Anthony Edwards: “Jaden McDaniels do what he do, man. Every night in, every night out, man. We depend on him a lot for our offense and defense, so he’s a key piece for us.”
they got giannis but we got jaden mcdaniels
I cant believe we’ve reached a stage were there’s hesitancy to let go of a very good role player like Jaden McDaniels for arguably the best player in the NBA. This would be like the Cavs in 08 hesitant to lose someone like Mo Will for Dwight Howard.
Jaden McDaniels is a far better player than Mo Williams was.
I still trade him for Giannis 10 times out of 10, but that’s not a great comparison.
If the trade was Jaden for Giannis - yes, obviously. But sounds like it’s closer to Jaden + Randle + Beringer for Giannis.
If you promised me we’d get 3 years of healthy, elite Giannis out of that I would do it, but I’m a little nervous about the calf injury and how his game is going to age. Ultimately, this team’s best shot at winning a title is still going to be in like 2-5 years when Ant is in his prime - we should be planning for that window.
There’s no guarantee that Ant’s prime is actually in 2-3 years, injuries happen all the time (just look at Jayson Tatum, who had an injury at the age Ant will be in 3 years, but there are endless examples).
And even ignoring that part, your roster is clearly geared towards competing now with Randle being 31 and Gobert turning 34 this season. If the best time to compete is in 3 years, it will be with a completely different roster.
So why not go for it now when you are in the middle of a guaranteed contention window? That doesn’t have to mean a Giannis trade, but very few contention windows are actually as long as you are proposing (since Ant’s essentially started 2 years ago)
If the best time to compete is in 3 years, it will be with a completely different roster.
I get that, but I also feel like that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The team could be great in 3 years with an entirely different group around Ant. It’s impossible to say right now, and to me that means the they shouldn’t be desperate to sell off everything they can to maybe improve their shot immediately.
I absolutely despise the thought that yesterday’s trade was just to get them under the first apron but it does give them a lot of flexibility to remake the roster in the years ahead. Maybe it’s pure cope, but as long as Ant is around I feel like there are a lot of future iterations of the lineup that result in contenders.
So why not go for it now when you are in the middle of a guaranteed contention window?
Because Ant is 24, we’ve just been to two Conference Finals and the West is tough as shit. We’d be trading away Ant’s chances in a few years time for a team that might not even be favourites to win the West.
The Big Three era seems dead with the new CBA, Ant + Jaden + Naz are a great core to carry forward and as long as they’re surrounded well they should be in a position to compete. They’re all under contract, they’re all young .We have enough to wait for a bargain because we’ll be competing while waiting anyway.
Giannis on the cheap would be a no brainer. The Bucks demanding a price that a player of his talents should makes our future 15% brighter but 50% shorter, risks the chemistry, has potential for FA drama next year with Giannis and it still leaves us needing to beat at least two excellent teams in the playoffs just to improve on last year.
There is no need to take this risk now
“Far better” Mo was an All Star in his prime. And even if you want to discount that, it proves he was an upper tier role player just like Jaden. Why are you acting like he’s some dude with Superstar potential exactly?
Nah, Mo Williams is a better regular season scorer but Jaden McDaniels is a proven guy in the playoffs. Mo Williams was a Rajon Rondo (and any PG whose good off the dribble) abuse victim and turnstile. Comparing small guards (rarely useful vs elite teams) to switchable wings (incredibly useful in every situation) is just a tough comparison.
That being said, you absolutely get Giannis for Jaden, he’s potentially a top 15 guy ever still in his prime.
We have 6 viable rotation players maybe 7 with bones, & Giannis is gonna cost at least 2 of em
You would also be going from 1 top 10 players to 2 top 10 players.
1 of which has had some trouble staying healthy in recent years. Obviously Giannis is elite and I would love to have him on the Wolves, but let’s not pretend there isn’t some significant risk when you trade some outsanding roles players and all of your depth for an injury prone star.
We literally just saw this blow up with the KD era Suns. The game has changed, it’s now longer pair superstars and figure the rest out.
Absolutely. The game has gone away from a top heavy roster to a more deep roster. I wouldn’t blame us for going for it, but I don’t think it’d be the right move. I’ll always take management trying to win rather than not. It’s a pickle. Just gotta trust TC
As a Nuggets fan I’m hoping you go for it because the Wolves of the past beat the Nuggets by depth.
