The amount of weeping and wailing going on in the Pacers sub right now, about ending January with a 48.1% chance at a top-4 pick rather than the 52.1% chance at a top-4 pick they had a month ago, is phenomenal.

Reminding people about the year they went into the draft lottery seventh and came out with a pick as high as they ever made (Rik Smits at #2) does not faze them.

The Pacers only recently broke a thirty-plus-year streak of home winning records, because there’s so much good basketball to watch in Indiana that you can’t sell tickets to a losing team around here.

Ownership is keenly aware that putting a home team into the Fieldhouse that isn’t visibly striving to win is fanbase suicide. It took a decade to get back to normal operations after The Malice and subsequent mass-suspension events on the roster, the organization is simply not going there ever again.

Hell, the Pacers didn’t really sell out for the tank in a down year just recently with Wembanyama on the board. And nobody’s gonna walk onstage with Adam Silver this year that will singlehandedly lift a team past Wemby any time soon.

I have no idea why people think the Pacers might be tanking this year. This year just, y’know, has issues.
