I’m not mad at all with the moves we’ve made, I think this was a solid deadline day for us. That said, Giannis is Giannis, if he truly was available and wanted to come here we had to do it. KAT was also Ant’s friend and I can’t see him too upset at getting to play with Giannis.

Don’t think we’ll have what it takes to try for him in the offseason, he’s probably going elsewhere, but it was worth a shot right now.

Trading everything for a 2-3 year window has backfired for basically every team that’s attempted it this decade.

Maintaining a solid supporting cast around a single young Superstar and hoping you get lucky one year has been much more reliable. Plus, the fans still get to watch exciting basketball for a decade, even if the team doesn’t get lucky with opposing injuries!

As a masochist who’s favorite two teams of the past 2 decades has been Hornets & Timberwolves, I can definitively say that a ton of fans vastly underrate the value of consistently good playoff basketball!

For real. I was torn - only Jokic has made a bigger impact than Giannis over the last 5-7 years, and he’s quietly having the best offensive season of his career. I would have been so excited to land Giannis. But it would have been a risk, and we would have had to significantly shorten our window.

And we are so loyal to the guys who would have had to been moved. Love the Ayo trade and props to TC recognizing Dillingham was a sunk cost and we still needed to fill that role.

Even if Giannis was somehow the better move on paper, the team chemistry would be decimated long term

I mean if you guys could have gotten Giannis for just Naz and Jaden I’m sure you would have done it and that would have been an awesome deal for you guys. I think the issue is Milwaukee wanted even more than that which to your point would just leave you guys in such a bad spot depth wise

I just can’t think Minnesota’s offer is appealing to the Bucks.

People really need to think it through from the Bucks perspective.

They are in picks hell the next four years. If they’re awful–and there isn’t a trade that keeps them realistically competitive and playoff caliber–then they’re sending good lottery picks to Portland for four years.

Any trade scenario for Giannis should start with–what trade has the realistic potential to a) get them their own picks rights back from Portland or b) get them equivalent high end lottery picks equal to their own over the next few years, so if their pick falls to 2 in the draft and goes to Portland, then they’re getting the 1st or 3rd from the Giannis trade.

Having said that, the Wolves did well getting a critical need in Ayo.

I’d assume if they were having those talks, it was okay’d by Ant.

At least you’d hope so. Not consulting your franchise cornerstone on a franchise altering trade would be quite odd.

I did not want to trade Giannis for any 2 of Jaden/Randle/Naz.

Trading for a guy who’s 31 with an injury history seems like a potential trap (ask the Mavericks about that one!)

I don’t think so. Jon K is very connected as the local Wolves reporter. He never indicated anything was remotely close to happening. The Wolves needed other teams to get involved to facilitate and I don’t think other teams would give them the assets they needed. The national media loves to embellish and aggregators love to embellish even more to create drama and clicks.
