Wemby on Desmond Bane’s elbow and physicality: “They do that because they don’t want to play a basketball game. Our job on offense is to make it a basketball game”
Completely off topic but this guys widows peak is insane
Vegeta Wembanyama
Rival of Lukakorrot and Piccolokic
LeBron as BroLe
Kawhi as Android 16
This doesn’t work. Android 16 would have loved planting trees.
Perhaps Harden. He loves him some birds.
Kawhi is Android 64 or fewer games
This was fucking funny, thank you
Does this mean Maxi is Krillin? That one teammate that’s always with Lukakorrot lmao
Frieza is SGA
Don’t ask me to explain why or how
You guys are really gonna hate when Sga finds his “golden” form.
With the announcement of Super returning… just watch out for Frieza black. About to gut check the shit out of the league
I always thought Derek Fisher looked like Frieza lol
So a bunch of Thunder are the Ginyu force?
Dwight Powell is Chaozu
Steph is Gohan.
*Gohan if he had stuck to fighting and maximized his potential.
I think Derrick Rose fits more with the Gohan we actually got
Steph as Mystic Gohan (with his potential unlocked).
I think Derrick Rose is more like Future Gohan (sans arm) sadly.
Agreement and acceptance of terms
I hate what they did to his timeline. SS2 Gohan vs Perfect Cell was peak
You’re not wrong. I might have to go back and watch through DBZA again. They started out being so goofy and by the end it turns out they were just better DBZ, I’d say somewhere around Tien’s Kikoho against SPC.
It don’t fit with the rest, but Steph is Gohan. No son of Luka but could be the stongest by far, but repeatedly gets shafted by the series (league).
Yes Piccolokic, we see the fit.
Why does this work for them too.
this explains the power up after the.dunk
The Last Air Defender
“I AM THE PRINCE OF ALL MONKS”
Grand Moff Wemby
Picolo Vegetanyama
He should shave his hair into an arrow like the last airbender
This would lowkey go hard
it would unapologetically go hard hahah
I mean bro are you watching this clip? He’s pretty much already there lol
which NBA mascot is the most like a flying bison?
Bros gonna be moving metals with his mind soon
You’re not ready for mistborn Wemby.
“And Wemby PUSHED”
V for Wembanyama
W for Wendetta
Wef Jam Wendetta.
Unrelated but the comment above reminded me of Inspectah Deck - Vendetta and I just had to share because I loved this beat as soon as I heard it years ago
That’s like the 10th most genetically outstanding thing about him.
Tim Duncan had a widows peak too 👀
He looks just like Tim when he looks down a bit when he’s shaven or has the buzz cut, it’s kinda scary lmao
Going full Eddie Munster
This shit ain‘t nothing to him, man
Its an avatar thing
balrog from street fighter ass
It’s always something off topic or just someone tryna be funny at the top comment instead of related to the actual post. Used to be funny at first but after a while it just gets a lil annoying
TIL wtf widows peak is. Thanks
norwood 3
His basketball peak is equally insane
Dudes looking like he’s the last air bender in disguise
The Airbender Arrow from Avatar.
bane lucky he hasnt actually hurt any of the tier 1 superstars with his dumb shit
hasn’t actually hurt any of them yet. bane’s gonna keep doing this shit cause the league hasn’t indicated any sort of punishment for him
League can’t punish a supervillain like that, have you seen his big meaty claws?
Bane’s like a Great Value supervillain. He’s not entertaining like Brooks or Draymond. He’s just a moron with impulse control issues.
But top shelf villain name.
You find Draymond entertaining?
maybe Theatrical was the right word?
how could you not? best heel ever. have to be an incredibly dull person or just takes things too seriously to believe otherwise lol
Real shit he slammed Carter Bryant on the court last night, was hard to see if he hit the back of his head or not. Like why?..
So like Bane?
What did you just say punk?!
BIG
MEATY
CLAWS
WELL, THESE CLAWS AREN’T FOR JUST ATTRACTIN’ MATES!
BRING IT ON, OLD MAN! BRING IT ON!
No people, let’s be smart and bring it off
lu dort as well, especially against superstars
Uhh Lu Dort has 100% taken out multiple tier 1 star players at this point.
He’ll block you now, we had a similar conversation before and he immediately blocked me when I answered his question. xD
Who, Lu Dort?
