[Charania] Jayson Tatum has started controlled 5-on-5 scrimmages with coaches, more boxes to check, more phases in his rehab. He wants to come back as close as Jayson Tatum as possible.
I hope he’s not under too much pressure to come back this season, a fully-healthy Tatum with the squad they have now will easily be a contender and is gonna cause some damage next year
He’s not under any pressure to come back this season. The FO has already said regardless of what he wants, he needs to be 110% before coming back.
Obviously he’s not under any organizational pressure to return. More the personal pressure he feels knowing that Boston is still very good and has a legitimate title chance if he was to return this season at a high level
idk sounds like he’s actually feeling doubt about if returning will throw a wrench into what we have going right now
I think that’s a bit for show, Brad said in his interview that’s the first he’s hearing that and privately Tatum has implied the opposite.
What do you really have right now though? This team is good but not a contender, looking like a 2nd round exit with no Tatum return which is definitely way better than some people expected
I agree, this team is much better than I thought they’d be but we’re not a championship contender without JT
I don’t think you can say based on anything this regular season that this squad is likely a second round exit. Who are you so sure is bouncing them in the second round?
Do you think you’d be favourites against any of the Cavs, Knicks and Pistons?
Not to mention the likes of Philly who I think would be an even series but I understand if you think you could beat them even without Tatum
I think every metric suggests these would be competitive series, Pistons I would consider favorites but I also think they get the young team playoff tax. Cavs might be better now with Harden, but up to this point ya I certainly think you’d have to consider Celtics at least slight favorites, and now well, Harden is Harden.
I mean whether or not he’s healthy enough to play will ultimately be a team decision. Even if he’s putting personal pressure on himself, they’re obviously not gonna let him come back until he’s 100% physically healthy.
Yeah Boston front office and coaching staff is insanely good
Tatum’s been blessed with some statistically historical level supporting casts. 24 and 25 they had +10 net ratings per 100 with him off the court and this season they’re 34-18 with over a +7 net rating without him at all
Tbf, he was insanely good in those stats prior to 2023-24. Adding Jrue and KP really helped maintain control of the game when Tatum was sitting. The Celtics were also doing a lot of Tatum and the bench lineups.
This season, we are seeing the same thing with Brown. The team is much better with him off the floor, but he’s still obviously a valuable player
I feel like Joe M. And Brad Stevens would be pretty chill. They are winning, and honestly, seems like Brad is pretty reasonable with expectations. Also, you would think they recognize Tatum’s contributions
Yeah, Joe gives off the “maniac who will sacrifice anyone for one more point in a thirty point win”, but I don’t think he’d actually endanger Tatum’s long term health. Brad definitely wouldn’t.
Tatum will come back if it’s best for him and for the team. I trust the front office.
I’m saying insane in a good way. Like insanely good
JB a negative and should be someone you sell high on
this might be the worst take I’ve ever heard on here and that is not an easy feat
You’re coping it’s ok, Celtics are better without Jaylen Brown. Infact watch how they go on a run right now as we speak when he’s subbed off
A guy who’s been a top 7ish player this season and top 15-20ish for most of his prime is a negative?
Brown is literally almost a HOF lock my guy. He’s a 5x all star, he’ll get another all nba by the end of the season (good chance it’s a 1st team) and is a finals MVP.
Brown’s game isn’t advanced analytics friendly but his impact on the court and the eye test tells you he’s a 2 way force for a reason .
Top 7 is hilarious the Celtics are better without him
Name 7 players definitively better than brown this season.
Gianni, Sga, Jokic, Ant, Luka, Wemby, Kawhi, Dmitch, Embiid, etc.
Even with injuries he’s still the top 15-25 guy he was last year, he’s just on historically high usg rn lol.
Kawhi and embiid are rarely healthy and the clippers are under .500. Giannis strained his calf multiple times this season he’s not making any all nba teams this season .
Mitchell? He has a much better roster and the Cavs have underperformed
Wemby is impactful but he still hasn’t even made the playoffs yet
All sounds like excuses. All of them are significantly more impactful than Brown according to literally every advanced metric. Brother Brown has a -9 Net on/off. Do you know how bad that is?
Excuses ? The best ability is availability
I’ll take 75 games of brown than 50 games of embiid and a Kawhi that might miss the playoffs and who JB clamped up and dropped 50 on
Nah dude, JB has been a monstrous first option this year.
IMO, a fully healthy Tatum will always require some reps on the court in a real game. He won’t be “Tatum” until a couple games played.
