[Highlight] Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is playing unconscious, drawing contact on Tim Hardaway Jr. and hitting the falling push shot for the and-one
Crazy shot, no clue what part of that was a foul though
It’s also technically traveling or at least you can’t count that as part of continuation. He picked up the dribble, took two steps spinning into THJ, then another two falling backwards to the ground, THEN puts up the shot. Unreal amount of freedom he gets anywhere near the basket from the refs.
Have no idea why you’ve been upvoted lol. That is in no way a travel. Two steps after the gather.
Not at all a travel.
You are braindead if u think that’s even close to a travel
Its basic spin move. Not a travel.
Uh oh someone spoke truth
i agree completely
Hardaway bumps him pretty hard with his left arms you can see it on replay and can tell Hardaway knows it too. I think it was a frustration foul cuz he was getting cooked this possession lol
I don’t know maybe from another angle it looks better but I don’t really like that being called a foul
ur forgetting the part where it’s shai so this is a foul
It’s easy you can just watch the video you’re commenting on.
The mvp ran into him, and he wasn’t picture-perfect set to draw a charge. Therefore, defensive foul
Contact doesn’t always mean foul. So bumping into players doesn’t mean a charge or blocking foul has to happen. Hardaway Jr did everything legal and his forearm into SGA is also legal as SGA put his back into him on the spin and you are allowed to have your forearm press their back. It is just odd to be from a general fan of basketball to watch how offensive players are allowed to just go full force into someone and somehow the whistle tends to ALWAYS go to the offense. I mean for the sake of the argument, let’s say the foul was a reference to Hardway’s forearm extending slightly. If they are calling that shit, which is pretty minor, but not the fact that SGA just runs full force into people, the inconsistency is just making it impossible to enjoy this product. It doesn’t reflect basketball anywhere outside of the NBA. I can only imagine the WWE level of shit we will get 5-10 years from now.
Just watch the highlights as Adam Silver intended. The NBA product is a complete joke now.
It’s legal to have ur elbow out and shove a player? Thj fully extends and you can legit see Shai getting pushed backwards off of it and thjs whole arm going forward because he blatantly pushes Shai
If you’re playing defense, is the player with the ball allowed to just spin into you? Like, I don’t get what they expect THJ to do there, besides move out of the way and make space for the scorer.
Usually I’d agree, but it seems to me that tim definitely leans into sga to give more contact
So he slightly leans in? Is that a foul now? Just garbage stuff man how is this called a foul. Great shot by Shai but just utterly frustrating to watch.
Well you can’t just elbow a guy and push him while he’s shooting lol. Even Hardaway acknowledges he fouls him
Elbow?
He gives Shai a little bit of extra contact after the initial contact
Looks to me like he’s moving the left arm out of the way of Shai’s head, not what the announcers say.
EDIT: Eh, I watched it again in slow motion. maybe…
Yeah the left arm isn’t doing anything, it’s more with the body
It’s a pretty significant push he gives Shai, momentum wise if he doesn’t do it Shai goes right around his shoulder to the basket
Do you not see the elbow?
Fr hit him with the little forearm shiver
THJ fouls him for sure there. I wonder what the actual book/case book says on offensive fouls because from certain perspectives I could see spinning hard into somebody could be a charge in other situations (not this one). Jokic uses elbows often in his post moves so I’m not just trying to stick to an agenda here. All high level players push the limits of rulebooks
You mean the contact after the offensive player just ran into the defender? The offensive foul was committed first.
Generational bias
There’s been horrendous bullshit for both sides so far. It feels like very consistent horrendous bullshit though.
Agreed there’s been zero consistency which is the worst
For sure, hope yall get healthy
Gordon’s hammy worries me
He was my favorite non Thunder player for a long time. I really hope he can get back, but it’s an injury that can’t be rushed and even should add a little extra time to.
The difference a flair can make in upvotes is crazy
I’m not blaming the individual ref. Like, I get that this is called a blocking foul in today’s NBA. It just doesn’t make sense, game-wise.
I get that, it just seems like there’s consistency which apparently is what’s missing rather than the calls. At least that’s what everyone says.
Okc fan complaining about the refs is gold
Not complaining, more of an observation because I was watching the game and not singled out whistles.
“There’s been horrendous bullshit for both sides so far”
Yeah. That’s not a complaint 😂
It’s just the typical trying to make sga a watchable player post. He’s not and it’s weird the nba went all in on him
wasn’t he like third or fourth in fan voting for all star
He was in fact fourth in the west, ninth overall.
