Nick Friedell, “The Warriors have made it clear to Jimmy Butler that they are going to stick by him as he begins a year-long rehab”
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7013017/2026/02/01/giannis-antetokounmpo-mike-dunleavy-warriors-bucks-trade/
Translation for ‘the bucks did not want you’
Kuminga and a broken down Jimmy and a couple picks isnt pulling a top 5 player? Shocked! Nico must not be the GM.
What’s really shocking is all the pundits and analysts covering this trade like it’s realistic? No man not even Nico would make a trade for a perpetually disgruntled and injured shitty regular season player who is currently injured and a trash prospect the team has been trying to trade before he put the hat on during the Draft. Only Spurs and Thunder have the pieces to make Giannis trade work until the Bucks get super desperate at the deadline and Kuminga and Butler proposed trade starts looking good (if it’s still available)
ESPN basically was hyping this trade up so much that you would think the Bucks were getting the Herschel Walker deal of the NBA. I mean the Wolves gave up twice as much as what the Warriors were rumored to be giving up for Gobert.
Pretty sure Mikal Bridges brought in a much bigger haul than what was suggested by ESPN. I guess after the Luka trade anything is possible but 10 years ago someone at ESPN is getting fired for posting such a brain dead rumor
What a ridiculously stupid trade that was, though. Giving up that much for Gobert, who gets played off the court in playoff situations. So fucking bad.
Well back to back conference finals and defeated the Warriors last year. If you look at their defense rating with him on and off the court it’s huge. Top 5 on and like 30 off.
It was Windhorst doing that. Perk (of all people) was the one who said that deal was dog and he wouldn’t even take the call for that deal.
The picks involved would likely be really good in a post-Steph world with an aging Giannis as the only Warrior of note, but if I read it correctly, the earliest great pick is still 3+ years out. I just don’t get how pushing your plans out half a decade is appealing at all.
It was the media bro if people though about if for ten seconds the man thing would be why would Giannas go to a team in a tougher conference who is in the play in. On top of that there best player will be what 39 next year and is closer to retiring than actually playing another 5 years so why would this MVP talent go to a team who’s organization has shown the front office the last 4 years have been terrible.
Where was a Bucks guy, I believe he reports on the team that seemed to outline it pretty clearly.
The reason the deal was being pushed so hard wasnt because it seemed realistic and beneficial for the Bucks. But people just wanted to see Giannis with Steph.
Media really trying to gaslight the Bucks into taking conplete dogshit offers meanwhile 3rd options like Bane and Bridges got significantly more in trades.
Yeah this never really made sense unless you somewhat overvalue the picks
Warriors fans really think Bucks GM is as stupid as Nico. Jimmy + late 1st rounders or Podz/Kuminga + Late first rounders for a top 5 player in the league lol
Yeah, “here’s some bad salary for your books next year, but maybe you will be able to start rebuilding in 4 years, if we are bad.”
It’s honestly why I don’t think he’s traded at the deadline because none of the offers outside of maybe Portland as it stands are all that good
Is trading him in the off season going to result in much better deals? Some teams will be able to trade one more draft pick 7 years from now. Everyone gets a little bit older and any contender is losing out for this year. MIL stays in a purgatory until then. Plus teams aren’t necessarily gonna sit around and wait for MIL, making other trades without them and contenders can have less assets to trade.
i don’t think so. people keep saying more offers will be available this summer but which team is willing to give up young players and a ton ofpicks? there’s no team that would still fit this criteria and would still be competitive after
Honestly the teams with plenty of young players and picks to give up aren’t the teams that are going to make a move of this magnitude. OKC clearly doesn’t need Giannis while teams like Utah or Portland are rebuilding and aren’t 1 Giannis trade away from contention.
exactly. i don’t think bucks fans are in the wrong to want a haul back for giannis but its not gonna happen. it’s either young players some picks (heat) or old players and a lot of picks (warriors)
And Giannis will have a lot more leverage. Most teams that could be used to increase his price will just give up when he says he won’t play for them.
