I never realized the importance of good commentators until I watched the Lakers–Bulls game with the Bulls’ home commentators. They easily made the game more enjoyable

I disagree. I want more national broadcasts where an announcer openly pulls for one team and gets called out by another announcer.

Reminder that Austin Rivers is statistically one of the worst players to ever play in the NBA for at least 400 games. If you go look at almost any career statistical trailers (which is like the anti leaderboards) he is almost always at the top of them. He has the 4th worst career PER, 7th worst box plus minus, and 16th worst win shares/48 mins. And that is out of like 1000 players who qualify

I didn’t watch the game but is Austin Rivers worse than Reggie Miller or Doris Burke for the Lakers? In a recent game, Reggie mentioned Lebron was 41 years old like 70 times and probably said “how does he do this at 41” like 16 times.

It’s the same thing with Doris. When she commentates with someone like Mike Breen, it usually goes “Come on, Mike, how does it he do it at 41?”. Or it’s something like “I see you Austin Reaves - taking it strong to the hole and finishing with aggression” This is during a game where Lakers lose by like 20+ points.

As if Doc Rivers terrorizing the Bucks isn’t enough, his son wants to extend the terrorism to the unfortunate fans that have to listen to his commentary.

This is not an exaggeration. It was truly as bad as it gets. The other guy even asked if he was cheering for the Lakers lmao.

The general consensus here is that Adam Silver specifically rigs the league for OKC for whatever reason despite there being no statistical evidence pointing to it at all and it just being based off of vibes/“eye test”

Meanwhile the Lakers for 4 straight years now consistently get way more free throws compared to literally every other team with extremely varied roster constructions and somehow that’s not as bad as OKC

SGA shooting 9 free throws a game makes him worse than Harden but Luka shooting 11 a game despite taking way more threes and having a way less rim-centric shot diet is perfectly fine

Again, no commentator should do that in a sport with integrity. But after the Aspiration and Kalshi stuff it’s kinda clear that there’s not really integrity in this sport, everybody has money on everything, and imo the commentary will likely be more mask off in a few years to reflect it. Same way ads seeped into everything, people’s biases will come to the surface until there’s no point in hiding it. Commentators and refs included.

My problem is more of the fact that they cut away from live action for so long that the Thunder inbounded the ball, dribbled it down the court, and somehow commited a turnover before they cut back to the action. What was so important? A random Rivers hit that had nothing to do with the game.

I truly do not see what broadcasters or fans see in Austin Rivers. He was abysmal and obviously pulling for the Lakers all night. Oftentimes having a former NBAer is good because they give cool insights you wouldn’t otherwise get, but Rivers doesn’t even give those.

Even Ian Eagle can’t save this trio.

I was listening to this while at work and I kid you not I thought we were down big at the end of the first because it was like 80-90% lakers talk and about 5% dunk contest talk with a dash of thunder commentary.

I liked it, felt more natural and casual than the usual national tv stuff. Idk about calling a playoff game like that but a monday night game it was nice.

then you don’t know the lakers’ actual commentators at all. that line works for a lot of teams but not the lakers.

The national televised commentator teams glaze the Lakers, it’s so obvious. Every year the Lakers are discussed whether good, bad or indifferent. Whereas other teams need to be top 3 in their conference to be discussed if they’re a small market team. The exceptions now being OKC and Denver due to their recent titles.

It’s the same with Reggie Miller, so biased.
