No one has any clue what would have happened in two years. He was quite literally the best rookie in his class, got injured, and was just now coming back from injury. He could have easily fought for a starting spot in the next year, VJ certainly didn’t look up to par shooting wise tonight. I truly don’t get what your point is, there was no need to move on from Jared or Grimes, Jared is still effectively a rookie and he’s not complained about his minutes whatsoever.

And if they did (they didn’t) have to trade Jared, they could’ve gotten a player back. Ousmane Dieng had to be dumped for OKC to make room for Jared, and he’s already contributing for Milwaukee. Cam Thomas was a free agent, he’s contributing too. Jose Alvarado could’ve been had for basically nothing, but the Knicks were proactive enough to do that. Landale was dumped, he could easily have been acquired, would’ve filled a backup C role and also somehow have been one of their better stretch shooters.

They’re going to have to hit big in the buyout market otherwise this team is fucked if they have an injury to any of their guards. They have, BY FAR, the worst coach in the league, he is completely inflexible and cannot get the best out of his players. He is overly reliant on star talent and uses completely outdated schemes on both ends. The GM doesn’t give a shit about anything but crypto and supporting colour revolutions, and the owner is a pedophile.

He gets his shot off so quickly, it’s incredible. If he can just put forth effort to close out hard and try to stay in front of his man on defense, he’ll fit in just fine even if he isn’t a lockdown guy. I can totally see him growing into an Isaiah Joe type player

I actually have been pleasantly surprised with his defense! He’s gotten a few impressive steals (not fake ones, heads up/on ball hustle plays), and he’s gotten a ton of good defensive stops in the few minutes he plays per game

He’ll never be an elite defender, but he’s already shown a willingness to stick his nose into the play and try to make something happen. It helps that he has Caruso, Cason, Dort, Chet, iHart, etc to cover for any mistakes. With the Thunder’s coaches and learning from his teammates, I think he can be a perfectly average defender in OKC’s scheme. And with what he brings on offense, that would make him a steal.

They badly need defense and two-way forwards more than shooting, and they can’t afford McCain with their assets. Luka, Lebron, Reaves is enough for offense. And McCain being a better defender than Luka doesn’t mean he will be a defensive guard that can slide perfectly alongside Luka or Reaves to cover for their defense.

I agree with you, but Lakers has limited assets that every move(especially those that involves FRPs) that they need to make should be a part of that solution to fix their biggest weakness which is defense. Plus, they got Kennard for cheap and he is a better fit for what they are trying to build.

Basically, McCain should be better down the line especially considering his rookie contract. But, Kennard for SRPs and Cardio Gabe is a better move for them rather than spending their FRP for McCain.
