In a debate about NFL vs NBA things gets heated on Jeff Teague’s 520 podcast.
Tried to take it personal with Zaire, but Jeff didn’t say a peep to SGA’s dad when he said he would breed Jeff’s wife.
bruh i still cant believe he said that lmao
I know I’m going to get downvoted for this lmao, BUT I don’t think SGA’s dad comment was that crazy with context, he probably just shouldn’t have said it to Teague, a black american dude from Indiana.
In Jamaican/Carribean culture (most black people in Toronto are Carribean), that’s not really a crazy thing to say. Thats like a joke I’ve heard a few times from older jamaican unc’s. I can’t really explain it fully, but yes SGA’s dad should not have said that, but I don’t think he meant harm.
there is no culture in the world where “i could bang your wife, if you want” is a fine thing to say to someone.
I also think specifically using the word “breed” is fucking yikes.
You breed cattle and shit. I get that it’s a kink for some people but you can’t just say shit like that like it’s normal.
I literally said he shouldn’t have said it. But a lot of Jamaican uncs make this joke.
Got downvoted as expected lmao, as this is reddit, but if you haven’t been around the wild shit Carribean people say sometimes you wouldn’t understand.
Ain’t gonna lie, I’ve been around a lot of Caribbean folks but I’ve never heard that one. Partially because that’s some crazy shit to say outside of folks you know lol. Even if it is a thing within that culture, that shit stays there.
I also think it’s funny to be like: “of course close minded Reddit is against breeding other people’s wives.” Yeah man that’s weird on Reddit’s part.
100% that should stay within our culture, Carribeans and Jamaicans are just mad sexual when it comes to jokes and casual speaking.
I was just trying to give context that I don’t think he really meant harm, he was just kinda ignorant in the situation. Even on Gil’s pod he was using Toronto/Jamaican lingo, so it more so just that, he was just ingorant, but I don’t think he’s a bad guy.
I didn’t mean its reddits fault, its kinda just expected given the type of users on the platform.
My mom’s side is from Trinidad and they say a lot of crazy shit, but no fucking way any uncs saying this shit to someone’s face at least lmao.
Breed is like Jamaican uncs favorite word at least up here in Toronto lmao
Yea I believe you, but I’m pretty sure these are fighting words if someone said that to someone’s face down there. I don’t live there but do love visiting, always a wild ride haha.
Man, what type of cuckery is this? Lol
Word I get where you’re coming from.
Appreciate it bro lmao stay blessed
[deleted]
On your way to becoming a true Jamaican🙏
Lived on two islands for two years Jamaica being one of them. Never heard one man tell another he was going to bust a load in his wife’s pussy. In fact I witnessed more petty argument fighting while in the Caribbean a lot of times over girls that aren’t even married or engaged so there is no chance that shit would fly. Maybe in pussy town where you live but no race especially not Jamaican is taking that. I know because I lived there for a year
Yall carribean bros move like that? I’m from Nicaragua and it’s an automatic fade with whoever at that point
Im from Louisiana and we dont play like that essay
Bro as a person from JA thats a garbage take. Dude is probably some kid who dont know the culture and doesn’t understand shit
Possibility for a fade given the context but, sexual lingo and context is normalized. Saying the word breed is some signature Jamaican shit.
I don’t think SGA’s dad realized what he was saying.
You don’t think he realized he said he wanted to fuck his wife
Can you contextualize it bro, im trying to wrap my head around it. We Nicaraguans are ball-busters to the 10 degree to the point where not all friends, but I have heard dudes mentioning mom’s in a vulgar way but that only happens with people are vulgar and disrespectful themselves
What the fuck are you talking about?🤣 This is in reference to the word “breed”, how is Tee Morant’s name getting brought up?
You dont know shit
I call my friends all types of insults yet I am socially aware enough to know that’s not how you talk to people you don’t even know and no context of me doing that with my friends would make it less crazy to do it publicly like that.
Teague tried to play it off like he didn’t realize what was said. He knew but honestly it was clearly a joke and he took it that way. He only backtracked because of the social media outrage and I’m sure his girl also made him say something different but we all saw and heard that he really wasn’t tripping off it in the moment Lmao
Damn
link for anyone else who hadn’t seen it
That shit was so unbelievably out of pocket.
