[Highlight] Dylan Harper with the pretty footwork for the midrange bucket
I really wish Harper was drafted by a bad team and allowed to be on ball regularly like this. Pairing him with Wemby is gonna be nasty for his long term development though
If he fell to the sixers, Utah, or DC he would probably be averaging like 15-16ppg rn
Sixers have the same issue but the other 2 yes
The Sixers currently have a rookie guard averaging 15 ppg.
I think they’re referring to VJ was barely getting any touch lately due to Embiid, PG and Maxey balling
Well PG is out for the next 25 games so I think his productivity should still be pretty good.
Ngl I think he would be doing just as good as VJ if he was in Philly
I love Demin but Brooklyn would have been such an awesome fit for Harper. Local kid too
Manu 2.0
nasty as in good?
Yes
I don’t think it’ll be that bad for him long term. I think playing high quality basketball is also great for his development. He also has a good attitude and mentioned wanting to become like Thunder Harden. Fox isn’t going to be on the team forever
Like you said this is best for his development. He’s given enough touches and opportunities to play significant (and playoff) minutes when he’s doing good and doesn’t develop any bad habits in the process. He’s had some really great games and some really rough ones.
The only reason this guy isn’t up there with the top 5 rookies is because we are too deep and he can’t get a significant enough role yet.
I love Castle but I think Dylan is gonna end up being our 2nd best player in the long run.
Well said. Flagg, Kon, Queen and Coward are all on teams with no real playoff aspirations and have basically been thrown into the deep end and are performing well. Sixers have played VJ as much as they have out of necessity and he’s killing it.
Spurs are the only real contender of the bunch with a good amount of depth at guard positions already. We’ll never know, but I would bet that Harper would be up there with Flagg and kon for RoTY if he was on rebuilding team and getting 30+ minutes a game
He absolutely would imo, there’s a good reason he went 2nd and prolly would have went 1st in 2024
The number 2 always follows Dylan throughout his entire life.
His foot work isn’t just clean, it isn’t just polished…he is genuinely doing shit with some of his drives that I’ve never seen before. This kid is absolutely legit
For me, it’s how effortlessly he does it, too. It looks like he’s doing something he’s been doing since he was 5 (which could be true with his parents), and not like he’s trying to do something crazy because he’s playing against NBA players.
I’ve seen Shai and Harden pull it off, which kinda says everything
He’s graceful, I think that’s the word.
Some guys, you can just tell that they’re good in just a few plays. Hes one of them. His craft, his handle, layup package, you just don’t see that often and never in someone so young.
It’s a 3pt league so he’s got to add that, but he can ball
Gonna be one of the best rookie classes of all time
Kobe Ahh Bryant silky smooth move 🔥
Shai and Brunson esque 👀
Reminds me of the Penny Hardaway one but for lefty. Sick move
Nah that’s some And1 mixtape shit, my boy is taking me back 😮💨
Is this not a travel because he switches the pivot foot as he gathers? Not that it’s half as egregious as the modern stepback even if it is…
He twists, then terminates his dribble, then gathers the ball with both hands, then jumps into a twisting shot. It looks confusing because he’s combining moves, but it’s ultimately just a plant-and-pull-up
He gathers the ball in the air as he’s lifting his feet. You can quibble if he’s a frame early in the video but as far as referees actually calling games this isn’t even a travel by 80s rules.
They rarely call travel anymore.
I had to rewatch this three times because that hip swivel just looked so odd thinking of it from a set pivot foot. I legit want to know how this isn’t a travel though given how many people are calling it ‘pretty footwork’
Maybe bc he doesn’t pick up his dribble? He one hand carries a bit but never touches it with both hands until he goes into his shooting motion
His creativity with the ball is already sensational
so clean and smooth i havent seen since the prime penny days. the spin and hop is dangerous
Watching Harper go at Gobert this year as a Wolves fan has been really scary. Wemby and him are going to be a really difficult problem to solve.
I think he’s going to surpass Castle as Wemby’s #2
