Joe Mazzulla blames himself for Celtics 20 point deficit
Love that. It’s nice contrast to the recent GMs and coaches that try to defend their mistakes by dissing their own players.
A lot easier to do when your team is the 2nd seed and way overperforming expectations but you’re right. Introspection is so important to becoming good at something.
I see your point. But I think it’s the other way around. It’s a lot easier to play well and thus seed high when you have the right people that are smart and hold themselves accountable like Brad and Mazzulla managing the team. Everyone here was predicting they tank or be in play-ins but with Brad making the right moves and Mazzulla coaching well, things just fall in place.
This has been Joes thing all along. I remember his first year a lot of fans were mad he wouldn’t call players out for poor play no matter what. Lot of fans loved that about Ime but I’m not sure that’s an approach that can sustain
I think it’s more of a sports radio type of fan take, but I’ve seen/interacted with fans who still pine for Ime, and that to me is just outing yourself as an uneducated fan.
I don’t know what more Joe can do to get these people on board, but I’m glad these idiots aren’t in charge, Joe’s the superior coach.
Oh yeah it’s a lot of Felger an Mazz types for sure.
But like it also makes me wonder how much people think about leadership and what they respond to in their lives. Maybe this is too woo woo but as a corporate drone I’ve gone through all these trainings and stuff about “servant leadership” and look at the managers and team leaders I’ve had tha have helped me the most and it’s not getting yelled at or telling me I suck at my job (or having them tell the whole company) that’s been the key.
Doc rivers would NEVER
Leave Sean Payton out of this
Only Joe Mazzulla could look at a 22-point comeback victory and decide the first half was a personal failure. His internal standard is just on another planet.
Completely different from Ime lol, that idiot will blame anyone on the team after every game before he even considers taking accountability. Today its Sengun being shit, tomorrow its Amen, next its Reed.
Celtics are so lucky he couldn’t keep his pants on
I think it was what the Celtics needed after Brad stepped down. Ime added a lot of discipline and toughness to the team. They just got outclassed in the finals and then the scandal.
Joe balances that toughness in a tremendous way without throwing players under the bus. It worked out better for all of us.
Inverse Ime
Yeah that sounds about right. Like it’s not all on him, obviously, but he was clearly trying something that didn’t work. Hell of an effort to turn things around though
I think they’ll re-visit the double big idea because they might need it in the playoffs at some point. But hopefully they will be quicker to abandon it in games where it’s not working as well.
My mans always seems coked up in the best way possible. COTY
Dude never stops to breathe while talking, he just keeps on going like he’s filled with the air of a thousand Earths lol
He said he quit chewing gum a few years back because it was negatively affecting his breathing. Paying dividends, apparently!
Those crazy eyes haha
Leaders take full responsibility for whatever happens. Even when it’s not “technically” their “fault.” Good job. Hopefully Jaylen Brown is watching. Joe Mazzulla is probably my favorite coach in the NBA at this point.
Jaylen takes accountability all the time after games…even games where us fans thought he was great, he’ll be like “I need to be better..”
I mean… you don’t really need the quotations. Coaches need to be smart enough to not be fully honest in those situations. There’s no world in which his coaching decisions made them go 1 for 20 from 3 or whatever it was in the first half. But it sounds better to everyone if he pretends that it was. It’s what people want to hear, and that’s more important than a genuine explanation. “Shooting variance and our guys were really cold” doesn’t sound as good. Play to the audience.
Joe mazzulla really is a good coach
Got the C’s surprising everyone and going to ECF.
Needs more unhinged
Well no shit Sherlock … When you put that ridiculous starting lineup out there what did you expect. The starters had 4 points at the end of the 1st quarter lol
Let’s be real, most of his starting lineups this year have been ridiculous. We just blew out the rockets starting Baylor Scheierman and Ron Harper Jr.
