Melton tore is ACL in November last season and came back slowly in December this season. He started returning to form in late December and has been a key player for the Warriors on both sides of the ball since. He’s a menace on defense and has been the Warriors only on-ball creator beyond Curry and Butler.

Since December 25, Melton leads in the NBA in plus/minus at +211. The next highest Warrior is Jimmy Butler at +82. The Warriors have a +25 net rating with him on the floor and -9 with him on the bench.

He’s still on a minutes restriction (24 MPG), but he started his first game of the season last night in Phoenix.

funny thing is melton wasnt even active for the first 5 games or so. The bench was just so deep they peaked at like 12-3 and then melton tears the acl. at his size he’s one of the best finishers in the league and the warriors haven’t had a single guy not named steph that can just put their head down and score under the rim through 2-3 defenders when the team just needs a bucket

poole could definitely get by defenders and finish but not as efficiently as melton since the championship run season. the warriors actually had some legit shooters that year to space the floor, opj, klay came back, wiggins. melton is doing this for the last month and a half sharing the floor with gui santos, podz, pat spencer and gp2

theres a reason melton came to the warriors for the MLE last season, but he still had a good reputation for his 3&D. Maybe the limited minutes and run with the 2nd unit for most of his season has allowed him to be fresher and play against weaker rim protectors but he hasnt been smoking layups as a warrior

I think they’ll be $24 million above the tax apron so it'll have to be a huge paycut to open up the non tax payer MLE ($14 million to offer Melton).

Otherwise Warriors will only have the tax payer MLE which is around $6 million and Melton is definitely going to get offers bigger than that

honestly those efficiency numbers are absurd. it is like a piece of code that only runs 20% of the time but prevents the whole system from crashing. smart to keep the rate limit on for now though, you never want to scale traffic too fast after a major patch like an acl repair.

Melton and the better version of his archetype, Derrick White, are extremely underrated unless you pay very close attention to everything they do on the court or look at overall impact numbers rather than simple stats.

Some people may not think they are that good if they look at the scoring volume and efficiency but in reality, they are elite at doing multiple things on the court that are not super obvious at first in the box score. They also play the way any coach would love a role player to play, which is within the offensive and defensive schemes, while making limited mistakes.
