The organizations, maybe even the coach, are trying to lose. I don’t think the players are, though. The interest for most of these guys is getting new contracts and continuing to play basketball. Intentionally playing poorly is going to bite them in the ass when it comes time to negotiate or sign new contracts. Especially since a lot of the guys on tanking teams will inevitably get traded once the team actually wants to compete for playoff spots. Their top priority isn’t getting high draft picks since those draft picks will almost always take their spots and minutes in the rotation.

Bam has had such a quiet decline. He’s obviously not washed, but age 28 is usually when most players are at their peak.

Just doesn’t play like a 50 million dollar a year player. And never really did. Heat thought he would evolve into that and he showed those flashes, but this is it for him.

- he’s actually taking more shots per minute than any point in his career, while also shooting 2 more 3pm than he did the year before. Its actually tanked his efficiency and he was never the most efficient big to begin with
- it’s also wiped out his assist rate. he’s averaging the least amount of assists since his 2nd season in the league
There’s some nuance to these stats though.
Bam has never been a shot blocker necessarily, he makes getting the shot off hell for those he defends but you have to remember he’s an undersized C.
The assist going down is more due to the fact we’ve moved away from screens and thus we’ve moved away from the dribble hand off threes, where Duncan Robinson, now in Detroit, especially thrived with Bam, which inflated Bam’s assist a ton. We don’t run those plays anymore, honestly to what seems to be Bam’s happiness, so his assist stat lost its main contributing play.
His shooting has always been inconsistent so I’ll agree with you there. Goes back to him being undersized I think, seemingly causes him to settle for jumpers instead of attacking the rim, so he’s taking less efficient shots.