I would’ve said that if I was Za’ lmao. Mf’s wanna be petty & laugh?, LETS LAUGH!!!
that’s because sga’s dad’s comment was objectively based/funny
Man I really like this show, put it on in the background every day at work. This was some corny ass shit from Jeff. Made the whole show unlistenable because of how awkward it was.
He had the same energy as Joe Buddens when he walked off on Migos
lmfaoooo damn that’s spot on
Same feeling. Skipped today’s episode after 5 minutes of disrespect
what are they supposed to be debating??
Zaire was saying the nfl is more popular even without big stars while Jeff was saying nba players are more known and then Zaire said once LeBron retires the nba is over and jeff started to ragebait 😭
Kinda. Teague said the Superbowl sucked because there weren’t any “stars.” Then he started getting weird saying no one watches football. Started disrespecting NFL players, etcetera. He was tweaking before LeBron was even brought up. Probably one of the worst sports takes I’ve ever seen. It’s like 20 to 30 minutes of this.
I mean NBA players are only more known because it’s 12 guys on a team and they don’t wear helmets. The NFL is definitely the bigger league
NFL might be bigger in the US, but NBA is way bigger internationally. “The NBA holds a significantly higher global viewership and popularity compared to the NFL, boasting roughly 2.4 billion fans worldwide against the NFL’s 410 million.”
Yeah, I live in Europe and the NBA has a wayyy bigger presence than the NFL. None of my friends or colleagues even knew the Super Bowl was this weekend (if they even knew what the Super Bowl is), let alone either of the teams involved.
Yes, while the NFL has basically no footprint outside of the US… its footprint in the US is so massive it’s hard to grasp. For instance, of the top 15 most valuable sport franchises across all sports, on earth, NFL teams account for 9 of them.
I grew up in Philly and went to a ton of Eagles games. I understand how big the NFL is in the US. My point is that this is the height of the NFL’s popularity. They have nowhere to go from here. No one seems to care about the league outside the country in any meaningful way. Meanwhile, the basketball is becoming more and more of a global sport. The NBA has a ton of room to grow in terms of global audience if they do things right. The biggest obstacle for the NBA is the starting time of the games. That 1:00pm EST that the NFL has is ideal.
The NBA does not have 2.4 billion dedicated fans unless we’re looking at it in terms of people who might like a clip that pops up in their IG feed. Nor does the NFL have 410 million.
Only a small chunk of the international crowd that has an affinity for the NBA brand are actually watching games regularly. People who follow the NFL generally watch the games.
Fans in the context above, means viewers. And NBA is a much bigger global league. NFL and football in general is a US centric sport for the most part.
Obviously the NBA is a bigger international brand. The NBA does not have 2.4 billion people watching the finals or something, the number is complete nonsense. The 2022 world cup final had 1.5 billion viewers.
It is yearly viewers bruh.
The NBA is not garnering 2.4 billion viewers per year for actual games man. The UCL can’t even do that. Social media impressions and hard viewership are not the same thing.
Do they mean cumulatively rather than individually because I agree 30% of the world isn’t watching a single NBA game in a season
Possibly, have to account for China, where the NBA is huge and of course they have a gigantic population.
On a per game basis, the NFL generates way more impressions than the NBA even if you include internationals.
Just compare Superbowl viewership to NBA Finals viewership, the NFL is 5x including international markets.
The only reason the NBA generates more impressions is that they play 82 games a season, just pure volume over the NFL.
You can also just look at team values and revenues to come to the same conclusion.
That’s the argument I always hear but the thing is, the nfl is the most popular league by the widest of margins, in the most powerful country. The nba is more popular outside but its not the main sport in alot of those countries.
There are 330 mil people who play basketball in China, not just watch I mean play.
That is not the NBA. It would be relevant if they did watch the NBA.
It’s an obvious leap in logic that many of these people are nba fans. Go watch vid of Harden showing up at a mall there they insane for nba.
But they watch the games no?
what path to being a fan do international people have for the nfl?
It’s also because NFL players careers are so short where if you’re a decent NBA player you can last at least 4-5 years.
What ?
Nba stars are international stars, nfl stars are american stars
…in America. One of the reasons they have a hard time expanding overseas is because they don’t have a reason to care about the differences between different feline-themed teams.
