I always find this so stupid. Players should get free throws when they’re being fouled, not because of their seniority or their place in the pecking order. Players hate the refs but also want them to help pad THEIR stats and not anyone elses.

A lot of these guys are former players or coaches who have literally been told this by the refs.
I feel like calling fouls very differently in regular vs playoffs kinda makes sense, logically, when I think about it. Where one of the NBA’s main goals of the regular season is to keep all the stars as healthy and injury free as possible all the way to the playoff season, so you’d do what you can to protect them more.
But then once playoffs hit, all gloves come off and you just want the all star players to go absolutely ham and play super aggressively. Since they’ll then have the entire off season to recover and it’s way better for ratings vs infinite foul snoozefest games.
Yeah but players play harder in the playoffs, which results in more physicality and contact. If they were to call playoff games the same as regular season games players would get into foul trouble way too fast.

The problem is that Coop absolutely has been getting a “rookie whistle” all season, I can think of two games off the top where he got a decent whistle, and I’m still not sure if I’d call this last game one of those. The Celts were fouling Coop over and over.

Brown values getting the bucket over drawing the contact. Monta Ellis was similar back in the day. You’d look at the drive rate and the free throws on paper and it doesn’t add up, but when you watch both of those guys play, they’re often adjusting their shot to get around the contact. So it’s just not gonna get called as much.

Beyond just the academic stuff, you have Jaylen Brown claiming to be a multi-instrumentalist and polyglot. Try to find a video of him playing an instrument with any type of proficiency. I don’t know why the refs completely changed how they were calling the game, but Flagg’s whistle was abysmal for about the first 2⁄3 of the game, if anything it evened out.