And i think that’s what the first few weeks of next season are for. Your coaching staff is one of the smartest in the league and literally everyone on your squad as you know is humble and flexible in their role while still being committed to playing team ball, perfect environment for him to ramp up in
Tatum is a fucking iron man. Recovering from an achilles this quickly is crazy
Tyrese is not far from being able to play either, but the team preemptively shut him down for the season last summer.
Different situations. Adding Halliburton to the Pacers now doesn’t help them achieve anything.
I mean yeah, Pacers’ GM said that this would be a ‘gap year’ before the season started.
Yeah Tyrese said he was starting to play again in the mind the game pod. But might as well take the full summer
With the Pacers playing style that was the right decision, not to say that re-injuries dont happen but i feel like its more likely to happen with the playing style of the pacers which is constant motion and miss directions.
The Celtics dont play that way.
Honestly I’d rather both guys rest up for next season. I want the East to be full power next season with Hali and Tatum back to normal.
Need some more legendary playoff series
our ec finals 2 seasons ago was a sweep for you guys but honestly that series was so fun. i think we were the top 2 offenses that year that shit was peak
It’s not really that quick. It’s been ~9 months since it happened. He’s within the time frame of expected recovery and return to more intense play
Age is on his side
Also, he got surgery within hours, which is supposed to be significantly better for recovery than waiting even a few days. And it was from the Achilles surgeon.
Ar’darius Washington was playing nfl football 2 months ago btw
The procedure and rehab have come a crazy long way
It’s been 9 months ..
Tatum will be back 3:16
By gawd that’s 19 year old Jayson Tatums music!!!
And that’s the bottom line
Tatum just whooped your ass
Need him to comeback to the glass shattering music when he returns lol
Wasn’t there reports he was holding off coming back this year
I believe he said himself in an interview that he was hesitant about coming back because he doesn’t want to fuck with the team chemistry during the playoff push while he’s not 100% and needs to integrate. That then got aggregated to hell into a million different reports about him not coming back.
I still think he comes back this year but I’m less certain than I was 2 months ago. I would guess it’s late February or early March.
This team is awesome but they’re not winning it all without him. If he’s healthy he should play
Depends on how healthy he is, if there is even a small chance that this will get him injured again, then imo they should definitely skip this year, could ruin his career. If he is also not going to be close to himself, then I am not sure if he would help the team at all. He is not a KD type of plug and play kind of player imo. If he’s coming in, injured, taking a lot of usage, taking a lot of jumpshots below 40%, might as well get the guys some reps without him
yeah we all know if he comes back he’s gonna need to be fully healthy. but the topic of discussions is more should even a fully healthy him come back risking ruining team chemistry. which i think is bs tbh, if he’s fully healthy, he should come back.
If that’s the case then yeah he definitely should come back since I don’t think this current Boston team despite their record and net rating could go far in the playoffs without him.
There were a lot of things wrong with the 2018-19 squad, but I remember Hayward was a big problem because of how badly he threw off the chemistry since he was getting minutes while trying to rehab from his devastating injury. Tatum probably remembers that too and doesn’t want to fuck with a good thing.
The difference is that Tatum already has several years of chemistry with the core of this team as well as the coaching staff.
Hayward had a training camp and 2 minutes of regular season game time.
Yeah great point actually. Hadn’t thought of that. I think there was another instance where Hayward also tried to push through a separate, different ankle injury (maybe in his last year?) in a playoff series against the Heat and it really cooked us because he wasn’t ready for the load he was asked to carry
I don’t get why Tatum is still caught in with headlines like that, does he really care that much what the internet has to say about him?
What do you mean? He hasn’t commented on what the internet thinks at all.
He said nothing about the headlines?
Ok whatever not like I care
No, the report by Chris Haynes said that the decision is still up in the air
Yeah that’s still probably the case
Idk why everyone keeps saying that, there was a report that he was still deciding whether or not to return based on messing up the teams chemistry. We have no idea whether or not he’ll try to return this year.
The vids we’ve been privy to he doesn’t look like he’s anywhere near ready for actual game speed.
Really? I thought he looked pretty explosive in the workout he let media in on week or two ago. After working out in private all season he let the media in - I feel like you don’t do that unless you’re trying to make a statement, unless you’re trying to say “look at where I’m at”.
If Tatum does return, I envision him coming off the bench in limited minutes and slowly ramping himself up into the playoffs.
