowed to erase 5% of a max contract from affecting the salary if that player was drafted by the team, and 2.5% otherwise - but only for a single contract. Also, I don’t know how to enforce/regulate this, but blatant tanking should come with serious penalties. I know there’s always the excuse of, “well the player said they had back soreness and we just wanted to be cautious,” but what the Jazz have done now three straight games is so blatant no reasonable defense is possible. I genuinely think the Jazz should get penalized if for no other reason that to set the precedent that the league recognizes what they are doing is a form of tanking.

Kings are genuinely a bad team and they lost. Jazz are not a bad team. They could win at least 10 more games if they try to win. So this is cheating the system. Bad teams suppose to get bigger chance to top picks not teams sitting their stars.