Is that how we measure anything? Yeah I didn’t think so
On watchability? Maybe
Can’t you do like 3x voting days? All star means nothing, including Murray . And yes I realize sga will be a first team all nba so don’t bother bringing that up
You’re probably right.. it was a concerted effort by the 4 people who enjoy watching SGA to all vote on 3x days, instead of the more plausible explanation that Reddit and social media in general is not an actual representation of real life.
He runs right into the defender what a genius move
I mean he has him beat before THJ pushes him
Let’s hope these two teams play each other in the playoffs at full strength on both sides.
How tf is that a foul? Lmao.
Besides the fact he reached in beforehand I guess it’s the bump? The refs don’t have instant replay and just see the exaggerated contact and just go with it.
Edit: Our star player does the same thing every player does and gets the same calls. As the defending champions we’re just under a microscope.
oh come on he does not get the same calls
[deleted]
You’re allowed to use your forearm to protect yourself when a player literally slams their body right into you.
Oh, shit. A little forearm.
Little forearm lmao SGA does more than this on every midrange and thunder fans will type paragraphs explaining how he doesn’t fully extend. But this? Little forearm foul no problem
Don’t bring that scrutiny to reddit
Tf you talking about r/nba hates SGA and the thunder they face constant scrutiny
Ya the thunder do get a lot of criticism from this subreddit. However, I think that they deserve even more criticism than they already get because this shit is fucking terrible to watch and its completely unfair.
Bro you’re a warriors fan sybau 😂
what is sybau?
[removed]
Lol
SGA is a master at foul baiting, but the nba enables him and it’s hard to blame him. What bothers me is everyone in his orbit on the Thunder do the same shit and get rewarded.
Drawing contact lol? How about initiating 100% of it 🤣
I’ve grown to appreciate the fact I’ll never know what is and isn’t a foul in this league. The block/charge call has confused me more than any rule across any sport I watch
He would go from an MVP to an average starter if they enforced the off-arm shove.
Yall just say anything on here
They did this game lmao, he didn’t even use it like that
amazing touch on that shit
Why are we pretending this is a foul lol. He spun into the defender and flopped. Compared to Dort hacking Jokic every possession this is not even close to a foul.
Hive mind
That’s the worst part of the NBA. We have to compare the fouls because refs don’t actual call it straight up. They pick and choose when it’s a foul
Are you dumb? THJ hit him with a forearm shiver
If that forearm shiver is enough for a foul call, then SGA’s stiff arm would get him fouled out of the game before halftime.
Everybody’s better than SGA until it’s time to be better than SGA
Exactly.
Never been outplayed by the opposing best player in any playoff series since he became a perennial 1st team all nba player.
If you get calls like this, maybe they are actually better than SGA at stuff that’s not foul baiting?
I don’t think this is a foul, but I know most don’t get this call. And I know this wasn’t the only whistle he got bc he’s “talented” at drawing fouls.
This whole conversation is moot if we just acknowledge the reach at the beginning of the drive. Side out. Thunder ball. Shai probably hits a mid range shot.
I guess perimeter players can just do whatever now.
Great shot but why is that a foul? He went in to Tim’s chest and fell down
Watch the replay, thj clearly shoves him off by extending his arm
Because he’s SGA, duh. Fuck this clown.
He makes crazy and 1 shots like this all the time. MVP and its not close this season
Nah man, he doesn’t even try to make the shot. He only plays for the foul.
Plays for contact and the shot, clearly
I mean, dude’s can feel free to give him more space, so this doesn’t happen.
I just don’t think that’ll work out for them though.
Dude that’s exactly the point of why his whistle is so horse shit. The options are 1. Defend normally and get called for bogus fouls when Shai initiates contact and flops, or 2. Give him extra space, so he is free to operate and get easier looks.
You’re literally proving why people hate on him. His foul baiting creates a no win situation for the defender.
ya fuck that defender for letting shai throw a spinning elbow into his chest and then falling over, get fucking dominated by the mvp
SGA is dominating the MVP battle for sure but the PG battle between him and Jamal is even more one-sided
Murray has been playing like a All NBA 3rd team caliber player this season, but he does struggle usually vs physical and lengthy defenses.
Wait until you find out who’s most Canadian too…
It’s SGA, buddy.
Most Canadian 😂
Compare the jokic to hartienstein battle and the we can talk about one sided…
Fantastic play. Smash head first into a player with your mouth open - this is how the game was meant to be
Run into defender who is playing normal defense
WOW AMAZING
spin move into him then fall over, mvp performance
“Unconscious”…ly spinning into the defender looking for a foul
I don’t get it. Guy spins right into you and you get the foul?
