We have a bad ass rookie who looks to be a future multiple time all star and I still can’t even bring myself to watch. I was a fan in the 90s when the team was a joke you’d get laughed at for following them instead of watching the Bulls on WGN. I’d take them on NBA Jam TE and go at you with bum ass Terry Davis. That run was something special. What really stood out to me was Kyrie’s defense, especially against the Clippers. He was an absolute menace just disrupting whatever LAC wanted to do, regardless of who had the ball. He was jumping lanes, feinting at pokes, and just pressuring the Clippers to abandon plays over and over. I lost track of how many times he forced someone to pick up their dribble in a bad spot or burn shot clock they didn’t want to burn. A lot of this stuff doesn’t show up in the box scores, but man, that kind of dirty work, combined with clutch buckets whenever they needed one … fuck I wish they got a ring out of that squad.

I remembered the 2nd game was crazy and was in the middle of us trialing some devil magic 4th quarters before the playoffs lol. Looked it up and we were down 7 with a minute left. Hali didn’t play, PJ was cooking us as your first option.
That was a crazy couple weeks. We had Tyrese’s 4 pt play against Milwaukee, Obi going 4⁄4 from 3 in ot with starters out in Minnesota, and a big comeback against Brooklyn. Really felt like we couldn’t lose close games and that confidence carried to the playoffs
They did but to be fair, Kidd also was randomly not playing Gafford or Lively the same minutes in those matchups in 2024. It was during an experiment phase where he was playing a ton of Maxi small ball.

Last years Thunder is not better than the 2024 Celtics. There is a world of difference between the two offensive ceiling. Thunder were not a very good shooting team and the 2024 Celtics were an all time great shooting team while having multi-positional defensive versatility across the board. Didn’t reach 2025 Thunder level defense, but they still were dominant defensively.
One of the highest point differentials all time and only lost 3 playoff games and no series went more than 5. It was an all time team.

Kyrie is the perfect #2 option for guys like Luka and Lebron. They can control every aspect of the game when they have the ball in their hands, and when they need to take a couple of plays off, they can just give Kyrie the ball and have him self create for a few possessions.

People act like it was a sure thing, but forget that Luka’s perimeter defense was absolutely atrocious in the Finals and it took PJ Washington turning into Reggie Miller for them to beat the Thunder. I still would have had OKC, Denver, San Antonio, and maybe Houston and Minnesota above them in the West. This is coming from a Mavs fan.
