Complete conjecture, but I’m assuming they’re waiting for a final verdict on the Aspiration case. No point in trading someone of Kawhi Leonard’s caliber right now for scraps when you could theoretically get a much larger haul for him this Summer if he’s cleared of everything. Especially if he manages to finish this season healthy.

They are still trying to be competitive, Clippers gain nothing from tanking. The team is not rebuilding, they are retooling whether they do it around Kawhi or not, we will figure this out in the summer.

The hesitation in continuing the relationship probably comes from the other end. Clippers may have finally found religion and are thinking twice about giving Kawhi another long term extension.

He’s said this but he’s never actually been on a bad team until this year. They might’ve been fake contenders a couple of the years but they’ve always had an obvious case for the playoffs. Now they’re moving towards developing young guys until the next star comes to town so we’ll see if that was true.

KD is a close comparison but has still been healthier than Kawhi these past few seasons. Also funny how you could almost swap the Green and Brooks descriptions around based on how this season has played out lol.

To be clear, I think Jalen Green had neutral value at best. Both Brooks and the pick had more value. I think Kawhi could go for filler, a mid prospect, and maybe a couple mid first round picks at most.

It comes down to health. Rn Kawhi is better than KD for the simple fact that he’s three years younger. The problem is his right knee. He hasn’t had issues with it this season but he has had three major injuries on it in the last five years.

I still remember in ‘24 we looked like world beaters for two months then one day he randomly appeared on the injury report, didn’t play for the next few WEEKS, finally came back in the Playoffs in games 2 and 3 against the Mavs looking like a shell of himself who couldn’t even land after a dunk. Then they shut him down and he didn’t play again the next season until January I think.

All that to say, that knee can present inflammation out of nowhere and take him out for months. And imo he’d probably need to go a couple straight years fully healthy for it not to impact his trade value.

I think they are waiting untill after the allstar game to rule on it because the game is in the Clipper’s building and the league wants their cash grab untainted.

The allegations are serious and I think the other owners will demand repercussions.

Brook is absolutely cooked. This will be his last year in the league. Zubac is a legit player. 

Sort of both. Zu is obviously the better player but this roster is so short on shooting and ball handling that Brook is actually a better fit. But given his age, it’s a short term solution, and they’ve already signaled that they’re trying to do a soft rebuild.

Clippers don’t control their draft picks so their version of blowing it up isn’t going to look like other teams version of blowing it up. They’re not going to tank. They’re going to reload - picking up potentially useful players and draft picks - with the goal of being competitive but not necessarily with the expectation that they’re going to be good enough to win a title any time soon.

Clippers basically got a sell high offer they couldnt refuse after they traded Harden.

Clippers really only had two decent picks since 2010 where they got Shai and Jerome Robinson. They got offered a 50% chance at pick 5-9 in a strong draft along with other assets.

I really like Brook. I mean he’s not great or good, but you can see him really open up the floor with his shooting which gives space to guys like Harden.

Also added bonus he looks like he’s moving in molasses. Guy is like the slowest guy on the court but sometimes gets in position to block shots randomly. Its really neat to watch.