And if they make the move they believe that Clark, Shannon, and Dillingham can step into real minutes. I would trust everyone except Dilly. I think it’s a net gain besides any injury. If Giannis would get injured, we’d be fish in a barrel.
Weird posting that as a Lakers fan, considering.
Why may I ask?
Because when yall got Luka, it could be argued you had 2 top 10 level players. Hasn’t really changed anything because of the depth of the team. If the Wolves get Giannis, itll be similar
I hear ya but you’d be playing a lot of bodies at that point. Maybe it still works, but idk
Because it wouldn’t just be Jaden.
Why does anyone think that if you acquire Giannis, you’re automatically in title contention? The Bucks aren’t donating Giannis, they’re asking for a fuck ton back and the Wolves don’t have picks to give back…. so we gotta give good players away (probably to 3rd/4th teams in the trade for picks to MIL) to get a great player back. How many good players can we send out before Giannis + Ant is running with a bare bones cast?
It’s disgusting this comment has upvotes. This dingus is really comparing Mo Williams to Jaden McDaniels lmao
It all comes down ti cap space. You can have either have multiple Jaden McDaniels or one Giannis.
Holy shit these are not even remotely similar
best player? He is not even top 3 this year.
Translation: The front office better not trade him.
Giannis is staying in Milwaukee until the offseason folks
He loves Jaden no doubt but he’s also done this in interviews for years. He shouted out multiple other players contributions tonight before Jaden’s. He always likes shouting out anyone who had a great night.
All that being said I wouldn’t read into it too much, but I want to keep Jaden
He loved KAT like a brother
Alternate translation: Jaden McDaniels is worth a lot more than the other Giannis trade packages. Bucks should trade for him.
“Jaden McDaniels, and also Julius Randle are the greatest players of all time, I would be extremely distraught if I were to lose both of them within, say, the next 24 hours or so”
“in fact, I would indeed be so distraught that I cannot fathom going on—in that hypothetical situation, mind you—unless I were to have the chance to play next to a top 10 player in the world, preferably on the tall side and based out if Wisconsin”
Ant doesn’t really play games. He’s not trained, nor appears to have interested in being that way. He genuinely loves playing with Jaden.
Ant said shit like this about KAT all the time and it didn’t stop them from trading him. This doesn’t change anything.
They don’t make trades based on who ANT likes. He likes everybody.
Yeah and Ant is so competitive, he’ll play next to anybody if they fight hard and don’t suck.
Anthony, wearing the Raptors towel, clearly he is coming to the Raptors
Idk about that chief.
I think he’s trying to butter him up to get Giannis
He truly loves Jaden McDaniels. He always brings him up anytime he can
Jaden is his favorite player. He says this all the time.
Because Jaden is a baller. He’s not just a box score. He’s on the court with him, and he knows how valuable he is.
They’ve known each other since they were both McDonalds All Americans in high school (where Jaden got a big block on Ant in the game) and were taken in the same draft by the Wolves. They don’t know what it’s like to be a pro without the other and are very close. I think Ant would be devastated to lose Jaden even if he understands why. (Naz too - those three are very tight.)
Does everyone just take the raptors towels
It’s a nice towel
I want one
He would look good in that raptors red man i cant lie
Don’t bring that on me. With the Luka trade, I’m scared man, but I trust in Tim Connelly.
Don’t put that evil on me
ESPN: Ant says McDaniels is “key piece” for Giannis trade
Losing McDaniels for Giannis will hurt the team a lot imo. Crucial glue guy on a championship team
Crucial glue guy ON A WHAT?!
A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM GODDAMMIT
me when i forget how to read words that begin with the letter C: “a WHAT glue guy on a WHAT team?”
this shit slayed me lmfao
Giannis is literally a top 20 player all time in his prime lol
This subreddit have made Giannis really underrated all of a sudden imo. Some people think Brunson is better lol
Brunson is so overrated he gets the least flack for his bad defense of any of the superstar bad defensive guards
They’re gutting the team if they get giannis, not just mcdaniels
Why does everyone skip over this part.
fr, obviously we’d trade Jaden McDaniels in a 1-1 trade for Giannis no brainer
Giannis is a freak, and unbelievably talented. His prime is questionable. The Bucks would not be trading him if that was the case. Giannis relies a ton on his physicality. If his body doesn’t hold up, that value drops. He plays a game that wouldn’t age gravefully
My worry with a Giannis trade is that the Wolves already have bad depth and I think these past few years have shown that you can’t just have a few superstars and absolutely nothing around them. If they trade for Giannis, will they even be able to have more than 5 reliable playoff guys? You need more than that in the playoffs nowadays (probably would like 8 reliable and playable guys at minimum).
