despite high expectations, the Orlando Magic have ranked in the bottom 10 in offensive rating for the 14th straight season
The Orlando Magic have had a prolonged struggle on the offensive side of the court, dating all the way back to the firing of Stan Van Gundy in 2012.
In fact, since then, they’ve never had a top 20 offensive rating (according to basketball-reference). When there are only 30 teams in the league, that’s difficult to do.
That streak appeared destined to finally be broken this year, as the rising team added a sharpshooter in Desmond Bane. Unfortunately, the offense is still semi-clogged. The Magic are still only shooting 34.0% from three as a team (dead last in the league) and still only rank 21st in offense. (I imagine this may change later on, but that means it’s a good time to break out this ol’ stat!)