I’m legit wondering how would you defend this? Move out of the way while dipsy doodles?
I mean Hardaway gets beat subtly before the move, the spin would have gotten Shai past his shoulder, if he was in a better position before the spin he could’ve recovered but he was beat already
But that doesnt give shai the right to spin directly into the defender and then fall over to get the foul call. If he was beat then shai shoulda kept going past him into a shot.
Nah hes playing crazy rn, cant believe this
I hate watching him play
Glad you hated your night
who said that guy watched the game?
Nobody forced you to watch the game or click on this particular video
Yea if you watch the game and don’t see how crazy his handle and control was then you are really missing out
Both things are true. Shai is an all time great talent but he also abuses the terrible foul calls to enhance his performance.
His flop game is truly unmatched.
Sga scores 50 points with 20 assists and breaks wilts record = 10 upvotes. Refs miss one call that spurs/wolves/nuggets fans cry about over and over as an excuse for their team losing by 20 = 10k up votes. This is Reddit.
and they’ll repost it next season until the pixels literally fall apart 🤣 Some of the Shai pics they repost are from 4 seasons ago 😭
While ignoring wembys techs for flopping and all the joker flopping. Nobody even thinks about Minn but their fans will chime in anyway somewhere on here.
those deserve criticism as well, but theres not as strong of a pattern so it gets more overlooked
It’s actually comical. I’m rooting on okc to win again this year since my team is mid.
It begins. Fans of teams that know they aren’t really competing will generally start finding their favorite front-runners. Guess we’ll see if OKC can pull more weight with the potential first b2b in a decade narrative.
I love nba. Been sorta following okc since the bubble. They may not win this year but I still think they will be contenders for years. Love watching jokic from when folks was calling him boring. And this year been looking at the suns a lot more… trying to figure out why they are winning 😆 my fox love has moved to San Antonio. So I guess I like most of the front runners in the west.
Do you mean the mvp from the championship team or joker?
Blame sga for that. He brought this on himself
Nah I’m gonna roll with him bc he’s better at basketball than whoever you root for as are the Thunder.
You wanted to know why he gets hate. That’s on him. Flopping. Flailing. Falling down. Not real basketball.
No that’s just redditors crying bc he’s better than whoever you root for. You pick one play out of ten games and cry about its bc your team is full of losers. Thunder fans could do that to whoever you root for but we are busy winning. Have a good one!
both things are true, the thunder are amazing at basketball but also the refs are helping them win and they abuse it
its not just people from those fanbases, its everyone outside of oklahoma including other countries
He initiated contact, how is this a foul ?
Do you watch basketball? If you do, have you watched any ball handler ever?
Yea I remember when the refs had balls to call offensive fouls
They literally called an offensive foul on SGA in this game.
They kinda have to eventually if this is how he always plays
you and every other hating ass casual in this sub go ahead and keep thinking that. Hive mind.
Don’t call me a hive mind when you can’t hold your own players accountable, keep enjoying these unethical flops lmao
What the fuck are you even taking about?
Also, “unethical flops?” Thanks for proving my point, hive mind. Have an original thought one time.
I’m talking about how you defend Sga flopping like every other okc “hive mind” but sorry I didn’t spell it out clearly for the Oklahoma education you received
Jesus what a shot
And the commentator acts like he’s just tossing it up “to get into a shooting motion… and it went in?!” Yeah guy, you just described 2⁄3 of a basic successful shot process, you just left out intent.
after he bumped into the defender he had a half second to gather and shoot with good form before falling over
Foul was on the floor. The foul happened then he chucked some BS up. I’ve seen Steph do this over and over and over again always with the bucket coming back. This is way more egregious yet it counts. There’s no method to the NBAs madness.
add on to the fact that shai intentionally initiated the contace with his spin move
How does the shot count when he shoots well after the supposed foul? This makes basketball seem dumb…
Man the SGA bias is crazy. Y’all missing out on enjoying a generational player. Will never understand the amount of hate he gets. Plays like Kobe without all the off the court issues… but he makes funny faces sooo that means he has to be the most hated player in the nba I guess
Its a brand of basketball that is genuinely not fun to watch. As a blazer fan I can recognize that Avdia loves to rip his hands through defenders and that gets him a lot of and1s but the shit is just not fun to watch. Do you really feel like SGAs push off and whistles are fun to watch?
Do you have any objective data behind this narrative? Jesus Christ. Form an opinion that’s actually rooted in fact.