NBA franchises when winning chip, they called themselves world champions, with exception of Spurs(they are correct), Very low number of people here in Europe knows that yesterday was Superbowl and usually do not know anything and anybody from NFL. NFL cannot be better for that reason basketball is probably second sport in the world and you have competition with different mentality and skillset from players of all positions from all the world.
nothing you said has anything to do with the fact the NFL is more popular by every available metric. there has never been a year where the nba finals were as popular as the superbowl
the most watched nba game ever was in 1998 and drew 38 million people, a thanksgiving day NFL game drew 57 million
I’ve always seen it as the NFL is the more popular sport (by far) and the NBA players are more popular (by far). A LOT of people would not recognize most NFL players (outside of a few QBs) if they ran into them randomly. Including the superstars. NBA stars would get recognized regularly
If you are 6’2 270lb, you can just lie that you are a starting OL in the NFL and you’d get a lot of people to believe you. If you are 6’6 220 and you say you’re in the NBA, you’ll have to say you are a bench player who barely plays on the Utah Jazz to pass the smell test. No offense to the Jazz, I just figured most NBA fans haven’t watched many Jazz games.
nah you’re 100% correct except for top tier qbs rly
This is so true. I was never more convinced that the NFL players have zero leverage and nobody cares about them after they tried to strike in 1987 and they just ran replacement players out there and the stands were still full. Americans love the NFL. The world loves NBA players.
Nobody cares about any player in the NFL. They could have ran two high school teams out there last night and the viewership would have been exactly the same as long as they were still wearing Seahawk and Patriot laundry.
You can’t do that in the NBA. Cause in 1992 we ran our pros to the Olympics and the scenes looked like when the Beatles came to America.
maybe in USA, not in the world
ratings are garnered from a global audience. the sport of basketball is more popular the nba is not.
NBA is more popular than NFL in pretty much every country in Europe, probably in other contintets similar
and yet all of that combined does not come close to nfl viewership numbers.
again im literally saying europeans dont watch football yet the NFL is still clearly and inarguably more popular than the nba. it makes more money, has higher viewership and the teams are worth more on average.
Viewership needs some context here. NFL is on local channels which makes it accessible to anyone that wants to watch. I’d argue the majority of people who watch NBA just watch pirated streams be it in the U.S. or globally.
The NBA still has much bigger reach overseas and is pretty much the more popular league and sport over the NFL in pretty much every country outside of the U.S.
Lol yeah he’s talking about internationally and yeah the NBA had a head start and did a good job spreading the game. Within the US, the NFL will always be king
I’m not talking about internationally. The NFL hasn’t tried to spread American football seriously until pretty recent. I’ll give the NBA that, they did a great job bringing awareness to the game globally. I’m talking about within the United States. American football is and will always be king here. Growing up NFL Sunday was a huge thing for my family. Mom cooking some dinner and me and my father in front the big screen watching games all day. I knew what I was doing every Sunday
The NFL tried the World League in the 90s
In my opinion I think the selection of bad bunny at the halftime show is NFLs attempt at possibly going global due to their jealousy of the NBA.
https://theathletic.com/3668558/2022/10/25/world-football-league-history/?amp=1
They tried already and failed
Who is this Zaire guy? I’m not American nor follow or even care about NFL. Is he a big name? I don’t think I can name one current NFL star other than Taylor Swifts boyfriend? NFL still that popular? It so boring.
I’ll I heard was “bro bro bro bro come on. “. They were having a conversation ?
Zaire isn’t a star. He’s a good player that plays for Indianapolis and has a podcast so that’s probably why he’s featured so much.
As for the popularity of the NFL, it’s far and away the most popular sport here. Only college football comes close. I agree with you it’s kinda boring to actually watch, but the storylines and story telling are amazing and I wish basketball would find a way to implement it
Thanks for info. I do want more stories as well. Something also Hockey seems to do better as well.
I think if they had less games and gave more importance to division rivalries it would do wonders for basketball. Not sure if that’s how it works for hockey.
From when I did watch the NHL all the time it was. I find the same in baseball but the season has too many games so it washes it out kinda. Olympics gives it but it’s once every couple of years. What ya gonna do 🤷♂️
Is the dude a big deal like he thinks he is? Googling doesn’t help as all I see is he fumbles a lot?
Why did you even comment then…
Weird Superiority complex but okay.
So I can get context on the clip posted on why he is going off. That’s all.
ohhh I see lol
It depends if we count China or not if we are Zaire is full of it.