Dort is taking out an all-star or superstar this playoffs 1000%
He’s absolutely wreckless on purpose. Bane looks like he lets the impulsive how apologetic and random he is with it lmao, its completely diff. IMO after seeing both
I feel like the league should find some way to really punish reckless behavior like his. Imagine we lose years of some superstar cause this fucking moron crashes into their knees or something.
Do you want him back?
Are magic fans unhappy with his play? I know he started off quite slow but he’s picked it up recently and he does so much that the magic need, shoots, playmakes, handles the ball but can play off ball, and dirty as fuck “physical”.
It’s not so much his production. For some reason this Magic team just looks like a mess anytime both Franz and Suggs sit, and I tend to hold it against players who make negative plays just because they’re struggling to make positive plays. Too often I see Bane doing really stupid things (“physicality”, bad shots, stupid fouls) trying to feed his ego when it’s bruised from shooting poorly or the team losing.
Like, you’re telling me this team added a 20 ppg, 5 APG, 40% from deep shooter and it’s worse than the previous year? Sometimes it’s not the just the numbers you put it, it’s also what you contribute as far as attitude. Maybe that’s the issue. Maybe he’s just changed the dynamic in Orlando.
I mean I hear you, but whenever Bane is on the floor the Magic offense is much better. Stats say so and from the few games I watched the eye test back this up as well.
From the looks of it, Bane is not the main problem there.
Oh, no, Bane isn’t the main problem, but I also don’t know that he’s contributing to winning as much as one might expect. He was brought in to help smooth over the loss of either Paolo or Franz to injury, and the truth is that the team just can’t hold itself together without Franz (and Suggs to an almost equal degree).
I’m definitely not being serious in suggesting that they pull the plug on Bane, and I am kind of just venting over the disappointing season, but I do think this is the perfect opportunity for the entire Orlando organization to get real about this roster and what type of team it’s going to be, from the FO down to the training staff and in-arena product. I’m just kind of tired for cheering for a second rate organization that’s had more good fortune than it deserves and continues to find new ways to waste it.
I feel like the play where he checked Wemby last night also pissed the Spurs off. It was a 5 point game when he did that, gave the Spurs free points and the Spurs seemed to lock in more on defense after that, and the Magic just couldn’t make any runs in the 4th.
Pissing your opponent off and motivating them to kick it up a gear when they’re exhausted might not show up in the stat sheet but it’s a very real thing in games.
Oh, you mean opposing teams tend to rally around defending their superstar when he’s cheap shotted?
Yeah, this is exactly what i mean.
I’m still shocked by the dodgeball throw at OG lol, not really a dangerous play but the most unnecessary immature thing I’ve seen in a long time. Dude has no composure I lost a lot of faith in him amounting to anything more than what he is
I’d like to see him do to Jokic what he did to Wemby last night.
It’s a vicious circle because the more he gets beat up the more he feels he needs to sell the contact. If he does nothing then teams will just get away with it, but turning into a flopper is a horrible alternative too.
NBA needs to address this phenomenon because it’s not good for the game. If certain big men mean the rules no longer apply for defenses, it will only encourage more flopping. It’s a lose lose
Edit: wanna add that I am not the type of fan who condemns any player for flopping. I have a “don’t hate the player, hate the game” mentality. It’s a league issue. I think players can flop for different reasons but ultimately is a bad product that no one wants to see. However, the league rewards the behavior so I am not gonna hate on any individual for simply trying to take advantage of the exploits and be competitive within the given circumstances and set of rules.
If he does nothing then teams will just get away with it, but turning into a flopper is a horrible alternative too.
Big reason why Jokic sells contact and then gets called a flopper by everyone who hates him.
this applies to every single person in the league who flops. which is also every single person in the league
Idk Harden hooking dudes arms when he would drive to the paint was unnecessary
But theres legit a front page post of jokic hooking arms lmfao
Yeah but it’s more consequential for a ball-dominant player like Jokic and the fact that teams’ entire game plans for him is to just hack him unapologetically.
Imo players like Harden, Bron, Luka, SGA all proactively flop because they are seeking the out of position defenders.
Bigs who flop like this do it reactively because they get harassed all game.