It is fun to watch. He’s a borderline generational talent already. Get used to seeing it. Would you rather have the Harden-ball rear its head again?
Yeah his step back 3s, insane footwork, and one of the best midrange shooters ever is an awful watch. Y’all let the narratives ruin your experience. Every star in the nba does what Shai does but sure it’s only bad when he does it. Hell Jokic flops way more than Shai does but it is never brought up. Downvote away but I’m going to appreciate what is a special and generational player. Incredibly lucky to get to watch a player like this play for my favorite team.
Bruh, I literally gave you an example of someone on MY TEAM doing it and not liking it. It’s not fun when Jokic does it, it’s not fun when Avdia does it, it’s not fun when SGA does it. SGA is a fantastic player but he would be great without the push off moves and flops as well. Thats what makes it so frustrating.
Yes and I’m saying every star in the nba has always done that and always will do that. We just live in the social media age where a flop gets 10,000 upvotes while a killer move will get like 100. Kobe did it, MJ did it, everyone did it. The game hasn’t changed the only difference is social media and confirmation bias. I swear people watch the games with the intent of seeing who can be the fastest to post a negative clip. I’ve been a Thunder fan since day 1 and I can confidently tell you SGA is just as fun as KD or Russ ever was (in different way albeit) but a much better basketball player.
I get that. Honestly, I blame Shaqtin-a-fool for that behavior.
if you can’t appreciate what he’s doing, you may not actually like basketball don’t know what to tell you
This is a perfect example of how people twist the narrative on the internet. You know perfectly well that the SGA hate is not from making funny faces, its from the style of play that he does where he initiates contact and then the refs unfortunately give him the foul calls. Both things are true. He is amazing but also it sucks to see this style of play. I mostly blame the refs, but he is fully aware of the problem and he chooses to continue to take advantage of it in order to win more games. That’s why people don’t like him that much.
I wish I could unsee sga. The idea of him going down in history with the greats is laughable and insulting
You know you don’t have to watch him.
Well you would have really hated Kobe then lmao. You must be young.
kobe was way tougher and more impressive than sga, even though he was not perfect
I don’t like it.
Ok wait this is a no call lmao. Doesn’t take away from how amazing this shot is!
should be an offensive foul
I don’t mind this being called.
But on the other end Dort basically scratches Jokic and clotheslines him and barely gets called.
Behold fans this guy reaching levels we haven’t seen since curry
not if they had the same foul calls
This game was tough to watch with OKC doing their usual antics
The Thunder official social media reposting this as a Hi-light is honestly crazy.
Shout out to /u/TheDraciel for getting some sweet SGA highlights up tonight. It’s very much appreciated.
SGA is one of the GOATs for sure this generation. I will simply post the best plays regardless of teams as Denver fans flood my DMs talking shit to me. That was him tonight, next matchup, if Jokic toasts him, it will be him.
its not just denver fans
Nice shot but that just shouldn’t be a foul. No reason why he should fall and slide ten feet.
someone should be wearing white. this looks like a euro league game.
Make him earn his foul calls.
I will never respect this style of basketball, or the players who play it.
God I fucking hate OKC and fucking SGA
Of all the times SGA draws fouls. As a nuggets fan tim did get baited enough. Not something I would contest to other fouls he draws constantly.
Bro he just runs at people, smacks them and gets the foul. I don’t even fucking know anymore
Oh he’s baiting another foul! So sick. Such a good play. He’s awesome. Great for the game.
MVP
At this point I think defenders are confused about how to defend SGA. Do you sag off to avoid the foul or contest him the whole way and risk the foul. Either way he gets the foul call. Idek what you do at this point.
Magnets are on bc he’s making shit not even he should be able to make
Everyone is coping hard in here. Enjoy greatness you whiners.
This is an experience
sga mvp
Best player in the world
Jokic has been the best player in the world for at least 5 years and its not close.
He’s always the best player in the world until it’s actually time to play the best player in the world
It’s not really an opinion thing mate. It kinda just is how it is.
Not anymore
Future GOAT
no way the refs can keep this up his whole career
He’s literally dismantling their defense entirely despite getting blitzed and pulling defenders from everywhere. The mvp debate seems to once again closed for the time being lol
we’re witnessing one of the greatest to ever do it right now. we’re going to look back after his career and realize how special he is
are you talking about the ref here?
This game is one of the best examples I’ve seen of late of the value of scoring.
Shai is breaking the denver defense so much that he has incredibly simple reads.
glad everyone getting to watching this ass beating
We’re witnessing an incredible MVP showdown between Shai and Watson
