Getting the Edgecomb pick was a pretty big break. Pick was top 6 protected or else it went to OKC. They were at 5 before the lottery. Dallas and the Spurs jump them to #1 and #2, which would have put them at 7 and they lose their pick. Then they jump to #3, not only keeping the pick but moving up. That alone saved their next … 3 seasons with Maxey trying to hold things together while Embiid and PG take up more than $100m of their salary cap each year and hardly play.
