I think teams have just figured out that they aren’t gonna compete without a MVP candidate level player on your team and outside of a few big markets you’re only way to get them is through the draft where your pick is randomly determined and even with a high pick you could still get unlucky.

Ideal world you basically can’t afford to have more then 1 all star level player on your team (or may be 2) and if have one of the best all stars they cost more so limit the supporting cast to balance things.

Like if you have prime Lebron budget for the rest of the team should be noticeably less then when your best player is something like prime Dame for example. But right now there is such a huge disparity in the players who still garner a max salary and its really a killer if that dude isn’t a top 5-10 player in the current NBA.

I’m in the minority, but I don’t really mind tanking. Obviously it worked out for my team, but what’s the point of the bottom ten teams competing for who’s slightly better? I think it’s kind of an interesting aspect of the game for tanking and competing seasons to alternate as teams try to get the momentum to win a chip.

It’s time to randomize the draft 1-26 and the teams that made the conference finals draft 27-30. Make the 2nd round picks be a snake draft in reverse order.

Next, give a modest cash bonus to players, coaches, and GMs based on W-L by end of season.

Next, give more incentive for players to stick with the team that drafted them. Something like the super max only counting as the regular max for cap purposes.

Lastly, get rid of player-specific or niche bets. Should just be betting on the winning team or against team against the spread.

The problem is tanking isn’t going to benefit the kings for a couple of reasons. The NBA would never allow the Sacramento Kings to secure the #1 pick and for the better part of 2 decades the GMs of this team have been vastly unsuccessful in drafting quality NBA players.

An end of season single elimination tournament would solve this.

You just need to have the right amount of handicaps to prevent good teams from tanking to just miss the playoffs.

For instance the team with the worse record can select one player from the opposing team to have to sit out.

The team with the worse record gets home court.

If you miss x amount of regular season games you are not eligible for the tournament.

I’m gonna get slapped for this, but this is why having an easy schedule to start the year doesn’t help much. When every team is trying, any NBA team can win games.

If you have a back loaded schedule with a bunch of easy games at the end, then teams will bend over themselves to give you a win.

Tanking is one way to turn the ship around, but it’s not the only way. You can win without a handful of top 5 draft picks to make a championship roster. OKC has Chet, but most of their rotation are guys who were picked outside the top 10. Giannis went in the teens. Steph, Klay, and Draymond also weren’t top 5 guys. When you tank, you risk failing to develop you talent.

Way to help fix tanking:

It you finish last (15th) in the conference - you don’t get a 1st round draft pick.

If you finished second last in the conference. You get automatically placed at the middle of the first round. Eg. 15th pick.

That way you have a fight at the bottom of each conference. 7 - 10 fight for play in. 11 - 15 fight for a draft pick. No one wants to be at the bottom.

A team that finishes last can still perform without a draft pick. They just have to be clever with their signings and hit on 2nd round picks and play harder the next year.

I want all tank teams too win, I want players finally given a chance prove themselves.
