Should’ve won MVP over Steph in 14-15 too, Dwight was out like most of the season and he single handedly carried that team to the second best record in the league with a coach that opening said he hated Harden lol The fact that Kevin McHale goofy ass ruined the Wolves and somehow find a way to get the Rockets head coach job is beyond me.
He dragged a roster comprised of Pat Bev, Corey Brewer, Josh Smith, D-Mo, Terrence Jones and Dwight’s corpse to 56 wins. They’d be frontrunners for the lottery without him, the amount of disrespect he has received for dragging teams to places they don’t even belong is insane.
I think most of the guys on that roster was like out of the league in a year or 2 after they left the Rockets, and that was the year they got a players voted MVP, he won that, it’s always the media and the fans constantly disrespecting him, players in the league all knew how good Harden is.
I mean I literally had to go look up who was on the roster even though I watched most of those games back then. He made G Leaguers look like NBA players.
Looking bad, Harden’s PR was insanely bad. You have basketball nerds who thinks his style of basketball is inefficient, and you have casuals who thinks all he does is foulbait. But, hoopers know how much you could learn from watching Harden and applying it to your game.

D-Mo was legitimately our 2nd best player that year. Like think of how insane that is to get the 2-seed with him as your #2.
He shouldn’t have won it over Steph. The warriors went from a 6th seed to a monster team and it’s largely because he was leading the pack. There was also a significant gap between them and the rest of the 7 playoffs teams. Their per 75 stats are almost similar, even though Harden did carry a bigger load.

Narratives are a powerful thing. I’ve always been a Harden fan but felt a similar thing with Joel Embiid.
Obviously I recognized he was great but watching him every night and rooting for him makes you appreciate a players game differently. People acted like he’s an unbearable grifter when he played like a 7ft Kobe lol.

he has some of the best hands to ever come through the league and is constantly getting steals and deflections, and he’s pretty big for a guard so he also gets more blocks than you might expect. that combined with the fact that he’s a legitimately strong post defender makes him someone whose weaknesses you can compensate for, at the very least

I love that this pass is a genuine tactic now. Used to be a crazy thing like what are you thinking but then people realized it’s actually a really good way to release the roller with a man on your hip. Obviously still very difficult but they practice it now. One of my favorite things about Harden is that he’s always on the cutting edge of new basketball strategies and skills. Pushes the envelope