I think the packages will be a bit better than now, but I don’t think it will be that much better.
the problem with bucks fans is they think giannis will and should fetch a high price tag. the price tag is only as high as the market can bear. he’s also not young anymore and in his final years of his prime.
Whats Portland’s offer?
It’s mainly in theory, Portland has the rights to Milwaukee’s picks in 2028, 29, and 30. The theory is they either somehow get him or act as a facilitator team for someone else
So now 4 post curry picks are late first rounders? Didn’t this sub spend all season saying warriors need to part with their premium post curry picks they’ve been hoarding?
Also, no team has a good offer. The best player offer is herro which doesn’t solve the issue of them needing a number 1 guy who they won’t get in free agency
“4 post Curry picks” sounds bad but leaves out the part where you would GIANNIS and a shit ton of cap space to add another star (or two) around him. It’s so disingenuous of Warriors fans to keep talking about their “post Curry” picks while conveniently ignoring they would have Giannis and be one of the premier free agent destinations in all of the NBA. You guys play in California for fuck sake and are one of the best run teams in the league the last decade now, you’re not a team in an undesirable location or run by poor management.
Every team would have giannis which makes them mid at worst and the picks damn near moot. But wasn’t my point. My point was everyone considered these picks to be lottery picks just two weeks ago. Whoever the dubs use the picks for…they’ll still have Steph and a ton of cap after next season so this logic could’ve been used at any point but now they’re late firsts.
“4 post curry picks” it would literally just be one in 2032 lmfao who are you trying to scam man
Steph is not retiring any time soon. You know it. I know it. Just stop😂😂
Sorry…40+ year old curry and post curry lol. And either way still not my point. It’s the whiplash from this sub crashing out on the dubs front office for hoarding those picks for years. Finally reported they’ll use them and now they’re late first rounders and trash.
Nothing serious just funny to see. It’s not a good package for giannis but competition for packages also isn’t great so who knows
They’re trash when it comes to trading for a top 5 player in the league. They’re more reasonable for adding players of lesser value that could have still helped you. Not a hard concept to grasp
Harder concept to grasp apparently is that the market dictates this. The other teams have even worse to offer for a top 5 player.
But that still wasn’t my point. The whiplash on this sub is just straight comedy after years of clowning for not giving them up is hilarious. They were premium lottery picks two weeks ago. Now they’re late first rounders.
Oh and any team that gives up picks to get giannis will have giannis making those FRP’s also not good by that logic…so once again it’s about what other teams have to offer as well.
Other teams will have easily more to offer in the summer
For sure. If it gets to that point. We are currently talking about this trade deadline.
Stars dictate the outcomes in the NBA a lot too. If giannis wants a chance this season then it may not get to the summer.
The Bucks are not going to be forced to take a shit offer when they know better ones are waiting for them. Giannis doesn’t have that control over them, nor has he shown any willingness to paint himself as the bad guy and make demands
Countless Dubs fans on here keeping pushing this dumb shit so dishonestly or they flat out can’t do basic math.
When do you think Steph is retiring? He’s not retiring this year so there goes 1 pick. Highly doubt he announces next season is his last, which means he’ll play the 27-28 season so 2028 isn’t a post Curry pick either. And if Curry decides to play out 4 more seasons after this, then 2030 isn’t post Curry either AND at worst it would presumably be with Giannis still there.
So no, it’s not 4 post Curry picks. It’s at absolute best 2, an at worst 1.
Hilarious that you think it’s just dubs fans lmao. This sub spent how much time clowning the FO for hoarding those picks? Knowing Steph would likely play a few more years.
This logic you’re applying works regardless of the who player is they’re trying to get which makes my point even more.
So even if it’s Trey. Or MPJ. It’s one first, maybe two. With Steph and a shit ton of cap coming off the books after next season. Didn’t see these arguments then. Just comical how critical thinking is now being used.
lol what on earth makes you think the picks are gonna be late first rounders 💀
Yeah but you dont get it. Steph is retiring in 2 years max!(he’s not). Those picks are valuable!
I don’t think it’s unreasonable, depending on the year of the draft picks and how they’re protected
GSW could be rough after Steph retires
Late firsts? Those post-Steph picks are considered super valuable because they’re likely to all be in the lottery.
