The Lakers have always been over the cap. Salary spending wasn’t part of their problems, it’s been everything else. The Buss family doesn’t cheap out of player spending, they cheap out on everything else, so that’s where the new owners will make a difference in. Plus, with the way the cap is structured, it’s not smart to go over the 2nd apron due to the non-monetary repercussions.

Edit: I stand corrected. A comment suddenly made me remember all the times we let go of key players. I’m amending my opinion to be that the Lakers don’t cheap out on STARS. We’ve always liked signing the big names for better or worse.