You’re not wrong. Unless we get Giannis for two pieces (which I doubt), we would be decimated. Giannis is not reliable enough to keep a competitive roster in the long term. I’d rather keep our core and add more depth.
Riiiiiiiggggghhhhttt
Giannis had 50 points 14 rebounds and 5 blocks in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
They ain’t close to a championship team
They’ve made the conf finals two years in a row….they’re a lot closer to a championship team than most. They always play Denver and OKC well, Ant growing his game every year.
They had no shot against OKC last year and their position in the west has gotten worse this year.
They just took down OKC not that long ago, when they’re locked in they can beat anyone in the west. Not saying they will, but they’re one of the few teams that has the sheer talent to win one, absolutely. Sucks they don’t play in the soft ass East
They don’t have the talent to win one
Oh ok, well now that you say that, I’m so convinced. Lmao.
On this date last season the Wolves were 27-23. This year they are 32-20.
Little closer than the bucks tho
Giannis got a ring, Ant/Jaden can’t get to the finals
We actually won one
Shout out to the guy earlier today who said, “To make Ant happy, Minnesota will need to trade McDaniels and whoever else it takes to bring in Giannis.”
Ya goober.
Call them a goober again just to solidify it
Giannis aint moving til the summer
I’m with you. If he’s injured, it doesn’t make much sense to move on him now. It’s too late to incorporate into an offense in March. That type of move would end up better for everybody in the off-season
We got Jaden, so we okay then.
Jaden “Key Piece” McDaniels.
He ain’t gettin’ traded today. Bet on it.
Love Ant’s leadership. Always giving flowers to his teammates, doesn’t take much credits and takes responsibility and blames himself even though when he didnt cost the loss. He’s truely your fav player’s fav player.Nba stars wants to go minny just to pair up with ant.But i think ant should hold everyone accountable so the same mistakes don’t happen again. That’s how he can be even better leader and influence for a championship mindset to his teammates
He also hyped up Bones and Divencenzo here
He’s gassing up his value so they don’t have to give as much for Giannis
Opposite bud
Should’ve dropped the /s
McDaniels is a problem for us every time we play you. What is your hope, any moves at all?
Give up on Giannis and pivot to a pg like Ayo
Couldn’t make it anymore obvious to the Front Office. I love that!
mcdaniels is good but Timberwolves will probably win the title if they get Giannis.
Theyd have necessary depth to replenish and teams usually need more than a couple months to build up championship chemistry. Even the LeBron Heat needed a year.
Our roster would be awful though, it would be Ant and Giannis and nothing else. We are already thing and only have 6 guys
?? interesting take
Yeah like I love my wolves but Bucks, rightfully so, want a lot for Giannis. I don’t think we got a lot to give for that and it’s not like we can have our pick of the litter this draft class lol.
the wolves have made it to the wcf two years in a row for a reason, i’m not so sure gutting the team for giannis would be the smart decision. then again, if yall manage to get him and keep key players like naz reid and mcdaniels, then it’s different
It’s mostly a composition problem IMO. McDaniels and Reid are great 3 point shooters and have complementary skill sets. Giannis is the greatest slasher of all time but the spacing with that isn’t super attractive on a team with Rudy, Julius, and Ant.
Julius would not be a timberwolf anymore if that trade happened tbf
Nice way to say goodbye
Unless he’s brokering for an even swap, he is signaling, “don’t fuck with what we have right now. I put in so much goddamn work to build this middy into my game and elevate everything for a reason.”
To get knocked out of the playoffs again… got it
Wolves fans seem content on being a 3x WCF loser.
That’s what a team should be. Not claiming every spotlight. But sharing it to other.
It’s honestly Ant’s best quality. He really does value teammates. It seems like he has a real feel for navigating personalities. He’s arrogant, but also knows he is on a team, and isn’t alone. That’s rare.
Good on Ant improving Jaden’s stock.
They have Giannis but we have Jaden McDaniels is what Edwards should have said.
Jaden not available in a Giannis deal according to Ant
Man depends
