[Highlight] Cooper Flagg is the youngest player in NBA history to score 30+ points in four straight games, and is averaging 37.8 PPG over that span. Check out some of the best plays from his historic 4-game scoring run.
Game is slowing down for flagg. He will be the next best thing besides Wemby. It feels like the league finally found their faces for the next decade (if they continue well).
Difference is Wemby was a physical specimen, easy to make him the face of the league
I don’t think it’s remotely hard to make Flagg the face of the league?
Get his twin in the NBA and now you get two of the same face. Sort of.
He gotta work on the mustache first
They haven’t been about to make sga the face of the league
It’s still LeBron, curry, Giannis and jokic
Does any other sport have so much debate over marketing stuff like who is the “face of the league”?
Unfortunately yes
Look at americans discussing boxing, boxing is apparently dead because americans are not winning enough because the rest of the world does not matter.
He’s an incredible player - I just personally don’t find him very entertaining to watch and I think that’s part of the problem
Is a physical specimen not was
I don’t know if that’s the case. I feel like bigger players are harder to relate to kids. Kids can embody themselves in Iverson or Steph.
As a simple approximation - Shaq, Duncan, KG, AD, Jokic, Embiid never sold a ton of shoes.
Their smaller counterparts like Steph and Iverson were way bigger “stars”.
Even guys like Kobe and Jordan, while they are physical specimens, a lot of their marketing is around how they were the hardest workers, and they were much smaller than traditional superstars in their era.
The Ja 3 is one of the best selling shoes in 25, would you consider him popular?
Steph hasn’t been able to sell shoes since for a few years now, is he unpopular?
Maybe shoes aren’t the best metric
And of all the big men you mentioned, only shaq and kg had a signature shoe
I’d say Ja is pretty popular but not for the right reasons
He’s not popular, he’s talked about, and for a reason that not would help him sell shoes
Teams were asking for picks to take on his contract
This is ridiculous. He was (and still is) INCREDIBLY popular before any of those “reasons”….which is why him doing that stuff was such a big deal in the first place.
Wemby is also 10x more charismatic than Flagg
I think Flagg will unfurl a bit over time. He was pretty funny in those commercials. It legit seems like hes so focused and he’s a rookie.
For now, some rookies take time to blossom personality wise
*Since Luka but in the most respectful manner in the whole entire world
I always turn in to watch him, and end up admiring Marshall’s game over and over
Am I the only one?
He’s a dawg he and BWill are probably the only people happy that Luka got traded since their games don’t mesh well with Luka.
Naji Marshall was that way with NOLA too. Where he just makes play after play. Such a great role player.
Yeah, but it’s even crazier seeing him do it in large doses. And the way he does it is wild. He’s not athletic, but it’s like he’s going to get a shifty 2 pointer off in the lane every single time. It’s crazy 😂
marshall has never missed a floater in his life
ROTY don’t care
I mean it’s not even a debate at this point lol
20.4⁄6.6⁄4.2 on 56.2%TS
vs
18.8⁄5.5⁄3.5 on 64.3%TS
I certainly think it’s a debate.
Kon obviously has insane efficiency, but Cooper’s all around stats are just better in every single way, and he’s been way better than Kon defensively. He’s also just been getting better and better, while Kon has played the same level all year, so whatever debate there was is closing fast.
It’s Melo vs LeBron again
LeBron had slightly better stats, Melo was on a good team. They gave it to Bron.
Funny enough Cooper is on the same trajectory as LeBron
that’s debatable
How many blocks and steals/game does kon have?
Flagg: 1.2⁄0.8 STLS/BLK, 2.2 TOV, 34.2 MPG.
Knueppel: 0.7⁄0.2. STLS/BLK, 2.2 TOV, 32 MPG.
So no debate then
It appears that people are actually debating it right now, and both sides are making reasonable arguments.
I mean averaging more points, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals vs +8% TS seems pretty clear
+8% TS
8% in true shooting is massive. Kon has elite efficiency (better than extremely efficient scorers like Curry and Durant) and Flagg is below league average.
Kon has the highest TS% for a rookie with at least 20% usage over 1,200+ minutes in league history. So it’s literally the most efficient volume scoring season for a rookie in NBA history.
I think Flagg should probably win it, but that has to at least put Kon in the conversation.
I don’t disagree what he’s doing is impressive unprecedented 3 point shooting for a rookie, but it’s as the third star and he’s being assisted on 60% of 2s and 90% of threes vs 38% on 2s and 70% of threes for coop. He’s a better 3 pt shooter than coop by far, but coop is better at everything else
I personally think Knueppel’s absurd efficiency makes it a debate, 42.5% from 3, on 7.8 3PA per game. It’s unheard of for a rookie, but you do you. It remains to be seen if Flagg kan keep going the way he has for the past few games, if he does, then it’s over, but that’s not a guarantee.
Flagg is averaging more points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. I don’t see how it’s close
If the Hornets make the Playoffs, most of the credit will go to Kon in the eyes of the media, tbh, and that might net him the nod.
