I think he gets a lot more scrutiny than deserved bc all the conversations competing him vs wemby predraft. His actual play has been more or less on track of what is typically expected out of a third year high pick with poor injury luck imo

I go back and forth on Sharpe. I definitely see the upside. Line his first 4 seasons up against Kobe’s and it’s almost a mirror. There are still runouts where he becomes a star. On the other hand, I’m of the mindset that “all he does is score” 2 guards are the most overrated commodity in the NBA. Or maybe they were. The speed with which Poole, Schroder, Sexton, Simons, and CJ are being passed around the league indicates that decision-makers are out of love with this archetype. Mathurin just went for a ham sandwich. Now, not all of those guys are 6’6” dunking gods like Sharpe. I’m just saying, I’m not convinced he moves the needle that much yet. I don’t know if an extended absence will materially affect the W-L.

Other guys on the roster can drive (Scoot, Deni, Jrue) and other guys on the roster can hit threes (Grant, Vit, Camara). Caleb Love has some scoring ability. I think if you have to make a Sophie’s choice and lose one of the three lottery pick pillars (Sharpe/Scoot/DC), Sharpe may be the one you can most afford to keep on the sidelines for a while. Still pretty unfortunate to lose him on the literal first game back for Scoot.

I will say that Shaedon has really improved with anticipation and getting steals. Even aside from the steals on the stat sheet he usually gets a few tipped passes that end up out of bounds.

His shooting from three was not great to start the year, but has been climbing as the season has gone on. I’d like it to be more consistent though.

In terms of finishing at the rim he has the incredible ability to float. He makes some outstanding finishes at the rim purely due to his ridiculous athleticism.

At the end of the day I try to remind myself that he basically skipped college and joined the league very young. He has a lot of mileage under his belt for a young guy already. Hopefully he can put it all together and consistently have those superstar nights. If not, at least the dunks are always highlight worthy.

Only Blazers I 100% would not put on the table are Deni and Camara. After that, probably DC and Scoot. I guess 2 guards are like running backs to some extent. You can always find someone. Put Mathurin, Lavine, Schroder, or Monk in that spot and the W-L probably wouldn’t look too different. Luckily Sharpe’s contract is good and he has a higher ceiling than most 2s. For one thing, he is way bigger and more athletic than a Poole, Monk, or Sexton.

Lavine would be a good outcome for him. Lavine is a good player, just paid 2x what he should be.

This guy gets it. Been saying since last year Deni & Tou are the best players in Portland. Tou is a rare commodity in the NBA with his size, wingspan and defensive iq he can cover anybody on any night. He is near the top of the NBA in distance traveled, he is running all over the place like the Matrix causing havoc. Deni will probably be a top 10 player one day they need to sign him to a big contract. Clingan is a nice big man for his age(21) he still needs to improve in some areas but definitely a keeper. Scoot I would keep as well, he has the talent also has Dame as a mentor and a new coach.

If you don’t create/rebound/defend at a meaningful level then you need to be elite at scoring if you don’t want to be a journeyman ala LeVert or Hunter. Scoot and Sharpe had nearly identical TS% last season. Scoot’s assist numbers are significantly better. I think he has a chance to be a better defender too since he’s stronger and more aggressive on that end.

Shae is scoring at LeVert/Hunter efficiency and just masking it with high usage. For him to be a franchise cornerstone, he either needs to become more efficient or diversify his skill set to contribute in multiple facets.

Always believed in scoot. When he had a good game vs Wemby predraft, I emulate Scoot all the time lol. He probably has the tightest handles I’ve seen.
