He also does the thing where he leverages his genuinely exceptional strength to play really physically just to bait his defender into matching his physicality. As soon as his defenders do, he then “pulls the chair” and doesn’t resist at all the next time they collide to draw easy fouls when he’s posting up.
None of it’s against the rules, and it’s indeed pretty savvy, but it’s also just shitty to watch because you know exactly what he’s doing (and if you don’t try to match his physicality, he will just go through you for an easy bucket). Fucked if you do, fucked if you don’t.

He was literally the local Celtics commentator that’s his entire job.
I can see how he was loved by Celtics fans. He was a Celtics lifer. But just listening to him as a fan of the basketball and not the Celtics, it was hard to listen to. There are other color commentators for specific teams who did a way better job hiding the bias.
I can absolutely understand how it wouldn’t be enjoyable for other team’s fans. At the same time it could get so ridiculous, and over the top, that it almost had a comedic element to it too.
At the end of the day the NBA is entertainment, that we all take more seriously than it deserves to be, and Heinsohn was playing the part of the Heel. Not a pro wrestling cartoonish villain type heel, but an affable homer, unmoved by any video evidence that conflicted with what he “knew” or saw. It was his way of filling the air space during the game.