He’s saying that the NFL has no stars and that’s why the Super Bowl (and this season) sucked, to him.
Then he tries to rage bait Zaire.
Being honest, Zaire can be a dickhead on these podcasts but he kept it respectful for the most part in his argument with Jeff. Jeff took it hard when Zaire says something like “let’s argue like adults not kids.”
I don’t think Zaire is a dickhead on the pod at all. He doesn’t attack basketball until teague disrespects football. This has been going on all season, it just got way too serious because Teague was being a weirdo, getting personal, and making awful arguments.
I didn’t mean Zaire is a dickhead towards Teague, I meant overall he can come across as one on just the various topics from time to time.
I agree that Teague was completely off base and acting weird on the podcast though, and Zaire was in the right and trying to be as respectful as possible IMO.
Fair. I don’t have that opinion of Zaire on this show. Maybe because he’s surrounded by dickheads. I feel like he’s genuine, and asks questions when he doesn’t understand something instead of just straight up shitting on things like they do with football, baseball, and the wnba.
Off topic, but the way that the co-hosts (specifically B-Hen) shit on women and the wnba all the time is lame, yet they are never on that type of timing when they have a guest who plays in the latter.
B hen is hilarious, but he does say a lot of shit I don’t vibe with. I hated them covering women’s basketball teams losing by 60, but then they never have the same energy when it happens on the men’s side. They were up there just straight up lying saying it never happens in the men’s game. They made fun of the W having a best of 3, but said nothing when they were covering the mlb playoffs.
Don’t get me started on DJ “there’s a word I want to say that I can’t say on here” Wells.
DJ “elite” Wells
Yeah that’s fair too. He pops his shit when he talks about football sometimes, and it comes across a little egotistical to me but I do agree, he tries to find common ground often.
Oh yeah, you’re right about the football part. He’s always telling a story about punking somebody. He really don’t fw linemen, because he gives props to everyone else.
Teague has been throwing little shots at the nfl and Zaire’s own personal career all year. He took it too far today when he intentionally got his name wrong and basically called him a bum. Then he got mad when Zaire reminded he’s got more accolades than Teague does in the league.
Jeff is a self-admitted asshole, which can be funny or annoying depending on what side of the fence he’s on. If you watch the show, you know he takes little digs at Zaire and football often, it’s always in jest though.
Idk if he’s still drunk or what, but he’s never gone that hard/personal about it. I respect how Zaire handled it. Hopefully his boys holla at him after the show because he was doing too much
Jeff is funny and runs a good show but he’s crazy insecure lmao. He tries to play it off like he didn’t really care when he was in the league, and that’s probably partly true, but it’s so weak to go after someone’s career then cower back behind the “I didn’t even care” shit
I think he really don’t care about it like that and that’s why he’ll even usually joke on himself but the thing is when people try to genuinely talk down on him THEN it becomes a problem for him. Almost like he gotta let em know they got him fucked up. He definitely was mid but it takes a lot of talent to even be a mediocre NBA player
And for Jet, he wasn’t even mediocre. He was a 1x All Star. He was above average. Boy talented.
Though he obviously regressed to below average / mediocre towards the later part.
Zaire was all pro
Yeah and? Never said he wasn’t good.
It’s like that Jim Rome clip where he calls Jim Everett “Chris” repeatedly.
You can’t have a guest on and fuck up their name intentionally.
This is even worse because Zaire is more than a guest, he makes a regular weekly appearance. His name and jersey are hanging in the background right behind Jeff
One day people will understand … NBA players are a lot more known outside of the USA, most don’t even know a NFL team lol.
I never see a NFL jersey on my country, but NBA i see it everyday.
That’s not really what the argument was about though.
And even then, the NFL as a league has always been more about the teams than the players in terms of fandom. There’s way more player fans in the NBA than football.
This is what I was gonna say. NFL has loyal team fans, NBA has loyal player fans. My friend is a huge Pats fan, and she did not follow Brady going to the Bucs, but how many Lebron fans jump to Miami, back to Cleveland, then LA?
The most valuable sports team in the world is the Dallas Cowboys and haven’t won a title in 30 years, not even a conference game appearance, but their fans are hella loyal which is why they are worth so much.
Sure but NFL is by far a more popular league.