Edit: yes I agree LeBron does not actually flop like the rest of the list. I get it.
Jokic routinely clamps the arms of out-of-position defenders.
agreed as a nuggets fan, but i still (& my opinion isn’t worth much since i’m a nuggets fan which i recognise) will die on the hill that jokic’ getting hacked/flopping ratio is a LOT higher than sga, bron (only recently though, bron got legitimately hacked a ton in his prime), luka, …
if you watched game 7 against OKC as an unbiased fan and did not walk away thinking it was ridiculous how caruso was allowed to defend him idk what to tell you lol even my friend who’s been a die hard okc fan since their rebuild started said they were blessed by the refs (but also said they’d have won anyways which is fine lol)
Yeah, that’s the nature of bigs. Refs allow a lot more contact for bigs.
Jokic gets hacked all the time. He’s enormous, strong as shit, plays near the basket a lot, and is ridiculously good. He also manhandles players all the time in the paint without being called.
Jokic is also drawing slightly more fouls than SGA this season: 9.2 per 100 possessions for Jokic and 8.9 for SGA. And Wemby draws more fouls than either of them at 10.5.
I think Wemby gets fouled more than any player I’ve ever seen at his age. He’ll routinely have plays during a game where he’s being fouled by multiple defenders at the same time and he doesn’t even have the ball.
Bron is a little bit of an outlier here no? His ability to drive to the basket, which he has done repeatedly for the last 22 years, has historically not been rewarded by a lenient whistle. He had a ‘history’ of flopping thanks to this.
Imo he’s been a lenient flopper.
I think you make a fair point and compared to the flopping we see today, he was definitely never nearly as bad.
He just paved the way lol
I’m always fascinated to see how people navigate the difficult position of excusing flops for some players while criticizing it for others. Lol.
I’m always fascinated by people who overgeneralize, paint with a broad brush and lack nuanced thinking.
If you think all flopping is the same then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s just not that simple.
So walk me through the clips of Jokic leaping on to players backs (ex. With Jaylin Williams or IHart) or falling over when barely touched (ex. the famous play with Kawhi).
He’s just selling the contact when he leaps onto someone? I’m curious about the mechanics there and how it fits your narrative.
Quite funny watching him do random nonsense like this nearly every play from the tip last night. I don’t know if OKC is just in his head or he’s trying to set an agenda early.
I just want to appreciate his game but every time you look at him he’s lurching around, falling down or trying to hook someones arm all the while acting so oppressed.
He is doing that kind of stuff as a desperate response to the defensive gameplan being deployed.
He knows you guys can just hack him all game and will get away with it. So he is responding out of frustration to see if he can get some calls back.
Hence the distinction between reactive and proactive flopping.
But I personally don’t condemn either type of flopping because it’s a LEAGUE issue. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Flopping is a shitty product for everyone but the league allows it. So I don’t hate on Jokic or SGA for simply doing what the league is forcing them to do to be competitive.
It’s like playing a broken exploitive meta in a video game. Was it the way the devs intended for it to be played? No it wasn’t. But if you refuse to do it then you won’t be viable in competitive circumstances.
You just assumed I think Jokic flopping good and SGA bad
Right? It’s amusing watching people try to excuse flops for NBAs favourite son.
Putting lebron in the category of harden, luka, sga is genuinely mind numbing
Like what? How is this upvoted? Do people watch this sport?
Usually he gets frustrated after a while and loses his temper and then does something dramatic, but he almost never flops in the 1st quarter or half of a game. Sometimes he’s rewarded for it, not because he’s a good actor, but because it’s probably a makeup call for something he’s been whining about
His MO right out of the gate is really complaining to the refs more than flopping.
Bron is no where near Harden. His whistle has been horrendous to be, easily, a top 2 all time player.
Yep, took years for Dame to sell contact. He talked about how learning that was the biggest challenge but also best for his early career. In the NBA it seems basketball is the easy part, learning how to play in an entertainment league is hard
There’s a pretty huge difference between selling a foul by exaggerating the contact and flopping when you weren’t even touched.
Last game ihart was posted up, tried to run through a screen, wrapped his arms around the screen setter and then spazzed the fuck out like he was being held, even though he did it 100% to himself.
