To be fair they normally just throw Lauri/Keyonte on the injury report for a swollen left pinky toe. Its just more obvious how hard they are tanking when they keep one active.

If you look closely. Some teams do this every night. Strategically bench players or call crazy plays they know will never work. 

Watch the Mavs game from last night. Coop was going off then around the 3 minute mark they stopped giving him the ball and took a bunch of wild shots. Then you remember a few games back Caleb Martin attempting a wild dunk instead of passing to Flagg wide open under the hoop. 

Look, it makes OKC worse, so by definition this is ethical tanking.

On one hand they have been doing it for years, on the other hand thats how the Thunder became so good. You can’t hate them for trying for the top pick but I will.

Honestly Utah and Washington’s next season rosters look really good. It would be great (for them) to do 1 last season of tanking before actually trying to win. If they got to land Peterson/dybansta/boozer that go pretty hard and get them a real setup for competing.

Two things can be true: Utah is making the logical choice, and the fact that the logical choice is purposefully losing basketball games really sucks for fans and the league.

Yeah don’t blame the team blame the system. The shittier your team the better draft pick you get. You have every incentive to tank if your team isn’t any good. Fining teams isn’t going to solve shit, your need to change the incentive structure if you want to fix tanking.

Now they probably should fix it because the product is unwatchable in the latter half of the year and it’s way easier to lead to gambling scandals if you don’t have a reason to try. But easier said than done, I have no idea what the solution is.

Coaches deliberately throwing games is bad for the league. Building a shit roster for the purpose of tanking is one thing, but benching your best players in crunch time is shameless.

This is worse than what the Sixers did. The Sixers players and coaches actually tried to win, they just had rosters full of mostly young players who weren’t good enough to be competitive. The Process Sixers never actively tried to lose on the court.

I mean ya’ll started this shit. Quite literally made the league change the lottery odds to discourage it. You ended up with multiple top 3 picks in the draft and were able to build a playoff roster doing it. You have no reason to be upset.

Occasional Tank battles are maybe tolerable, but Siakam has already played 10 more games than Laurie, is competing his ass off, and made an all-star team because of it. People want to see the best play and Laurie has been hidden away from fans for 2+ years basically.

Also this team with JJJ could be very competitive the rest of the season, way more so than most other tanking teams, but everyone knows that isn’t going to happen and it isn’t even the all star break.

Spurs for example happened to get Wembanyama so people just forget how gross their tanking was the year they got him. But if they didnt get him, you can bet they would’ve kept it going

I agree with you. I do think the jazz are tanking (obviously) but it’s not any more blatant or egregious than every other team at the bottom of the league. People just hate the state of utah and danny ainge.

They haven’t given anyone a “Rest Day” when another Lottery team show up on the schedule nor have they pulled their starters in the 2nd half to tip the scales in their favor, I’m rooting for them to do that all especially for these next 3 matches up, btw. I don’t know if they will but I’m hoping that they do and The Pelicans aren’t tanking, they have no reason too. They’re just really bad.

I don’t think teams should be punished when they tank by trading away all of their good players. I think they should be punished when they tank by having their coach throw games.
