Their best player is coming off arguably one of the worst injuries an athlete can have and their second best player is gonna be in his mid 30s when these picks start to convey.

They are really banking on that pick hitting this year and drafting someone good.

People were saying stuff like this about the grizzlies 4 years ago and look where they are now. You can’t predict the future that far out

I don’t know if we can do ‘presumably’ - they’re one of four teams right now with only 13 wins (not including the Kings with 12) and have a much better roster than the Nets and Wizards who will now be turbo tanking. Even if the lottery happened today, with them ahead of the Nets/Wizards in the lottery, it would only be a 52% chance that they get a top-4 pick.

An unprotected first far in the future is always valuable for trades no matter what. Also Siakem and Zubac will both be gone by then and Hailburton will be well into his thirties it’s risky.

It’s not that bad of a gamble. The Pacers are bad, but may not be able to out tank the Pelicans, Nets, and Kings.

If it falls in the 5-9 range, does the Pacer still get the 2026 pick and they give the 2031 pick to the Clippers?

Well, or they think that the drop-off from 1-4 to 5-9 is worth it.

Hardly. They either have Zubac and a top 4 pick this year or Zubac and all their assets for future trades (save the 29 pick). This is a franchise that doesn’t tank and whose highest pick since 1988 was 7. Pacers FRP is historically lower value than the traditional crappy teams.

The problem is they could literally lose every single game and still could have a decent chance of dropping to 5 or 6 like Utah and Washington last year

Eh, have to wait till the lottery to main that assertion. If the pacers get a top 4 pick they get zubac and a very good frp for the price of possibly a 2031 low 1st when they’ll probably still be competitive

If the Clippers are really going full rebuild and this years Pacers pick doesn’t convey, they won’t own their FRPs until 2030

Because the GM in place now may not be the GM in place in 5 years if it doesn’t convey this year.

People have a hard time about caring about things that may happen in the future

Pacers highest pick since 1988 was 6th. They’re a franchise that doesn’t tank or go into the luxury tax. Could it end up being a crazy scenario like this year? Sure, but it’s historically anomalous to fix a massive gap on a team that was within an Achilles tendon of a championship.

Interesting, I think I have little clue about Hali + Zubac PnR. Doesn’t hali excel at hitting roll man early, pushing tempo and throwing like anticipatory passes before the defense set? Feels like that kinda isn’t a natural fit for Zubac who likes/needs delayed, methodical delivery through contact?

Still he’s only going to be RFA and its him ALONG with two unprotected first round picks. Considering there’s been virtually been no unprotected first rounders traded so far at the deadline I’m not sure how Zubac became worth two of them.

I just don’t know if the risk was worth it for a player like Zubac, who is an extremely solid role player, but role player at the end of the day. And the general consensus has been that this is a deep draft while being elite at the top, and the Pacers were in the perfect position to capitalize on what was an unfortunate injury to Haliburton and try to potentially get another all-star caliber player through the draft. They still could, but they just introduced unnecessary risk in the midst of a transition season.

That’s why he sucks, glad he’s gone either way.

Zubac absolutely is not worth a top ten pick no matter how slice it.

I wouldn’t be too mad at it, for every suspect trade we seem to have a great prospect lol.
