Interestingly enough, Kareem’s numbers held steady in the mid 20’s and slowly tapered off during the decade. Whilst a young Bird matched his numbers and slowly ramped up in the same time period.

There’s something incredibly poetic about it really. Him passing the torch to Magic is a known quantity, but there’s something interesting about Bird becoming a big time scoring threat while Kareem began to slow down.

Instead of separating by decades (2000, 2010, etc), take any given year and calculate who the highest scorer was for the 10 years prior. So if you look at 2007, you would check 1997-2007

instead of locking our 10-year periods to the years —X0 to —X9 (for example 80-89, 90-99) we just take each period of 10 years and look at that (ex 84-93, 02-11, etc). this would necessarily mean, for example, that if someone was the best scorer over, say, a 12-year period, then they would (most likely) be the best scorer over three separate 10-year periods starting 1 year apart.

Luka’s injury concern is a bit overblown.

Last season was the only season that he failed to play at least 80% of the games.

Since the ²⁰¹⁹⁄₂₀₂₀ season (start of the time frame) SGA played 427 games and Luka played 417 games (while like Lakers have 2 more games in hand this season too).

So Luka basically missed 8 more games

Shai has 1100+ more points than Luka since 2022-23 season so it’s entirely possible he passes him before 2030.

If the next 3 years go the same as the past 3 years he passes him pretty easily.

Thats mostly due to luka being injured and only played 50 games last season.

Luka had more points in ²²⁄₂₃ and ²³⁄₂₄.

This season OKC played 2 more games than the lakers and Luka averages slightly higher ppg than SGA, if both stay relatively healthy until the end of the season their gap might be less than 100.

SGA only played 35 and 56 games in 2021 and 2022 but thoese years were cut off from your time frame.

The entire span (from ²⁰¹⁹⁄₂₀₂₀), luka only missed like 8 more games
