Dallas started leaking rumors Brunson was never going to come back. It was always about playing with his dad in New York.
That happened after they fumbled. He pushed for a 3⁄55 extension before the season, and then again mid season after saying he wouldn’t negotiate after the season started.
They didn’t give it to him because they wanted to be able to include him in a package for a star.
He was even willing to hear them out after we offered 4⁄128 in free agency. They offered him 5⁄120.
I think the Knicks were big on Brunson but back then Rick was just a Thibs top assistant, they getting Brunson maybe knew that he was better than advertised but Dallas had seen him 24⁄7 for years.
Dallas wanted to make space to get stars for Luka and shedding money from a player that had a bad playoffs seemed like and easy way to make space.
You would think after the Steve Nash stuff, Cubes would have learned his lesson. But nope.
