[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama with an utterly ridiculous sequence
Lol so glad he’s on my team wtf
When we say a actual generational talent Wemby is that guy.
Idk Flagg is also really good. It’s crazy how much better he’s gotten even during this season.
With all due respect, Flagg is really talented and a great first overall pick, but by no means is he “generational”
By definition there’s only one generational player per generation and he’s not him.
I don’t think that’s accurate. There are many players that are generational that happen at the same time:
Duncan played with Shaq
Bird and magic
Kobe and LeBron
Bill Russell and wilt
Luka and jokic
Those are all easily considered generational players all off the top of my head. Def more. Durant and curry are generational players.
lmao nah you can have multiple
the definition doesn’t say there’s only 1, they’re just a player that breaks molds
flagg is hitting milestones that were previously held by jordan and lebron… he is definitely making his way to becoming a generational player
….
By definition, a generation is 20-30 years.
Even if you split the difference, only 1 of LBJ and Wemby can be considered generational with this take. No KD, no Steph, no Giannis etc…they are just “really talented”
Coop is doing things not seen since lebrons rookie year. That’s fairly generational if you ask me
Flagg is really, really good. Wembanyama does things that no other player in history would be physically capable of. I feel like generational doesn’t even do it justice lol.
Olajuwon did a lot of the same things. Prime Robinson was probably more athletic and could move better cuz strength.
Wemby is just cooler cuz he’s taller and has a better handle, but damn robinson could handle too. They just didn’t have the shammgod back then.
Also wemby probably couldn’t have played back then cuz he’s too skinny. He’d have been destroyed by Shaq or Robinson or any of the giant bigs.
And all this and I’m a spurs fan and love Wemby and truly think he could be the goat. But he’s still kinda generational. Flagg could def be on the same level if Wemby doesn’t become the goat.
The difference is people are comparing him to Kawhi. Nobody is, or will ever be, an apt comparison to Wemby
He is better than Kawhi was his first year. People compared Kobe to Jordan. Zion didn’t have a great comparison and he’s bad now.
This argument doesn’t make sense.
The points Flagg has been able to score, and how easily he scores them, are better evidence than the comparison of players.
You can have multiple generational players in one generation of players. I listed them in a comment below. You can figure out who they are.
Actually I’m not even sure. Doncic, maybe guy like Flagg are what you could consider a generational talent. Wemby is a GOAT potential talent. If he stays healthy everyone will expect from him to be at least just right behind Michael and Lebron when it’s all said and done.
I don’t say this lightly but I think he’s already the best two-way highlight player I’ve ever seen, in terms of his ability to do absolutely obscene things back to back.
Alien-level block into pass pass monster alley oop
Outer space-echelon stuff into 27 foot 3.
Double block into dribble move into soaring dunk.
I’m not saying he’s king of highlights, but in terms of creating insane sequences I’ve rarely if ever seen anyone who can do it so insanely consistently.
Well, he gets AT LEAST a crazy highlight per game on average, and one out of 2 is often something we’ve either never seen before, or so rarely that it does not matter anyway.
And on both sides of the floor.
So yeah, he’s probably already entering the conversation for all-time king of highlights.
At least he has fair arguments.
His rookie year highlight reel was so long, it would be a great career highlight reel for a solid borderline HoF 35 y.o. NBA player.
I guess that’s what they mean by “there are levels to this shit”.
When I watch full game replays, I usually skip the part when my favourite teams are defending. But for the spurs, I watch them defending too cause it’s so damn fun what they can do
I am saying he’s the king of highlights.
MJ still has that for me, his body of work is immense.
Everyday i wake up I’m that LeBron meme
I feel like almost every game I see him do things I’ve never seen before on a basketball court.
Elite profile
I think the refs haven’t seen it before either… since Mikan.
The ball was past its apex and on the way down when Wembanyama knocked it up, making it look like it wasn’t goaltending.
And in fact here’s the image evidence
Reference point 2 milliseconds before the block - R43SflS.jpeg (1920×1080)
Just before the block, ball higher so ball is on the rise, no impact yet - eLYl8uF.jpeg (1920×1080)
At the point of contact, ball higher again - xvz7dxu.jpeg (1920×1080)
Legal block, no goaltend
ENHANCE
ZOOMIFY. MORE.
AKSHULLY if the ball is on the way down and it gets knocked back up, those are the easiest goaltending calls. Because you see an actual bobble, and that bobble takes time, so it’s a stutter during the loop. That there was no stutter and it’s a consistent arc despite it being knocked up is how you know it’s a clean block
I would say more like Wilt, Wilt was so good he just got bored. He probably could have made the olympics in multiple different sports. Difference is team brass never got Wilt the support cast he needed until much later in his career. Wemby is lucky, just the set of young guards he plays with is great for his development
Yeah I’ve definitely seen Wilt get high for something like this. Not to mention potentially blocking the sky hook.
