Something needs to go right for the Kings. The Hali trade quickly went from win-win to a disaster. The Fox-Sabonis duo had a single 1st round exit and then Fox bolted to a much more promising situation in San Antonio. They’ve had a couple of decent draftees, but no one with star potential. Not to mention that one unforgivable draft blunder.

That said, the Kings will almost certainly get a very good prospect this draft. The expiring contracts of Lavine and DeRozan after next season give them options to be active in the trade market. If their draft pick instantly looks like a future superstar then they could even become players in 2027 free agency to land a 2nd star.

Things can get better.
