Of course AD would then get injured that game and the reality of the trade became very obvious. AD would continue the cycle of ramping up, playing for a few games, and then inevitably picking up minor injuries and needed to rehab again. Now he has picked up an injury that will very likely require season ending surgeory.

The cycle you mentioned is so accurate - feels like every time AD starts looking good, something happens. Surgery rumors are brutal too, especially this early in season.

Another aspect is what would he do without the nba season cycle. Nothing on earth compares to being in the league, which is why some players hang on way too long.

Also it’s probably a good thing for him to leave the Mavs medical staff. I dk what they’re doing down there, but they can’t keep their players healthy. And I’ve seen them bring back players earlier several times already which cost them re-aggravation

He’s only 32. It’s not impossible for him to return to being an all-nba DPOY for a couple years. He’s roughly the same age Kevin Garnett was when the Celtics traded for him. This would be like trading KG in 2009 while he was injured while his trade value was all time low instead of getting him back for a few more years of contending and trading him for 1sts in his late 30s.

Seems like maverick fans were in a rush to make this the absolute biggest failure they possibly could so I’m happy for them they are getting what they wanted and losing Davis for damn near nothing. Nice job guys! You did it!

A torn achilles is something you can repair. A broken bone is something that can be repaired. A torn ACL is something that can be repaired.

The accumulation of nagging injuries, that can’t really even be treated and you just hope get better with rest, are the injuries that keep injury prone players from being able to string together a series of healthy games and healthy seasons.

Saying AD’s value is at a low now would imply you think his value will be higher in the future, because he will be healthy. It’s simply irrational to think his value will ever be higher than it is now.