The reports are that it’s not a forgone conclusion he will be back.
malika 🥵😍
She married that white boy. Lucky MF
Really hope he gets back to his peak. He should definitely reach out to KD for some advice.
he has done that already
It worries me a little in the back of my head. As good as Durant has been post surgery he’s not the same player he was before. He doesn’t drive nearly as much and had to become an even better shooter than he already was. Which was already all time great. You can say age played a factor but the injury clearly affects that first step explosion .
Tatum is a good to great shooter in high volume but he’s not KD level. Tatum does have a strength advantage he could better utilize (maybe more post moves?) but I think to be at least 90-95% of what he was he needs to be an even better shooter .
Durant also had age working against him, Tatum has a few more years.
And remember, Durant’s best series (the one against the Bucks) came after his return from injury.
KD also had a God Tier run at the Olympics in 21. It’s been 7 years since the injury, he’s 37 and averaging 26 shooting 50/40/90.
Biggest difference is KD hasn’t been as durable as he was before
I have absolutely no evidence backing this up but I think he’ll be back in mid-March, guessing against the Wizards at home on the 14th
20 minutes a game off the bench would be a great addition to this team
Breaking News:
Jayson Tatum wants to come back as close to Jayson Tatum as possible.
Can’t talk about Giannis trades anymore so this is going to be the new story Shams attempts to pull in viewers with each day
What’s Giannis’ position on Tatum’s return on Kalshi?
Haha no doubt JTs return date will be bet on
If he is ready to come back this might be the worse case scenario for the east. They can continue to ease him into the latter season now they have Vuce…
Celtics could end up going to the finals
Feels like the most likely outcome with or without him tbh.
With the experience they have, I’ve a hard time seeing them lose to anyone in the east in 7.
I even see a good number of Pistons fan concerned about a playoff series with them.
We got beat by the Knicks last year. Can definitely be beat in 7 by the Cavs or NYK.
Cs will be a tough out but Pistons are a problem for us as well as a healthy Knicks team (I.e. Mitch Robinson) is also very good. The Cavs are also back in play until we see what impact Harden makes.
And honestly the Sixers are looking kinda nice if Embiid continues rounding into form.
Am I tripping or is the injured leg clearly less defined, don’t think he’ll get the explosiveness back near 100% until next season
It definitely is less defined in this footage, although I think they might have reused footage from when he first did on-court stuff last fall.
I’m legit getting sick of seeing shams face dead ass it annoys me
Shams really should’ve let someone read that script before taking it to television. Jayson Tatum wants to come back as close to Jayson Tatum as Jayson Tatum as possible. Fine sentiment, but terrible wordsmithing.
I hope he prioritizes a full recovery. Jumping straight into playoff intensity with a short ramp-up period is honestly worrying.
The final step would be tie a tie.
Beware the Ides of Jayson
I hope he sits the full year out.
Is he Goku
He should just shut it down, man. Come back in the middle of next season.
My sources tell me no more Shams on tv pls.
Can we talk about this man hairline? Bro this shit is immaculate.
Bro stop with this shit…. Everyone knows the most logical situation is to see if the team can get at least to the semis without him. There is no point returning if there isn’t a good chance for a ring
Doubt its real, its coming from Shams. Tatum sitting on his couch with a bag of ruffles playing 2k
👍 he has moved from kalshi Giannis to kalshi tatum
He shouldn’t. It’s going to mess things up.
Coming back would be actually stupid. Just wait like KD did, come back second half of next year and rest more.
Dude ain’t coming back it would be malpractice to rush an Achilles tear
Opposite. When you cleared to go it is detrimental to wait longer.
Based on what? Because that certainly wasn’t the case for KD
The doctors. If the ACL is good to go, getting back to the game becomes a mental hurdle, not a physical one. The longer you avoid it the worse that mental hurdle becomes. You start thinking different, playing different, over correcting.
Don’t go back before it’s healed. Yes, but if it’s healed, get back out there as soon as you can.
Right, you want to get the rust shaken off as fast as possible before you lose your feel/step even longer.
KD’s 18 month layoff was only because of the timing of everything, no? NBA season ended in March that year, which was I’d assume a bit before he’d have been cleared, and then Nets didn’t play again until December because they weren’t invited to the bubble, at which point KD played on opening night.
Dru Smith came back from an Achilles tear in just 9 months this year and is playing more than he ever has in his entire career.
Tatum’s injury happened 9 months ago. He certainly wouldn’t be coming back in some record pace. If he feels healthy he should play. The team doctors know better than we do.
Are you a doctor? Clown
There are medical professionals working with him to help make and inform this decision. If he’s cleared to come back who are we to say he shouldn’t
He’s the stiffest basketball player I’ve ever seen
Can this gimmick just play already I don’t get it
