People get obsessed with prospects and potential all the time when guys show anything resembling above average play. Most rookies who have hot stretches come back down to earth but McCain got injured right after his so we just assumed he would continue. I posted in a thread the other day, but other rookies who had notable 7-10 game stretches:
Look at someone like Knect who also had a solid 9 game stretch. Look at GG Jackson in 2023⁄2024 or Cam Whitemore the same year. Whitemore had a 7 game stretch with 19-5-1 on 48/40/74 splits in only 20 min a night.
It reminds me of when Cam reddish got traded to NYK and people thought ATL was crazy for giving him up and people talking about potential. The dude was ass but because he had hype coming into the draft and was a big HS prospect people were still stuck on priors
