[Highlight] AD made his Mavs debut 1 year ago. Here he catches a lob from Kyrie. The only time both of them played together.
Forgive me, my new friend AD, but the fact that he and Kyrie only played together for 25 minutes is too funny.
Nico
You laugh now but that could be your future with AD and Trae
Could?
Yea, they might play a whole 26 minutes together.
Hopefully it’s the last 26 minutes of the finals. Otherwise they’re cooked 😵💫
But the Hawks did to get Trae
Didn’t give up Luka to get him though
Wow
Ya but there’s no downside for the Wizards. It either works and is a great move or a disaster and oh well
Shortest dynasty of all time.
Sad part is had that team been able to stay healthy they absolutely would’ve been a threat in the west, especially after adding Flagg this year
Indeed but that probably would have meant they wouldn’t have lost enough games to get Flagg
[deleted]
He knew what he was buying, AD has an injury history longer than a CVS receipt
You can still blame Nico for the trade
No. It’s still Nico.
Gtfo
Yup, Nico traded for notable iron man Anthony “day-to-day” Davis
How could he have known a 31 year old player who’s nickname was Street Clothes could be injury prone?
Nico lowkey cooked for a minute
put a glass bowl straight from freezer into the microwave and it cracked in the first minute
r/oddlyspecific
oddly specific, but weirdly apt.
r/weirdlyapt
Someone create this.
Right that screen grab of klay ad and kyrie looks like they upgraded if u didn’t know better
I remember the overreaction posts on this sub from 2 quarters of basketball lmao ppl were fr thinking Nico cooked
Some idiots still think he was and just experienced some bad luck
He unquestionably got the absolute worst case scenario on the luck scale.
Some of them worst case scenarios to bad decisions he mad and some just plain bad luck.
Even landing Cooper Flagg. It was amazing for Dallas but in reality bad luck for Nico and his plan.
I know what you’re trying to say, but no. If Mavs had gotten the 12th pick or whatever we would’ve seen the brought Nico sowed, and it would’ve been a terrible reaping.
i think they mean the luck pull for last season only in regards to AD/kyrie.
like obviously he got super lucky with the draft but he also unquestionably got fucked on both ad and kyrie going out for extended time
Nah he is saying winning the lottery was unlucky for Nico
25 glorious minutes.
Until you look in it and realize he was cooking in the same pot he just trashed
A literal minute
For 25 minutes to be exact
If AD didn’t have health concerns I could see the argument for the trade. But he did and then the risk of him getting injured happened and made the trade somehow look so much worse.
It’s like, yeah on 2K this is a really good team. But injury aversion is a talent in itself. And they’re both ranked F lol
Fr though especially when you realize Max Christie is quickly becoming an elite 3&D
Reminder that kyrie is still on the mavs
This video lowkey had to remind me … last I seen / heard about him is when clips of his streams got posted here awhile ago
I legit forgot he was still in the NBA. Not that I thought he had retired or anything, I just forgot his existence until I saw this post.
I also can’t believe he’s only 33. He had such a young prime.
I maintained that there were lots of egos, be it nico or AD’s that led to his injury.
He was two weeks away from being cleared to train, not play, before the trade. With his injury history he should never play ahead of schedule.
Doesn’t help that Nico fired the medical staff and trainers and in some cases replaced them with people who didn’t even have the necessary NBA certifications.
Imagine if AD and Kyrie stayed healthy with Flag on this team. Legitimate title contender.
Kyrie, Klay, Flag, AD, Lively would have been an insane roster.
They probably don’t get Flagg in that case though right?
Even with those dudes injured it was still only like a 1.8% chance.
They 100% don’t get Flagg if AD and Kyrie are healthy
They win the chip and Nico is praised as a genius if they stay healthy. I’m a Nico burner account
I’ve been comfortable putting Flagg in the “total compensation for Luka” tracker for awhile. If Luka stays, they likely make the playoffs, and even if they somehow don’t, if they win just a couple extra games (they lost five by 5 or fewer post-Luka, AD didn’t play in 4, and they were one win away from falling behind the Bulls in the lottery and two from falling behind Sacramento and Atlanta), they straight up just get a different ping pong number and ergo don’t get Flagg. A Luka/Flagg team is a near statistical impossibility
I guess it’s some much more insanely specific hypothetical where they are all still injured last year but healthy this year
Thats exactly why the conspiracies about Silver giving the mavs the first pick are just ignorant.
If the Mavs didnt have like half the roster injured by the end of the season they dont get the chance to get that pick. If Kyrie doesnt tear his ACL they dont get the pick, if AD doesnt get injured they dont get the pick.
They had a generational run of injuries making them miss the playin and then they got lucky. Everyone who gets the #1 pick gets lucky and none of the teams have even decent odds.
Imagine if they all happened to be healthy at the start of this season lol.
Granted, I don’t really think it’s unlucky when both players have a reputation for injury. That’s risk taking.
If AD and Kyrie stayed healthy we make the playoffs lol
If AD stated healthy this year, Kyrie could be back at the all-star break. I think dumping AD for practically nothing was short sighted.
As long as AD was around, people were going to jeer about Nico. While I agree we got nothing for him, culturally it was important for Mavs leadership to turn the page and create a safe space for Cooper where he didn’t have to worry about team-related negativity from DFW sports fans
Idk about that, if we didn’t get Flagg then yeah I think we should have just ran it back. But keeping AD with Flagg would be half assing 2 timelines. Not great. Also AD doesn’t want to play C, which is what we need him to play, making AD play the 4, pushes Flagg to be a 3 and guys like PJ to play more like a guard which he isn’t particularly good at. At least by letting AD go now we have a clear direction on what to do, we will have 70m in cap space, on track to get a decent pick this year and we’re ducking both aprons. Keeping AD severely limits our flexibility.
It’s crazy how the Mavs are basically an entirely different team now. Just one year later.
No, it’s crazy that the Mavs gifted you Luka in exchange for the cheapest return possible. Trading away an injury-prone 32 year old (who could never play 4 consecutive games for them) to instead build around a 19 year old that’s on a superstar trajectory is common sense.
Mavs should trade Kyrie and Klay in the off season
Really hope he can stay… relatively healthy in Washington. He’s obviously never going to be Mikal Bridges, but this past year was just a disaster.
Nico: It was worth it
Nico deserves more credit for offloading an out of shape injury prone player for this ultimate defensive big man who’s an nba champion and can give you 25 a night.
What could’ve been, but never was.
this is why i buy warranty on expensive purchases
That was a glorious 3 quarters.
It’s crazy cause I thought the trade would age bad but at least ad and kyrie would be a good duo , it aged even worse then even the biggest pessimist would have thought
Damn I read AD made his and thought he already debut as a Wiz
Kyrie-AD-Thompson, on paper, really was a championship winning trio. In a vacuum. If you ignore… circumstances
Had Kyrie playing 40mins a night after this. killed my boy
Honestly for those 25 minutes it was kind of cool. I mean the trade was still a catastrophe but he had the stadium rocking for that 1st half
Free Kyrie
Do you think they practice the handshakes? He had just joined but he and Kyrie already had a handshake down
If I was a mavs fan I’d be so angry seeing this video right now
He was having such a monstrous game almost winning back some Mavs fans and then he gets injured. It’s sad because when AD is at his best he’s one of the most dominant 2 way players ever. His defense single handedly made the Lakers a good defensive team when he was on the court.
lowkey, AD, Kyrie, and Klay, wouldnt be a bad team. i mean if AD could sty on the court. but i’d love someone to run simulation on this lol
Nico felt so vindicated at that moment