Jokic be flopping
Jokic definitely flops sometimes, but he also gets clawed half to death. Wemby’s been getting clawed up lately the same way, I think he was bleeding from multiple spots during the last Rockets game. If they’d officiate stuff better maybe nobody would feel they need to flop, but it’s wild seeing bigs running down the court with bloody claw marks all over them.
There was a sequence last night where Bane tried to take Wemby to the rim, elbowed Victor right in the face and blew the layup.
Victor got up, ran the floor and then hit Bane with a vicious dunk on the other end.
He didn’t cry to the refs, he just got up and made the next play.
At some point if he, his coaches, or teammates just lay down and take it all game every game, Victor is going to end up with so many injuries and a disfigured face because it happens CONSTANTLY.
But /r/NBA just watched 5 second clips out of context to determine which players are unethical floppers of course.
But he fell down, which most people in this thread without any kind of discernment will call that a flop.
People notice the claw marks on players like Luka, Jokic, and Sabonis, and to a lesser extent players like Wemby, but never notice them for players like Embiid or SGA. The reality is that it’s happening to every player, but it’s just more visible on TV when you have lighter skin.
Exactly why LeBron started being so dramatic, first 5-10 years in the league he’d get his arms slapped every drive to the basket and unless he badly missed the layup it was hardly called. Probably gets frustrating watching other teams win games at the free throw line or having your players in foul trouble getting calls you don’t
Same for Embiid and Bron, they are so physically imposing that they can shrug off fouls but they want the calls they deserve so they embellish the contact
Ya I don’t like when he flops but watching players like Caruso basically piggy back ride around on him is like okay this is why he flops
It’s discouraging, but this issue goes back to at least the Laimbeer Pistons. The league has always allowed some teams to use the “if we hit them every time, they can’t call everything” strategy. And it’s been greatly rewarded at different times over the years. It’s hard to see what would change now.
Back in the Bad Boys days there would be bench clearing brawls and/or there was at least some semblance of self-policing (not on par with hockey, but there was something). If players wanted to really blow this kind of shit up, they maybe could by drawing their own lines and creating chaos on a nightly basis. If that side of the game has moved on (and it has), then the league/refs need to do a better job of holding bad actors accountable.
I don’t remember seeing this much flopping from Wemby outside of this year, but I’ve seen since day one that Wemby gets abused because it’s the only way to stop him sometimes.
He also sells extra when falling because his limbs are so long they flail every time, whether it’s a flop or not.
That’s why everyone flops now. It’s rewarded. If you don’t flop you don’t get the calls. It’s why the league gets harder and harder to watch. The best players flopping all over the place setting the example but it’s cuz they’re basically forced to
I have no problem with selling the contact (I mean.. It shouldn’t be needed at all, but if a player gets fouled, they have no choice but to sell it.. ) but where I get pissed is the guys who are screaming every play when replays show they absolutely didn’t get fouled.
For instance, when Bane elbowed Victor, he started screaming at the refs like he’d been fouled. I mean, I guess you could claim that Vic’s face fouled Bane’s elbow, but I’m going to say that’s probably not a foul..
League is doing its absolute best to turn Wemby into a flopper.
They’ll break Wemby and Cade before long. You don’t want your calls? Keep on playing through contact. You’ll flop and keep the charade going like the rest or you’ll suffer like a role player!!!
Ant too, he’ll go from yelling on drives to actually flopping soon. I remember how astonishing it was in the playoffs last year, when Ant got Luka in the air on a pump fake, and instead of jumping into him for 3 free throws he just stepped to the side and drained a three.
I don’t want to totally compare it to Giannis because he obviously gets his calls.
But he gets hammered all the time with no calls and Doc has said multiple times this year that when he complains to the refs they tell him they don’t call it because he plays through the contact.
So yeah, there’s absolutely something to the playing through contact thing. They basically tell players to flop.
Giannis would average like 40 if he got proper calls
The league has been doing that to most players for a long time now. Especially bigs, they are getting fouled in every other possesion. If actual legal fouls were called every possesion, even without the floppers and foul baiting, we’d be watching a million FTs a game. League forced players to sell their calls, and them some took it to the next level where they flop on possessions where there is no contact to begin with
We’re already starting the “his flopping is ethical, the league made him do it” narrative as with Jokic huh
Reddit picks and chooses who their glorious kings are
Nobody is safe from the cycle
Magic definitely want a 48 minute MMA fight.