Ignore my flair, he was always gonna be roty. Now they’re letting him cook with an insane usage for a rook. I think they let the conversation get to them. Doesn’t matter tho, they ain’t goin anywhere. He is an absolute specimen 🍆
Sure you can give any rookie the usage rate he’s been allowed, but he’s still gotta go out there and face the opposing team’s best defender every night and face double teams, all while playing on a team with horrible spacing and below average point guard play
People only look at stats but kon is on a much better team with many supports, no pressure to make plays, and more spacing because team’s no.1, no.2 options draw two or more of the opponent’s best defenders.
Brother Kon’s scoring was better when LaMelo and Miller weren’t playing because he was still very effective as the primary option lmao. He spent plenty of games being covered as the #1 guy on the scouting report where he did have the pressure to make plays and he did fine. And still, he’s the first guy out in our rotation so that a lot of his minutes in this winning streak are with the bench where he’s still the primary option and very much has pressure to make plays. Very regularly creates for the team by drawing two, just as much as Miller and LaMelo create for him.
Like Cooper is the front runner right now and it’s easy to make an argument for that, but why make up a false narrative about Kon to do so?
Because the argument is he’s so much more efficient than flagg, but all we r saying is kon’s stats will of course be better because he has more spacing. Yes he led the bench guys, but he primarily plays with mill and ball, wouldn’t that affect his percentage positively? While our argument is that cooper is on an island by himself all game.
Kon averaged 21⁄5.6⁄4 shooting 48% from the field and 40% from 3 over the 20 games with LaMelo and Miller in and out of the lineup. Please tell me who is creating the spacing in a lineup of Sexton/Sion/Kon/Bridges/Kalkbrenner lmfao - surprise, it’s Kon. You’re making an argument that’s not based on the reality of what we’ve seen. Kon’s efficiency is still elite with no help, it just gets even crazier when he does.
Yeah they act like kon isn’t getting open threes from lamelo and his teammates and is shooting 8 step back threes a game. The majority of coops points are being created by coop
Kidd making play PG early on was one of the best coaching decisions he made. He looks at the game differently now than he did in October/ November. It’s wild how fast he caught on after they switched him back.
It was hard to watch with all the injuries we had. Bht it’s absolutely paid off.
I will trust Kidd former MVP and Giannis who thank him for his development than some analytic nerds lol
I’ve seen this a lot and I don’t really agree. It seems like the improvement and development really accelerated now that he’s actually surrounded by more shooting and ball movement, and less people clogging the paint. He still initiates a ton of offense, which is great experience, he’s just not bringing up the ball.
Once they put more spacing around him (which still isn’t much), he’s looked a lot more like he did in HS and college. So it doesn’t feel like he added new skills from the PG stint. It just feels like he’s now back to his normal self and playstyle.
Damn all he needed was to get comfortable. Mavs fans deserve this 🤣
He does all of this while we are offering him zero spacing. Look at the paint! It’s almost always packed.
Flagg is in his bagg
League fugged
Once he gets a respectable three and gets the SGA/Luka/Giannis calls he will be unstoppable. Plus he can guard 1-5 and will be a multi year all defensive team player.
I’d rather Flagg over Luka
I wonder if the Mavs would take Luka back for Flagg
I wouldn’t tbh
Dont u worry, i’m pretty sure Flagg will end up on the lakers playing with wemby eventually.
kid is different. 37.8 over 4 games at his age is absurd
Shoutout to our homie Adam Silver 🫡🫡
Wemby being an alien and all the drama from the whole Luka Mavs situation has made what Flagg has been doing not get talked about enough sadly.
Such unusually deceptive highlights. Makes shots look easy when he’s going off either leg, either hand, spinning either direction. So long and deceptively quick, and such touch. Yet this is only a teenager.
Kid starting him at point is paying off dividends
Flagg is ridiculous
Ballin
What a bum, trade him- Nico
Dallas seriously went from Luka to this dude.
Flagg makes it seem like he’s running around traffic cones during these games. He’s going to get the fattest contract possible once he’s eligable to.
I haven’t seen flagg play since November…. He has improved soooo much.
He’s getting another against us tonight for sure
Silver rigging the lottery for the mavs right after that Luka trade was so obvious but it makes life easier for mavs fans at least. It was pretty much guaranteed they were gonna get a replacement
He’s going to wind up having a better career than a certain other young player who is very, very hyped and promoted.
Idk Jokic has way too many MVPs for me to think like this.
Ant? Foh
I don’t want to hear anything about spurs fans being the only ones that have been “gifted” anything
Mavs have moved up in the lottery once in their entire history. Spurs have more lottery luck than any other team by far
The Spurs didn’t move up to get Wemby. Tied for best odds.
That’s still moving up. They didn’t have the worst record, and it’s still unlikely for those 3 to get #1. It certainly doesn’t dismiss the fact that they are by far the luckiest franchise lottery wise.
Kon could have better stats but Cooper is still gonna win.
Weird comment considering Flagg has better stats
That’s not what I’m saying but whatever.
Coop averages more points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals than Kon.
🤦♂️
If Kon had better stats he would win. Acting like coop is somehow guaranteed roty is just wrong. The reason he’s in the lead is because he’s had a better season.
He is also the youngest to lose all four of those games
in the mavs best interest this class is stacked plus the team sucks anyways and hes a rookie, wemby’s spurs were bad too it doesnt matter
Brother our team sucks. He’s the only reason we’re in any of the games
