The Sacramento Kings are giving away season tickets if you hit a free throw.
you can see the disappointment on his face
guy will put em on StubHub
He’ll probably not even cover the taxes he owes on the tickets. Lol
lol his pair of shitty uppers will literally sell on average $40 per game
\(40 x 41 = a whopping \)1,640 in revenue
then less taxes
he’s sitting on a loss
if i were him, i’d literally ask the Kings for $250 cash instead
If LeBron really is retiring next year that 1 or 2 games he plays in Sac will net him at least $500-1000 alone.
Lakers, Knick and a few others. Plus anyone chasing history. He could definitely make a few dollars
Doesnt feel worth the hassle lol
There are a lot of people hurting out there. If he does it right he could easily make an extra 5k to 10k. There are a lot of people who could use that money.
It’s not even that hard to resell tickets, unless I’m mistaken. Like, there’s no hassle. You don’t have to sell them out on the street before the game
Can you explain how he would owe more than $1,640 in taxes? I don’t understand.
You pay taxes on the fair market value of prizes over a certain value (I believe it’s anything over $600, but either way this easily passes the threshold), usually at your income tax rate.
Let’s say these tickets are worth \(10,000 total face value. If he's in the 22% income tax bracket, that's \)2,200 in taxes right there (and that’s not even considering California state taxes).
Though in reality if he actually does sell them at a loss from the face value he could probably deduct it from his taxes.
Oh gotcha, I didn’t realize the fact value and resale value are that much different. Yeah that’s pretty stupid considering the “value” is arbitrary and whatever the team sells them for, not their actual value.
Just fwiw it looks like Kings season tickets are about \(1500 for upper level sideline tickets. So it’s about \)300 in taxes using your math.
$36-39 per game is a great deal for season tickets tbh. I don’t think you’d get that back, but you’d certainly get your tax money back.
https://www.nba.com/kings/season-tickets
What’s face vs his StubHub cut?
There have to be a few games where that number rises right? We are getting close to some of the last opportunities to see guys like Steph, LeBron, and maybe even KD
I’d take $1000 at the team merch store and just stock up on CWebb and Peja jerseys
Yea it works out for the kings if they go cuz they’ll spend money on concessions
actually no. If he sells them for less than he bought them then that’s a reportable loss, thus he no longer owes taxes
that’s not how that works. His cost basis on the tickets is 0 because he got them for free.
He’s gotta pay taxes on whatever the fave value of the tickets is.
Gift tax for tickets would be form 709 which means it’s handled by the donor. If he were to sell them though he’d be subject to capital gains and losses.
Or he could…go to the games?
This is like when Pacers gave the half court shot $150
What ?!? When was this what year?
My bad, it was $500
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/tmbtdFFUNF
I’m used to seeing it like $25K or something tho haha
That’s because it is Indiana and half the state could sink a half court shot. I hit my first one in 7th grade.
And you can buy 600 acres for $500.
lol. I wish. It is cheaper than Miami but it isn’t that cheap. I just googled it and a 300 acre farm would cost around $4.5 million, so I would say there is a bit of leeway in your statement.
LOL
Hey man it was just a joke
hornets did the same for $1000 like a week ago and someone hit it lmao
Couldn’t they have just gave him a hot dog or something of equal value instead?
And still lose money.
He just saw Kawhi break his team apart in the 3rd quarter
Someone just smashed my car’s window and threw a pair of Kings season tickets inside
What a terrible person.
when the mechanics were done fixing it they gave it back with 4 tickets on the seat
did they take the Raptors tickets you left as bait?
Might be my favorite Sir Charles bit. ,,When i came back there was four tickets”
Bro looks sad 😔. Kings are really putting their fans through hell
It’s all we know
The light the beam days didn’t last long
Welcome to basketball hell, as we like to say
Next season they’ll give you a spot on the team if you hit a free throw
Five years from now they’ll give you an ownership stake
If you miss you get two
I knew someone would beat me to this joke.
Feels like “Light the Beam” wasn’t that long ago
Serious question is this still a thing? I remember that was so freakin hype back then
Yes, but only for wins, which explains why you thought it might be gone.
They still light the beam, yes.
It wasn’t that long ago, until our star player forced his way out and took it public with where he wanted to go which basically tanked any and all value he had on the open trade market…. Getting us Zach Lavine and his awful contract in the process.
I wouldn’t wish LaVine and that deal on anyone.