Only one of them do. Banes the only one who wants smoke on that roster
The Wagner bros are absolutely about that life.
I enjoy the magic as a neutral.. But yeah one of the reasons I do is because they absolutely have a bruising old school 1990s mentality That gives me a little bit of nostalgia to the old early pop Spurs era. They were physical and brutal as hell in last year’s playoffs. They absolutely want to muck it up and drag things into the mud as much as possible, it favors their personnel big time
Same reason the Knicks fandom loved those last few Randle teams before we lost Hartenstein to free agency and had to break it up for KAT. We miss our metal bats…
its ok, spurs have Bismarck Biyombo
The first half last night was good basketball and then the magic decided to quit playing basketball and make the game JV kickboxing match in the 3rd quarter
Like the great Kevin Mchale said about the Pistons:
“Eventually we are gonna have to play basketball, and I’m going to kick your ass”
Seemed to work out for the Pistons
Somebody who gets no PT on the spurs should have just ran out and knocked Banes ass to the ground.
should’ve got sochan to do it he’s not gonna play anytime soon 😭
Spurs fans would love him even more.
They’d never be able to trade him if he went out there and blasted Bane. He’d be a hero in San Antonio for life.
Fine, get a dude who likely isnt making a second contract or something to do it.
Nothing could make me love my Polish Prince any more than I already do. The thought that we are trying to find a trade partner for him makes me sick. It’s a curse I guess for Sochan that we ended up getting this good this fast. I absolutely adore him and know he could’ve been our “Rodman” but I guess that’s just the way it goes sometimes….I was gutted when Pop traded Murray, Splitter and most of all George Hill but it all worked out in the end. I just have to trust in PATFO.
Bane really thinks he’s a Batman villain.
“You merely received a technical foul… I was born with one”
“Ah yes, I was wondering what would break first. The refs, or your body”
California.. stay away from here! Desmond Bane has the Upper Hand!
Bane has become what people think of Brooks.
I’m a Magic fan. I love what Bane brings to us on offense. And I love that he brings it while trying on defense. To that point, I love our identity as a tough as nails defensive team - when we have it.
This extra shit? This is dumb, and dangerous, and doesn’t help our team at all. If anything, it can lead to a tighter whistle for all our other players as well.
Most of all, it can lead to injuries and I hate that most of all. We can be physical while straying away from dirty. I hate this dumb extra shit.
His shooting is way off from last year. But considering your second and third options right now, I guess so. I will say it’s always the fan that thinks their team is just physical and gritty and not just dirty and willing to hurt the other team.
I don’t think teams are “dirty”, but some players can be. With Bane, it’s hard to judge because it’s not like he does this type of stuff all the time. But these moments of inexplicable rage are concerning - and inexcusable. Guy needs to get a grip.
I hear you. But, come on. Mo Wagner and Jalen Suggs are still on the Magic. If it’s one guy, it’s an outlier. If it’s two or three guys, it’s the reputation of the team.
What has Suggs done that is dirty?
Wemby definitely got a Vegeta on him
Bane is an idiot, dude needs to be suspended but Silver is a coward
you kidding? Silver’s probably like “Just look at these spikes in engagement when a player does something dirty! This is great! Let’s get Bane an Aspiration contract!”
They should test Bane rn lol he’s prolly just hallucinating from drugs.
I enjoy the way he gives earnest answers.
Really want a Dort vs. Bane MMA fight.
BAH GAWD THAT’S DRAYMOND WITH A STEEL CHAIR
I hope Spurs sign some instigators that can handle this type of antic/question.
They’ve got Sochan, too bad he’s a net negative on the court though.
I think he could be a lot better but he doesn’t look as athletic as he did last season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays a lot better next season because he’s fully recovered from his injuries
He’s not gonna be on the team next season
Honestly think the injuries set him back so much
Time for Big Body to use that big body of his
Keldon is a happy feller though
He sure is! Seems like a great guy. Nice body too.
Orlando is going to be a physical terror in the playoffs. I don’t want to see em.
They might not make it depending on Franzs health.
We’ve been a lot better these past few weeks even without Franz. I think we’re safe if he’s able to come back in the next 2 weeks.
