The real answer is because Calvin Booth while GM of the Nuggets inexplicably gave him a two year deal with a player option.
Nothing against Dario but that deal was so inexplicable at the time even. He had looked washed on the Warriors the year before to the point where he was a questionable signing at all. Giving him a player option was just ridiculous.