The Magic are the new beamers
What if they are just terrible nosebleed?
Just seat hop to one of the many empty seats in the lower bowl
If they catch you doing that they send you to the jail under the stadium.
At least you’ll get to meet DeMar and Sabonis!
That’s where they kept Keon Ellis
The stadium IS the jail, watching Lavine is the ultimate punishment
Still more entertaining
Buddy this isn’t the Vet
He could also hop on the King’s bench and nobody would even notice
yeah i’ve found that, as long as you don’t try to get one of the front 5 or so rows. you can generally get away with seat hopping if you don’t draw attention to yourself (your stadium may vary)
Are there any other kinds of Kings tickets?
Pretty sure that’s true of even their floor seats.
Watching Sacramento basketball is known to cause nosebleeds.
Bad team, lots of empty seats to more. Front row of the top deck is my favorite spot outside of the first few rows
does it really matter?
Team may suck, but going to games is still fun. Plus pleanty of empty seats to get a post-1st-quarter upgrade
sitting anywhere closer to the pure stench of this team… is not an upgrade
You can cheer for the other teams. Some of them are pretty cool to watch.
Is this meant as a joke or do you sincerely not like watching NBA basketball up close?
Yeah and like the other teams are usually interesting? In their division you get multiple home games with lebron, luka, curry, kawhi, booker showing up, 1-2 home games with every other west team, and each east contender shows up once. I dont get how anyone can complain about that even if they dont like their home team
Right? I’d love to get free tix to nba basketball for a full year, regardless of how bad the team is. I’m convinced people in this subreddit prefer making jokes to actually watching basketball.
Kings found their shooter. Light the beam
That was his second attempt. I suspect they would have let him try until he got it in.
They couldn’t sell them all in Costco?
The product wasn’t moving it was about to expire. :(
I mean at least he gets to see a team better than the kings every night….
poor kid was faced with lose/lose situation.
Tyson type shit 😎
Single ticket to a Warriors, Lakers, Knicks, etc game costs more than his “season tickets”
Honestly expected him to miss on purpose and make it obvious he meant to
Pay someone to go to their game
I would brick it so hard.
Dude looks genuinely disappointed that’s his reward
This is money laundering
Kid is hella disappointed he made that bucket 😭
You are under no legal obligation to accept them. You can also do that thing where the player misses on purpose and tries to get the rebound. Don’t try to get the rebound.
Great wrist flick
Sounds like a punishment?
How about you let me run the team if I hit a half court shot for one season? Kind of like the movie Eddie with Whoopi Goldberg
If I am a King’s fan I would throw it as hard as I could over the backboard.
I don’t want to have to watch 41 games of that crap.
I’d give them back
Good for him, that’s a lot of pressure on a single free throw.
Nick Anderson could never
Sponsored by Ticketmaster and likely, comes out of their deal to pay for these seats.
They should give season tickets if you don’t make a free throw
If you make both, you get a roster spot.
At this point they just should give it away to non profit organizations
I would have the same reaction if I won season tickets to the Bulls. “Oh. Yay.”
Edit: Just looked it up… Didn’t know the Bulls 2.0 were this bad this season. His reaction makes plenty sense now.
I woulda passed the ball to shaq
He looks sad because Gen Z considers it cringe to show real emotions…
They’re whatever they can to unload tickets. You can even buy ’em at Costco.
Scouting for potential new players and fan giveaways at the same time. It’s efficient.
Kings secretly doing tryouts with halftime competitions 🤣
Is this the most common free throw ritual? I swear me and like 6 other guys at my gym do this exact same one lol
Poor guy had the worst luck. You can tell by his face he was trying to miss
He not even happy.
“We’ll be seeing a lot of him” sounds like a threat
Bro is that guy doing a Seth Rogan impersonation? Nailing it
Imagine he just chucks it into the stands and walks off
I’d take it just so I can see the other team. Probably nose bleeds
celebrated like he got subbed off in a footie match lmao
Why does he look depressed
If you hit a three they kill your parents.
When you try to miss and it accidentally goes in..
I’ve never understood why the Kings exist. Sacramento is such a random place for a pro sports franchise.
Couldn’t pay me to waste my time going to a kings game
Light the beam!
Lmao
Is that a prize or a punishment?
Poor guy.
Bring back the Rochester Royals.
Rochester native here. I have a Royals ticket stub from 1951.