Nope, you’re wrong
What do you mean since Mikan?
Mikan??
Yeah definitely ought to have been called, but even his ability to make that play at all.is insane. Ridiculous even.
Me either, it’s like he’s the amalgamation of multiple big men legends of the past
Is this what watching wilt felt like?
This is literally how I pitch him/explain watching so much Spurs to my non-basketball watching friends
Actual cheat code
modded custom player
i was about to comment his nickname should be The Human Cheatcode
So cool to me that the weird one-legged three is an actual move that teams need to see as a threat
Why would you even close out and try to block on defense? He either shoots it and there is nothing you can do about it or he fakes and passes you by.
The point is mostly to get into position and force his brain to weigh which option is best.
Defense isn’t always about getting every stop, it’s about making every possession as difficult as possible and hope that over the course of 48 minutes it adds up to an advantage.
That’s why you close out knowing there’s nothing you can fundamentally do. You do it because that’s how you play defense and because over 48 minutes you might force him to make a couple sub-optimal plays and hope it turns into an advantage.
This is a perfect comment
Even if they aren’t going to block it, having a guy flying at you makes the shot harder
I know the Point of closing out isn’t to just try and block a shot but the way he goes all in on the close out makes it too easy to fake and pass by the defender.
It’s probably just natural instinct and reaction to see the person you’re guarding shooting. They’re mostly always going to try to contest.
The first to blink with any of Wemby’s insane bullshit losses.
Bro what the actual fuck did I just see…. he looks like a 5 star recruit against regular high school basketball players… and he is in the NBA… once he puts on about 15 pounds of muscle, its over for the rest of the league…
And gets more experience/feel. Still hasn’t played 2 seasons worth of games yet.
I don’t follow the NBA much but it seems to me that pretty much everyone agrees that the only real question mark is whether or not he’ll be able to stay healthy
He’s already got a good amount of weight I can’t see him putting on much more than what he has already. He don’t look nothing like Chet
Feels like watching Zion against those small public school teams lol
I think he would be fine with his size Im afraid if he put up more weight he’s going to be hurt more just like KP
It’s already over, the only thing stopping Wemby from becoming the GOAT is about 10-15 years and the uncertainty of if he can sustain playing without getting hurt.
Stop yapping cooper and play defense lol
He’s been studying tape of his predecessor to really give Mavs fans what they’ve been missing.
Cooper to Washington for AD, who says no?
I dont know, defense wins games. Mavs better send a pick since its not like cooper took them to the finals or anything lol
He actually jogged back somewhat and was in there, Luka would still be under the basket
Nico was right
Luka has clearly been yelled at. This last month he sprints back after the play with this weird terminator 2 sprint. It’s hilarious
No 😂 not Nico
lmao on defense dude was not engaged at all and then right after the oop, Mavs call a TO and RIGHT AWAY he turns back to keep yappin at the ref
It’s fine he’s banged up because of high usage. Plus he needs to learn the rules of fouling in the NBA cuz it’s different for everyone.
What foul?
Meh this is really close to a goaltend. Understandable to complain if it is one given it’s a robbed 2 points
Cant tell for sure from this angle and they didnt show replay
He didn’t miss a beat on defence, I get the point but
That has to be so fucking annoying.
“All men are created equal”
Bullshit
“God has His favorites”
wemby has like 2 or 3 blocks per game where you have no idea if its a goaltend or not
And thankfully (for some of us) they let most of them go
Spurs fan here, a few of them are sometimes actual goaltending but so close and so insane looking it’s often impossible to call without the slowmo replay on multiple angles.
I guess he makes the refs want to apply an unspoken rule: “if it’s insane, looks cool, and entertaining, I’ll allow it”. 😂
Rule of cool baby!
Nearly every time they called a goaltend and it was reviewed, the call was overturned. A lot of the shot that look like goaltend are actually legit. It’s just we’re not used to a player blocking a shot at the zenith of its arc
Rule of cool
tbf while I understand the logic of goaltending… there’s no way to know if the ones that are iffy were certain to go in, unlike what a goaltend is meant to block.
The rulebook simply is not built around someone like Wemby
I was talking to someone the other day about how some of Wemby’s shots are going downwards at release so does any block count as goaltending?
If his release is high enough he is shooting down in to the basket lol
1 block, 1 board, 1 assist, and 2 points In like 3 seconds
Draymond does that in 48 min…if he’s lucky
Yeah but can Wemby commit flagrant fouls as well as Draymond does?
I mean he could and honestly if he started it would be pretty fucking terrifying.
He may be pretty good at basketball
Evidence seems to suggest that 🤔
is that goaltending
Nope it’s right at the apex. Which nobody else in NBA history outside of probably Manute Bol can block
that’s fucking insane
Dikembe would have a shot at it.
NONONONONO finger wag Naht in MY house!
and this is why the glazing is insane to me. he’s 7’6 i don’t see how that’s impressive
What a sad hater take.
