While I certainly agree, they have a weird mix of more veteran players and young talent. They aren’t sure if they want to compete for a playoff spot or hit the lottery and it looked like they are more going to build towards the future but they trade a young shooter for future draft picks, they already have a young core of players. That is usually the move of a team looking to bottom out who doesn’t have a young core of guys. They only have 7 players under contract next year if they dont pick up team options or guarantee non guaranteed money and he was on a cheap deal.

This mostly works if you have a ton of roster spots and are willing to just sift through the chattle year after year.

If you cant really do that but have a ton of seconds then usually you just end up trading half decent seconds for… a future second and kick the can down the road.

Wondering why the Hawks traded Vit for only 2 second round picks and a salary dump (Reath had a season-ending surgery not so long ago due to a strees fracture, expiring contract).

The Hawks had two superb shooters - Luke Kennard and Vit, and they gave up Vit, which had a superb contract for his contribution.

We need a backup center (Timelord is injury prone, Yang isn’t fully ready to play constantly in the NBA).

I hope the Hawks think of a big move. Otherwise, they gave up quite an asset in future trade talks.

Edit: It happened just one year after the Luka-AD trade, coincidence? I think not!

The only real difference in the contract is $100K this year, and Vit's $250K not fully gauranteed amount before opening day. So if they were going to waive him regardless, and they got some 2rps out of it, that’s the value over saving $350K.