Jon Horst when it comes to drafting, yes.
If they take Draymond + warriors depth pieces the warriors 2026 pick is going to be top 5 in Adam silvers nba lottery.
Why would they do that though? I can’t imagine the Bucks have any interest in Draymond.
to spell it out, I am implying that the NBA nudges rosters towards what will generate the most views/discussion/controversy. The most box office thing is Giannis + Steph (see NBA moving the Warriors game vs spurs to national prime time after deadline) which is why you see all the majore media outlets pushing it. Similar to the cooper flagg situation, They would tell the bucks they will get their “franchise restart” player in the draft.
Adam Silver is the most capitalist comish yet, which is why the clippers blatantly aspired to cap circumvention and nothing will happen. Giannis to warriors will eat all the convro.
Warriors didn’t want to diminish Jimmy’s “joy” before he gets flipped. If it’s between Green or Butler to make a Giannis trade work, I can’t see their FO make the same mistake again similar to Klay.
They are so trying to make Currys last years happy for him
Sure but if they do manage to get Giannis for JK, Dray, Podz and picks then we need to fill out the roster. Moving Jimmy to a team that wants to unload a couple of contracts for cap space would be a solid plan. We have no idea what Jimmy is going to look like when he gets back. Seems rash to make that commitment to him.
very nice of them. let’s ignore the 29 phone calls they made beforehand.
I imagine that’s exactly how it went down
widely reported that you are absolutely available in any trade nobody wants you “we are just so committed to you”
widely reported that you are absolutely available in any trade
nobody wants you
“we are just so committed to you”
That contract, injury history, personality and age made that contract untradeable.
So no one wants old broken Jimmy?
He goes by Jim now
Jimothy
Jim Duncan
James
Barista Jim is rehabbing and going to come back stronger and better than ever
Slippin Jimmy
HE DEFECATED THROUGH A SUN ROOF!
Slipped Jimmy
No one wants him there to charge them $20 for a cup of coffee
Basically nobody wants him lol
Can’t blame them 36 y/o who just tore his ACL and is making 55 mil is pretty gross
Definitely sucks to see him go out that way but I guess pat riley and jimmy were both right to some extent, riley dodged a somewhat obvious bullet and Jimmy got paid (it was always really only about the money). Gs left holding the bag.
Who also gives minimum effort during regular season and always bring drama where he arrives.
The upside in trading for Jimmy is a salary dump.
He’ll always have Buddy
“We’re going to stick by you now that we’ve exhausted our options.”
“Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a liar” - Jimmy in 2 months
This is “ Washington Wizards are Trae Youngs #1 trade destination ” 2.0
So no team wants Bulter.
“I just want you to know that even though no one wants you, we do.”
Looks like the Bucks told the Warriors their deal was trash.
Sounds like Giannis trade didn’t go through
No, just that Bucks don’t want Jimmy - which means Draymond would have to be included instead
Now the Bucks might not want Draymond either but at least Draymond can be routed to a 3rd team and any assets you can get for Draymond can be added to the deal
Like they have a choice LOL
Nick Friedell is like the biggest mouth piece for team PR after Chris Haynes lol
What they say is always so biased because they are friends with specific teams and players
So they’re punting next season
This is me renewing my vows because I went 0/12 at the bar the weekend before
Sad ending for steph, almost feel bad for him
Please dont let Giannis go to the west
A Year long rehab for a 36 year old? Was this the last we have seen of Jimmy?
Why
Draymond in shambles
So they’re not getting porter either. You had a good run Steph.
They’re so dumb not flipping him for AD. I understand there’s a lot of risk in it, but yall have to try something for the massive upside potential
I doubt it would happen this time given the injury but it’s funny that Warriors FO has pretty much said, “this guys here to stay” and each time immediately traded that player within the season. Lol
I’ll take “The things we say to our spouse when the side piece didn’t work out” for $500 Alex
Famous last words before he gets shipped out lol
Dunleavy is not Bob Meyers. Bro is in over his head
Myers sucked too
Im sure Jimmy will be very happy about this and keep his reservations to himself
I’ll take note of that
Until they trade him
They shouldn’t
The warriors have made it clear [they’re dumb as fuck]
And you would know what a “dumb as fuck” front office looks like.
so would you if you were old enough to remember the pre-dynasty warriors, but I doubt you are
“Nobody wants me?”