Wemby vs Bane: Longest vs shortest arms in league
You can’t write drama like this
Bane gonna do some Above the Rim shit next Spurs matchup.
This one to me is the least offensive thing Bane has done. I find it far more weird and hostile the way he spiked the ball on guys. Especially OG because the first time he did it, he was already falling out of bounds so there was some plausible deniability like he was trying to make a play. This bump into Wemby is not that big of a deal and the idea of a guard checking into a big man as he runs by or not letting him just take his preferred path to the lane isn’t new. In the old days, a lot of players were coached to do stuff like this to the big guys. You don’t allow them freedom of movement, “body up early” coaches would say. Or “check him before he gets to the paint.” Stuff like that. The only thing that’s new about it in the NBA is the way the guy that gets bumped absolutely launches himself to the ground at every touch. It’s fine with me if the league doesn’t want that kind of contact and body checking to happen anymore. Just saying I think seeing him whip the ball at a guy laying on the ground is far more egregious and unwarranted than this was.
I think out of the 4 flagrant he has had this year, the OG one is probably at the top of the list of non basketball play but lower than either of the mid air drag downs and even the Wemby bump in terms of actual danger.
That’s WembAangyama, the last airbender.
After the Spurs routed my Thunder 3 times in a row and he was overly on the arrogant side in winning those games, I wasn’t a fan AT ALL. In the last two weeks I will say I have nothing but RESPECT for Wemby
He needs to keep his T rex arms to himself
Good lord this guy is soft
Honestly, I’m glad Wemby didn’t get injured in that play. What the fuck is wrong with Desmond Bane??? dirtiest play I’ve seen this season. He probably learned that from Dillon Brooks back when they were on the grizz lol
Ethical basketball
Spoken like a true Euro.
Why is every video a clip of brooks and agent or fears crashing out for me? Lmao
Draymond should antagonize Bane and call him a T-rex.
Just a side rant, “fouling” is one of the most amazing things in basketball. Everyone fouls, but since everyone’s bodies are different a foul on Player 1 may look lesser than Player 2’s foul. Both could hurt like hell though.
In the NFL if I’m an O-lineman and I hold you then I’m getting a penalty for holding. Doesn’t matter if you’re a D-lineman, linebacker, safety….I held you!
I’m a defender and I pull your facemark? Five yard penalty. Doesn’t matter if I twisted it hard, soft, etc. Penalty is a penalty.
NBA? I can straight up whack you and have a crowd going “HE DIDN’T HIT HIM THAT HARD. BOOOOOOO” I see it every game with Shai. I’m sure Spurs fans are getting tired of Wemby getting his ass whooped. Nuggets fans likely don’t even know what the fuck a foul is anymore as Nikola gets blasted and nowadays does the fake flop JUST to show that hey, I’m being fouled over here!
Bane’s foul was a foul but since physicality got brought up with Wemby saying this it’s going to now give even lighter fouls to him. BUT, should he have been getting them anyways? Just some Monday thoughts at play
I’ve got no connection to this guy. Never cared about the Spurs nor French basketball. But holy cow I’m becoming a big fan of his!
has bane reached the flagrant threshold for a suspension?
When he’s flopping his way to 12-15 free throws a night I want to hear no complaining
It’s a basketball game sometimes you gotta deal with elbows
Was it really a big deal? Don’t run down the lane with a goofy smile on your face.
Today’s league is a cupcake league.
Teams know they can’t outplay Wemby straight up so they’re trying to frustrate him out of his rhythm. Smart strategy even if it’s ugly basketball.
Orlando is a dirty team, coach Mosley organize that dirty plays, they celebrate Bane after all those shitty plays
“Physicality? No different than any other species. You see. A T-rex with the short arms, ok, he had his time. He had his time he is extinct ok, but my time is maintenant.”- Wemby
he sounds like how i sound when i be talking about the 80s and 90s when they claim “it was so physical” they was really tackling players out of mid air trying to actually hurt players
some of the should’ve played hockey or football if it was about the pain they could dish out
Cook that bum ass playin team goat
great answer.
What a baller quote.
I know they cant see every foul but it blows my mind how refs use the reaction to decide a foul, which is subjective, rather than calling it based on the contact. Flopping will not get any better til that changes.
Fuck Cole Anthony for ruining Ivey