3 years in and idk how people don’t get what makes wemby special, open your eyes man
Zach Edey is 7ft 4 do you see him moving the way wemby does this is stupider than shaq’s bol bol take lmao
Wemby is not just a basketballer who happens to be tall, he is specifically a great basketballer player who also happens to be tall, there is a difference
Yao Ming was the same height but won’t be able to do that. Hell, even Muresan won’t be quick enough to chase and get up to block a high arching shot at its apex. It’s the combination of Wemby’s height, reach, agility, and quickness (for his size) that is impressive. Just like how Shaq was quick and had great footwork for a behemoth that he was, while every other 7 footer was a slow, lumbering giant.
Show me vids of other people his height blocking these shots. He’s not the first of his size. Why haven’t the others dominated in defense?
It’s allowed because rule of cool
They showed a replay. He blocked it just as the ball was about to go down, so it was clean.
The problem is he’s taller than many apexes
Impossible to tell from this angle
They showed it later on, it was clean
Yes but you know the truth.
Just because he can actually do this it should be allowed ngl i’m not even a Spurs fan
No
Like bro you stole my three lol
Sorry, Coop. Need to shoot it even higher
Mans out there playing 2k, no Hassan Whiteside
Good block, no Hassan Whiteside
Lol even he is laughing at the whole thing
That’s my boy
The ball is like 12 feet in the air, how the hell did he block that
I’ll never get tired of the opposing players reaction when Wemby block them.
Some truly don’t understand how it happened but the truth is that it did, in fact, happened lol.
Great defense by the Mavs there
Every single game he breaks your mind with something new
It’s funny because this is like the most normal play for him. He has an insane block directly into an oop or deep three like once or twice a game.
Holy shit
I mean bro… you are unreal
Where the fuck are you supposed to shoot the ball to if he can touch the sky?
Spurs and Patriots dominating sports, once again. :’(
Yay and nay :/
Wtf was that???? Damn Wemby
Thats why Wemby is becoming the face of the NBA
This is why I love basketball.
Look at all these little kids he’s playing with
Genuinely impossible for any other player in NBA history to do this.
Incredible to see a truly 1 of 1 athlete across sports history.
Me playing my 5 year old on his plastic hoop
When he dunks, he always looks like me on my doorway Nerf hoop as a kid.
I watch this and I’m convinced the Spurs will be unstoppable soon
Every half second was an M. Night Shyamalan twist
That’s cooked
He IS an alien so
This might be the greatest sequence I’ve ever seen
This should be stickied
This is a weekly occurrence at this point 😂
Spur fans have to be overjoyed to have such nice talent Wemby, Castle and others - After the NY Knicks I enjoy watching this team grow
Reminds me of Shaq’s prime, doing something other worldly for his size, except Vic took the craziness to another level.
Was that the ‘26 Spurs or the ‘82 Hoyas?
When he packs on another 20ish pounds he’s going to be a multi MVP/DPOY winner.
All these vets looking to chase a ring need to hitch their wagon to this guy
nah bro i’m sick what even is this
First off wtf Fox
The pass?
😲😲😲 A block A rebound (possibly) A assist & A dunk All in one sequence
I can see Wemby becoming such a master blocking shots that he gets used to keeping the ball within his reach. The one thing that keeps blocks from being as valuable as they could be is how often they don’t lead to a turnover. But if Wemby blocks them softly, or taps them up for himself, he’d get the ball most of the time and suddenly they’re extremely valuable.
im surprised they dont just do this every play. seems too easy.
he’s basically the only positive thing going on in the nba
Is the blue team playing?
Wemby is like Gumby
Heinous activity
It’s just that he’s the only basketball player who’s ever played like him, and it’s so fucking cool.
Wemby is such a cheat code
Victor “Cheat Code” Wembayana
He was already elite in the volume of blocks. Now he’s close to mastering blocks to the point that he maintains the possession most times. And the rate at which he gets blocks without goaltending is unreal.
And that’s just the defensive end of his game.
Alternate universe this guy would be Piston instead of ausar
He blocks so well but that one kinda looked like it was on the way down.
If this guy manages to stay healthy there’s no way any team could stop him. We’re all fucked basically
Utterly ridiculous. I liked most of all his big mischievous smile at the end of the play. It’s fun to do the unexpected
They are coming…
There is not a single other human in history that could’ve made either one of those plays, and he made them consecutively like it was just another day at the office.
No travels, no flops. I approve.
This team is going to be bullshit very soon. Castle is a star in the making and Harper is but a rookie. Wemby is a perennial MVP/DPOY candidate.
Living breathing cheat code
This motherfucker.
Good play, but isn’t this just mostly horrible defense?
How is the game not sold out? Spurs fans are spoiled
Its 3 minutes into the 3rd, people were still up using the restroom or getting food.