Transforms into Emo Jimmy
Translation: Giannis said no to us, so we’re stuck with you.
Bye Draymond lol
Get ready to speak Buckanese Jimmy!
Wild how this dog shit organization has managed to put absolutely nothing around Steph
Jimmy is not nothing, I hate draymond more than basically any player but he does deserve loyalty from the org. Steph might be the most importance piece but green and klay were staples.
Jimmy is old and washed and so is draymond
He was pretty good, curry is older. Kawhi and harden are old too. If jimmy hadn’t gotten hurt, and they had one more good player the gsw would’ve made noise.
And they are trying to get giannis
If Giannis actually goes to the warriors, and they somehow keep Jimmy, what does that do to all 3 of their legacies if they win a ring?
Nothing
Not an argument lil guy
It doesn’t change their legacies because a 37 year old Curry, an old Butler coming off a season-ending injury and Giannis wouldn’t get through the West.
Happy?
I mean if they win, I edited it that’s my b
Steph goes t9 right below kobe, giannis probably gets over or equal to kd and idk ab Jimmy he probably isn’t doing too much for the chip coming off acl.
Kobe is not top 10 all time, he’s like 11. Steph is already above him regardless of anything
it’s not being talked about enough but this is because Dunleavy was teammates with Jimmy back in Chicago, no surprise they are buddies. that is a big reason he vouched for jimmy to Kerr and others and made the trade last year and probably also why he gave him that huge extension so i doubt he is gonna backstab him by trading him while he is injured.
sorry draymond
It’s because Bucks said no lol.
Did yall even read the article?
The night after Butler got injured last month, Dunleavy answered questions from the media and noted that he didn’t “envision” moving Butler’s contract as part of any potential deal.
Bro come on lol. If bucks were willing to take the contract, Jimmy is outta there on the first flight 😂.
Not if Dunleavy thinks Steph+Giannis+Jimmy is a better big 3 than Steph+Giannis+Draymond
For the record this is not about what we think is right or wrong, it’s about what Dunleavy thinks. imo dunleavy will not betray Jimmy but if he does for Giannis then yay, i can’t complain lol
I appreciate that Dunleavy gave you such unfettered access to his thought process
I mean none of us know, we are all armchair analyzing, but I provided some real examples of Dunleavy doing Butler favors in the past, and made a prediction based off of that. If you have any counterexamples, please share 🤷♂️
You realize Jimmy is out for half the season next year at 37 and then still having to ramp up after that?
Gsw might not even be a playoff team if curry or Giannis have injury issues next season
So what? With steph+giannis, Jimmy just has to be the 3rd option.
And with or without giannis, GSW isn’t doing anything if Steph is injured anyways.
He’s going to be 37 years old making $57m next year. His ass would’ve been gone if they’re able to trade him.
And who gave him that contract?
You might not have heard about his acl…
the cope is insane lmao
if thats a factor then just say goodbye to a giannis trade cuz he was about to start fighting MDJ his rookie year lol
Did anyone read the article?
A couple days after the incident, with his Bulls headed to a second-round showdown against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dunleavy — who was not suspended by the league for his shot to Carter-Williams — said he held no problems with Antetokounmpo and wished him well in the future. “I got no issues with the guy,” Dunleavy said in May 2015. “Nice kid, young kid, going to be a really good player. Doesn’t change my feeling on wanting to get over to Mykonos.”
I thought he had a war chest that they were ready to unload? You telling me a broken Jimmy isnt in the war chest? LMAO
I get what you are saying… The initial decision to bring Jimmy in and extend him was with that understanding/promise. As a GM, hitching your wagon to Jimmy means you have to stick with him. So regardless of the injury, Jimmy wasn’t going anywhere, any time soon.
