[Injury] Johnny Furphy finishes with a powerful dunk and gets injured upon landing, and then carried to the locker room on a wheelchair (with replays). Tyrese Haliburton is praying.
season from hell
No matter what else happens on the court, we can all agree that player injuries are the absolute worst thing that can happen. Wishes of good health from a Knicks fan!
especially when its a young player, its just the worst
Agreed.
One thing that changed my outlook on sports forever was after watching Greg Oden’s injuries derail what could have been a fantastic career. Roy’s injuries hurt more in the long run but they were off screen, while it seemed like every one of Oden’s setbacks were on center stage. Injuries suck.
How was furph playing this year? I imagine he was getting some more playing time but I heard that he’s just been okay. Can any pacers fans chime in?
Clearly still developing but also clearly playing winning basketball.
I imagine that Furphy’s development made trading Mathurin an easier decision for the front office.
He has been starting consistently since Christmas as either a small ball big, or at the 3 (and it has gone surprisingly well tbh). In our current reality with Obi out and the team committing to developing young guys, he’s been a handy 5th starter because he doesn’t need (or want) the ball in his hands and will just rebound and defend and run and that’s it. Running him next to Siakam has been one of the biggest ‘oh cool, that works’ that we’ve found this year.
He’s a bit like Ben Sheppard where he, to a fault, will take the easy/most efficient option every time on offense. He only shoots wide open 3s and shots at the rim. He’s taken like 1 midrange shot in his entire career to this point.
Yall deserve better than this man
Pacers 🤝 Grizzlies
(I’m tired boss)
Naw bruh just from dunking like that crazy
I mean he landed so stiff legged though…it’s a split second thing which fucking sucks.
Similar to Jimmy
Blame it on all of these shoes with way too much traction
What shoes was he wearing?
It’s the Derrick Rose landing that they’re teaching people not to land like anymore
You know that’s the Paul Pierce wheelchair right
Are you trying to say it’s a shitty situation?
We can only hope
Wait!? What??
Fucking devastating. Hopefully a healthy recovery and the lads back out there better than ever!
It really sucks for him. He has some athletic dunks so hopefully he can come back with the same spring in his step.
Best case scenario is probably a very painful bone bruise.
Hopefully it’s that and not the dreaded knee torn ligaments.
Portland Eric Maynor flair is crazy
it was a pretty soft landing too all things considered
pacers r just cursed, they deserve the top 3 pick theyre getting
I think part of the problem is that he landed sideways on his feet. If he’d landed in a forward direction, he could have stumbled safely without even thinking about it, but our legs aren’t really designed to maintain forward momentum in a sideways direction.
Or something like that.
You’re a 100% right. That was the exact reason why that injury occured.
I get wat ur saying but that’s a landing these guys do every single day in practice. It’s a pretty normal landing and for whatever reason this time it was enough to cause injury
It’s increasing risk. Imagine landing forward (normal) as risking an injury 1⁄100000 while landing sideways is like 1⁄1000.
It’s a pretty normal landing
I really question that.
When you’re that tall and going up that high, I really don’t think you want to be landing sideways with forward momentum, on a regular basis. The legs just aren’t built for that.
Landing poorly is also what killed Derrick Rose’s career, over time. What seemed ‘normal’ for his coaches and trainers obviously wasn’t, in the end.
Fuckin hate this. He was on the up’n’up too…
Reminds me of how Klay tore his ACL. Ugh.
Shoes are cursed and I’ll never stop saying it
Which shoes?
I think he’s wearing Haliburton’s signature shoes.
Yeah damn. Kind of leaving us hanging here…
Edit: He wears the Puma Halis
Yes
These ones: https://www.gq.com/story/tyrese-haliburton-hali-1-puma-signature-shoes
At this point I’m wondering if that’s not the case
Shoes not the cause of that. It’s the stiff leg landing. It’s almost as if he felt like he didn’t jump as high so he didn’t need to brace his fall.
unlikely
The way he grabbed the front of his leg/knee makes me think ACL. Sucks bro.
First look… doesn’t look too bag. 2nd look, clearly ACL or knee. Shades of jimmy butler
Damn you never wanna see thatÂ
Hope it’s not seriousÂ
It’s crazy how a single play can completely derail a career (not saying that’s what’s happened). Hope it’s not too major
Either ACL or patellar tendon :( brutal
damn i like this dude fuckkkkk. hate to see anyone injured, especially young guys.
Fuck sakes can we have any luck
Hopefully it’s not a patellar tear
Damn, I love our commentators but it took them a little too long to get the right tone for the situation here.
Ugh. I truly hate this for him. I also was hoping Furphy would be in the Dunk Contest which looks to be the worst lineup in the history of the contest. I think he could have been the Mac McClung of this year’s contest. Prayers up for Furph for a quick recovery.
yeah his knee is toast
Everyone always talks about landing mechanics as if they themselves have anywhere near the level of athleticism that these dudes have. You only get so many jumps, landings, and falls throughout your life. With a lot of players it’s just a matter of time unfortunately.
That’s crazy given how normal and routine that landing is.
Devestated brothers
wtf the commentator doing at 0:20
Fark
Damn man I feel like NBA players would do well with learning how to land safely. Don’t land with your legs straight or stiff. Kinda like how Steph learned to just fall landing to protect his ankles. But maybe just land and let your knees bend and fall.
Horrible landing mechanics. So much shock from landing stiff on his right leg.
Hope it’s a nothing burger and he’s healthy soon
LOL what does this even mean? What about his “landing mechanics” are wrong beyond him being injured?

Regarding landing mechanics
He lands side on without bracing himself (hence the stiff leg). 100% horrible landing mechanics.
What a fucking couch warrior response is this? I bet you can’t roll to the floor without hurting yourself but totally okay grading professional athletes falling in action.
Just because you don’t understans body mechanics doesn’t mean you have to toxic.
Claimed that dunk a little too early there.. Done himself in especially wearing those weak ass pumas
These young players seriously need to learn how to land. Literally no bending of the knees on that play. Hopefully nothing too serious though.
this is true tho. they need to practice rolling to dissipate momentum instead of trying to absorb it in the knees. this is how derrick rose got injured, from not doing that enough.
You’re a clown
Oh god that’s an Achilles for sure
U mean acl?
He grabs his knee not his ankle
I would bet a quadrillion dollars against that being an Achilles injury, simply based on his reaction
100%
Achilles injuries occur when taking off from a loaded position. Not landing. That was something in the knee, probably an ACL