“I could be” lol Jeff mad corny as hell for this. Man’s ego couldn’t let him just say my bad and or apologize smh
Don’t know what’s happening here, but Jeff Teague the typa guy who never knows how and when to shut up, probably gotten hiss ass beat for it a lot in his life
That’s NBA Champion Jeff Teague to you!
Yes jeff teague the 6’3 nba super athlete has been getting his ass beat his whole life. its clearly the opposite. a dude that hasnt got his ass beat would be the one talking like this. regardless jeff is just trolling but when youre in a bubble surrounded by yes men you usually end up talking like this and being hella disrespectful even if he was trolling
How many dudes you know are beating up 6’3” world class athletes?
He’s a old retired basketball player not a ufc champion lol
So? Do you know many 6’3” world class athletes in your day to day life?
If so, would you fight any of them? Do you know anyone else in your life that could “beat their ass”?
Point is, most NBA stars are people that in general others dont fuck with.
They are tall & athletic.
That’s what you wish were reality in your fantasy. The truth is he’s 6’3 and was athletic all his life, rides on 24 inch chromes and stacks paper to the ceiling flexing on broke boys like you
You could’ve stopped after saying he was 6’3 and athletic. The rest just makes you look like a fan girl
You just didn’t catch the reference
Malcolm is that you?
Ernie Johnson
Jeff can be so petty for no damn reason. This clip was so annoying.
Hate to see this, I rock with both the guys. L for Indy sports.
People think it’s funny to be disrespectful till the tables are turned and then they wanna cry, Teague is a bitch
this was hilarious
do they know that a podcast should be coherent to the listeners? people doing podcast should really do the bare minimum and try not to talk over each other like 3rd grade kids.
their whole podcast is like that, that’s the only podcast I felt I couldn’t understand what they were saying as a foreigner, the tone, voice, articulation, talking over the other is unbearable…then on the content side they will say legit 2 sentences on one topic and move to a random one, yet on YouTube segment they will still say that whole segment of ~10 mins is about those two sentences (high tier clickbait), basketball analysis I don’t think people come for it so whatever
Jeff disrespectful….
I wonder how many listeners all these podcasts actually get
I guess nobody thinks preference of the actual sport matters? At the end of the day people will watch what they like to watch, not what’s plated the best.
I don’t watch Jeff League because I feel from his podcast persona that he doesn’t care about being great at basketball as much as others, or helping out the next generation, or much outside of talking shit about people for comedy. He seems more like sour grapes over not winning much. Considering he’s not a professional comedian I end up not liking it much compared to other productions
Boooo this podcast BOOOOOOO
Always take what Zaire says with a grain of salt. That dude is a certified nerd & that’s coming from someone who had to unfortunately watch his ass play every Sunday for the last two seasons
Jeff hands either rivals that of Goku or he’s wanted buddy too put hands on’em.
They both sound like clowns. One’s an asshole and the other is insecure af
If you’re giving up your time to be on someone’s show and they call you by the wrong name and then double down that’s a pretty fair reason to be annoyed. I don’t know what happened before or after but Teague deserved to be called out here.
He’s being rage baited and he fell for it completely
“Jokes on you, I’m just pretended to be an asshole.”
Yeah? That doesn’t make it less disrespectful.
I didn’t say it wasn’t disrespectful. There’s more than one way to respond to disrespect and crashing out is usually the worst
This was far from a crash out.
Eh at the same time you gotta stand up for yourself. He didn’t get physical or call Jeff out of his name at all. He firmly told him what was up. Like if this is crashing out now then we’re cooked altogether.
Disrespecting someone as a joke is still disrespecting them. Especially when you’re joking about their career and accolades.
Normal stuff where I’m from.. probably were cool after everything was said and done…
Zaire is in his feelings because his career is looking into a sunset. His D has been trash.
yall take the show so seriously. most of yall don’t have friends and it shows
You’re right in that it’s usually some light banter, but it’s clear Jeff was being especially disrespectful to Z today. His take isn’t even that absurd, but the disrespect isn’t necessary. Anybody in Z’s shoes would be hot.
Look at Mr popular here with friends and everything.
A lot of off the field NFL roid raging over the last few days.
Roid raging?
Teague intentionally gets his name wrong. I would expect anybody to get mad at that kinda shit.
Maybe we shouldn’t be saying that as a sport that contains Draymond Green.
